Young Navigator Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 DacidBro has to talk about Catherine and persona, so I need to grab LK and some others. If you need someone to talk Persona, I'd be down.
mAc Chaos Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 I have a request. Whenever you finish all the episodes can they get added into the beginner mode section of the site? It would probably be helpful for new anime players or for people like myself who still lack knowledge about things in general. I like the 1st 3 episodes alot since it answered alot of questions I never got to ask tournament players irl at my first offline tournament. Wut. How can YOU lack knowledge. :P
Ayashii Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Wut. How can YOU lack knowledge. :P Because he's free. That would probably be best, most of this stuff is basic and important in the normal sense anyhow.
Dreiko Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 I'm up for it as always. I'm experiencing some computer instability so while I should be fine for the show I can't 100% guarantee it so maybe having a backup just in case would be a good idea.
Star-Demon Posted May 12, 2013 Author Posted May 12, 2013 Things on the table so far for the advanced topics episode: Okizeme, Neutral (MORE), Mixups, SITUATIONS, *Utilizing* Frame data. As for the beginner mode section: I highly doubt the DL mods will want anything with my name attached to it as a website feature. Maybe someday they'll be persuaded, but LOL. I also better get my BB award. :D
E3vE3 WAZ HEA Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 I also better get my BB award. :D Well then we see his goal guys :3 Also do you ever think of getting beginners on the show to raise there thoughts on the game. you know have them speak out about there exp and what they would like to do to get better, that way you can get more ideas for the show. It's one thing to ask questions, it's another to have them speak out so people can pinpoint things exactly.

It's one thing to ask questions, it's another to have them speak out so people can pinpoint things exactly. Of course - I'd love to have some episodes where "low tier" players can come on and chat about the game and vets can interact with them via chat, and vice versa. The important part is the show acts as a positive and structured venue for my two main audiences. The reason I haven't been able to do something like that is because I wanted the introductory and roadmap episodes to cover a solid foundation before opening up the show. Newer players will be able to see what I expect of all of my guests and have some basic ideas down. The roadmap episodes are almost done. There's three remaining (that includes this week's) and after that you'll see the show really open up to a wider set of guests and topics. What would beginners want to talk about at length, though? That's tricky. A lot of my conversations at school don't take very long, and I am afraid I'd have to stop having themes each episode.
Lunar_Divider Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 I think you should talk about Digital Watches' article and on the relevancy of the terms we use.
Star-Demon Posted May 12, 2013 Author Posted May 12, 2013 I wouldn't have much to say about it on a show that I couldn't just put in writing. We've already talked about misconceptions with some terms (footsies, poking, SETPLAYWTFISIT) and spending a show reviewing terms as opposed to discussing the ideas seems boring. At the end of the day, I want people to walk away with something to go out and do or have their minds very clear about what something is and how they use it. So far I've gotten good results on that. As for Digital Watches article? A little too verbose for me - but he wants incredibly concise definitions, and it requires using paragraphs and paragraphs of words to qualify things. Not my taste academically, but he's trying to help and be clear. What I'd like to do is take the really empty terms and either dispose of them or make them meaningful to someone playing BlazBlue and trying ot push buttons to do that thing.
Dreiko Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Beginners don't have to be complete newbies. They can just be lower level players or even intermediate. As for what to talk about, just talk about what you normally would and see what they'll say! That's I think the point. If they don't have anything to say we can simplify something or just have a lot of backup questions or something. We can make it a general progression/motivation/how it feels to be bad and wanna become good style episode or something. There can be people who have become good and people who are not quite there yet but wish to be and there can be dialogue among them and the questions could facilitate that more.

I can agree with this, I'm still a flunkie, but it doesn't mean I don't understand terms like Rushdown, Zoning, Okizeme, Tk'ing, etc. I also know the general playstyles of each character, and what their general overall weakpoints are. Basically what I'm saying is, just because someone lacks skill or experience in actual combat, doesn't mean that they are unable to even discuss principles like the one's I listed above, or even the general strategy of characters, or other advanced strategies. It's actually easier to learn about them in theory then to execute them. So as long as People know what their talking about, your not a complete Novice. It means you managed to make a small step to being a decent player.
Star-Demon Posted May 16, 2013 Author Posted May 16, 2013 I can't seem to find the right people this week - I might change the show's topic so we can have some fun. Besides, I haven't had as much time to talk to people to develop the episode.
Dreiko Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Well, whichever topic we do it'll be awesome. No need to sweat it. Better late and good.
Airk Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Something that might be interesting might be a "game clinic" sort of setup, where you get 1-2 "less awesome" players and 2 experienced vets, and have them...view matches and discuss? Play matches and then watch and discuss? Generally have each of the less experienced players get 'analyzed' by the others (and if there are two 'less experienced' players, let the one who's not under the microscope chime in too.). You might want to do some pre-screening or something though, because if you get two people with boring problems ("You just need to practice your combos and hitconfirms") then not much comes out of it, but if you can get into slightly more "meaty" type stuff - "You keep giving up your oki - you can't respect his DP that much!" or "You keep losing at neutral because you're always doing X after Y" then it might be helpful and interesting. Or then again it might not. What do I know?
Dreiko Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Lol wild candy, you can't hide from my ninja senses. You can just say you had a change of plans/heart, no need to delete the post. :P
Star-Demon Posted May 17, 2013 Author Posted May 17, 2013 There will probably be no show tonight. I have no guests or material. My PVR has died, I'm incredibly upset, very frustrated, and I have nothing good to contribute or moderate. I'd rather do no show then a bad one or one where I'm just going to go off on someone. I'll wait until next week. I'm sorry to break schedule.
Dreiko Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Ah, alright, sucks man. I'll be away for 2 weeks so I guess I'll miss the next one.
Star-Demon Posted May 22, 2013 Author Posted May 22, 2013 Try number 2: Friday? Advanced topics? Anyone available?
mAc Chaos Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 He said he had trouble finding people. All he has to do is coordinate via Twitter, and someone else can just post the video in the thread if he wants to keep going.
Guardian Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 I'll be free tonight after 9pm, though I'm not sure anyone would just want to hear me squabble about Relius
Star-Demon Posted May 29, 2013 Author Posted May 29, 2013 Can't get people this week due to UMAD. Maybe do something casual? What can we do that's fun but develops us?
Star-Demon Posted May 31, 2013 Author Posted May 31, 2013 Okay - It's friday. if Tournament wins shows up: We do advanced topics. If not: Relaxed discussion? Wanna talk about getting better? Problems in your game?
mAc Chaos Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 I can't really think of anything off the top of my head. This is what makes running shows hard. Think about what YOU want to talk about first.
Star-Demon Posted June 20, 2013 Author Posted June 20, 2013 (edited) I will definitely try to get this series back on track but I have a few other problems to attend to before I start providing a lot more content to the community: For those of you looking to get an LGP: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmIA2pPwGj4 I hope that my phone call to AverMedia is helpful, although I think the reason they are being so quiet and private on the support forums is that their product is either fundamentally flawed or too costly to replace for such a large base of people. There seems to be no solution other than replacement, which also doesn't promise anything to users other than the prospect of trying to get their money back. Edited June 20, 2013 by Star-Demon
