Uh, what? Not having mixups means you can't win. If you can't get your opponent to block wrong, how are you supposed to hit them? If you give a character bad mixups you essentially get a bad character. Why was CT Rachel good? j.2C and 2B. Why is Naoto bad despite being able to OHKO the whole cast? Bad mixups. The same thing is seen in SF4 with a few characters. I'm really missing something here. Could someone explain this to me?

Let me claify, some characters should be better at mix-up than others. I didn't mean there should be characters with no mix-ups. I agree that is a problem.

New Guilty Gear -> How can they attract new players without ruining the game? -> Execution discussion

If you are going to stick strictly to whatever we have now then you might as well just play the trailer 200 times and leave it at that.

Posted

But the discussion has become circular; and no one's actually offer much in the ways of proposed solutions, just complaining on the grounds of nothing and trying to abate said premature complaints.

Either way, a whole lot of nothing is coming out. Just saying.

execution is what makes guilty gear stand out from most of the fighting game crowd. it's also what makes the game satisfying to play, even certain easy characters have strict timing things (GF frc/WT cheese with sol etc)

but it is one of the many things keep new players out... honestly, it's really hard to make GG a hit among most crowds here in the west because of its anime-esque appearance and no notable characters that people can instantly recognize. there should be some sort of crossover game so GG can get some good exposure!

i don't want them to nerf execution for favor of new players,(or even that easy combo/special shit in persona) but they might do so to get more people to play. so many gaming companies stooping to dumbing their game down to appeal to a broader audience, it's quite ridiculous. leaves us cult fans aggravated with the final product, but i'm very glad there is even another GG coming out. we need to show our support regardless

Execution isn't waht makes GG stand out, it's complexity. Well, i guess it does sorta have a reputation for high execution, but lowering the execution barrier without lowering the complexity of the game is a good thing.

guess i should of said it's what makes it satisfying for me to play.

complexity is fine, i doubt the core mechanics from GG will drastically change (atleast guessing from what i could see from the trailer)

but anytime i talk to a friend who is a fighting game enthusiast i usually attempt to do the GG conversion. but difficulty is a barrier i can't help people with

because they just outright usually refuse to delve into the game, and honestly i can't blame them. putting 1-2 years into a game to start getting decent at the game without outside help is a bit steep

especially with my friends who can't get over the concept that without similar training they won't have a chance in hell in beating me. i try my best to go easy, but in guilty gear going easy is akin to just making silly mistakes.

it's pretty noticeable and when they do figure out im throwing they get even more turned off etc

The GG cast is too strong to be crossed over with other fighters. Primarily because the cast mostly has strengths and no real weaknesses.

May 5, 2013 Torrance, CA – Aksys Games is pleased to announce that it will be attending E3 2013, where we will officially reveal two exciting new titles at our meeting space in the Los Angeles Convention Center!

http://www.aksysgames.com/2013/05/22/aksys-games-will-be-at-e3-2013-come-and-visit/

I should note that Aksys has never attended E3 with the other big dog companies before, soo this has to be big...guilty gear big.

peeps already speculating it's GG Xrd on their forums.

now speculate away

I'm finding it being Xrd to be incredibly doubtful; it's more likely their two unannounced titles are BBCP and Fate/Extra CCC.

I'd be more than happy to be wrong, though.

Also, LOL at calling E3 big. E3 hasn't been all that relevant for years.

Off course, Aksys is more than just Arc and for all we know, neither of the two new titles mentioned could be GGXrd. That said, if it is Xrd, it could lend more credence to the theory that Arc may be trying pay more attention to the US market now.

Announcing a publishing contract for a game that's still in pre alpha and not even confirmed for consoles isn't going to happen. Like d3v said they have ties with more companies than ASW now-a-days.

HOLY CRAP YES! I'll give a detailed write-up if that's the case. If it's not GG, maybe we'll get Zero Escape 3. They do mention mobile, and the director for that series did mention an interest in that sort of release...

:yaaay: :yaaay: :yaaay:

E3 this year has the potential to be really good.

I think there's a very high possibility that GG Xrd will be R# - based. (I mean sol's dustloop, the old grand viper, ky's greed sever -> float, VP no LJ)

I get this feeling too, which is a smart choice imo, but there's not much conclusive evidence.

It'd be nice to get a translation, but from what I've read by Google Translate, it just seems to be promotional spiel, talking about how he feels and his approach regarding the visual style. I presume he's talking about looking at the game systems again (especially the "basics"), with a view to refresh/change them, but then again every Japanese developer says that when they're making a sequel. Not much else that I can see.

Has anybody noticed the crater when sol's clashing with ky in the PV?

(IMO that must be some cool effect but...)

I assume the crater is from wild throw or sol's new dust.

Shouldn't we be looking for ArcSys USA to be at E3, not AkSys? shrug

We've been burned by a lot of recent fighting games, but I think it's ok to optimistic about Xrd.

Curious, how do you know it's been in development for 5 years?

Friend who was at a conference and spoke with Ishiwatari's assistant.

Daisuke it's talking about the game (very little) in Famitsu. http://www.famitsu.com/cominy/?m=pc&a=page_fh_diary&target_c_diary_id=60335

本作は『GUILTY GEAR 2 OVERTURE』以降6年振りの完全新作です。

This work is a completely new six-year swing "GUILTY GEAR 2 OVERTURE"

About Aksys, I really doubt they will go to E3 (a lot of money), to present Xrd or CP, after all this games are niche games. It's probably something not related to ASW.

It's a general speak when he reflect on what to do to create something new in approching a new GG

Mostly, starting again from basic and look again at the past, and putting a great enphasis on how to create something new.

The only concrete mention was to the graphic, that passed to 3D to create a great visual impact, as it was originally done in hi res sprites

Nothing else, it just confirm (in a speculative way) what we have seen and discussed about, a return to the origins and a semplification from the adding that we had in all the chapter after #R (that was the last chapter he worked in)

If you're intrested I can translate it later, but probably someone else will do it before me...

Indeed there are high expectation for the game, but well, it IS a new GG... (after 7 years of waiting)
