AX Xrd shirts are all sold out at the point. There were only two XXLs in stock when I left.

-Dust transition is certainly not that big an adjustment. At first it's definitely jarring but not to a point where it messes up combos

-Wall stick dust followup didn't always come out, but getting it to combo is nothing difficult (sol 5D 6 c.S 5H BB is pretty easy).

-There were three setups, two of which are laggy monitors :(.

-Combo to IK is EASY. Like holy hell. I thought Sol's was going to whiff at first because the opponent was so high.

-RC combos are a little awkward but the delay the introduce into combo timing is pretty minimal.

-YRC is SO FLEXIBLE. Also, they appear to have fixed the "do YRC, get hit before it activates, keep meter". I YRC'd at one point and got hit out of it, but still lost the meter.

-Blitz Shield seriously feels like it has less than a 5 frame active window. There were so many instances I went for it and got nothing. the only time i got a successful BS was on accident.

-Gold Burst YRC x4 for no reason is op tech ban please

-Bedman is WEIRD.

I still have some problems with some mechanics (still need to see if IKs can combo OTG), but i'm pretty fucking excited for console release.

And yes, we had people walk by and get blown away, "THAT'S 3D HOLY SHIT"

Yeah it was only the second day when I got my shirts and they told me they were already running low. I'm sure they weren't expecting the kind of welcoming they got, that's for sure. Didn't ask them if they would have more for upcoming events though.

This definitely happened to me many times. Made me very sad.

I asked.  The shirts are supposed to be an "AX Exclusive" thing.  They might reprint more later, but it's very unlikely.  Since XL was sold out I wound up buying L after hearing that.

Well, IMO stuffing YRC on activate SHOULD make you lose meter.  Good shit.  Also, sucks about the shirts.  I already made my own Xrd shirt for fun when I was printing Frosty Faustings VI last year but the ones they are selling sound nicer.  Oh well!  Glad you guys like the game so far.

Keep in mind, although they are using 3D models, they are not being animated in real-time, they are pre-rendered and superimposed like traditional 2D sprites.

Wrong they are being animated in real time.

We have Jun's issue of CG world in my workplace and i checked it out.

they are using Low-poly models with bigger eyes in the actual game play.

and Higher models in the cutscenes of Overdrives, intro, story, etc . . .

I don't think you quite understand what I mean by real-time, the models in Xrd are all pre-rendered and the animations are rigged to act in a specific manner every time. In fact, the example you linked [which is really just an example to show that they are indeed using 3D models, still amazing] just goes to further prove my point; when Sol walks back his ponytail flows forward, but the minute he stops it warps back to position without flowing back. Also Ky's clothes flow in a set pattern, to always 1 one flow pattern, it will never deviate from that course.

Taking a look at SF4, Decapre's braids aren't constricted, they follow their own movements based off the physics engine and move independently of the rest of the model. Sagat's shorts are the same way, although they puff out around his body, the leggings still move and flow in accordance to the physics engine, not the model itself. This is because SF4's models are rendered in real time, which is why clipping issues can occur.

Granted, there is nothing wrong with the way Xrd is rigged, it looks amazing and makes the clipping issue [on a model's self] pretty much non-existent, and I have no qualms about that. However doing the alternate costumes became that much more labor with the use of 2 poly count sets.

If that's the case then I would much rather them focus on just adding more characters and not worry about alternate costumes.  Anything that delays more characters is not good.  Extra costumes really are not necessary and I would be fine with them just adding more colors.

Uh, that's not what prerendered means. The stuff in Xrd is rendered in real time, it's not just a picture that's been rendered beforehand on more powerful hardware and then the resultant image is displayed on screen.

Though the engine does render the characters separately and then flattens them into sprites which is what it used for most of gameplay to make it feel authentic. The lack of clipping is because of this process. The characters on the playfield are actually sprites most of the time. The sprites are just generated on the fly.

The lack of flow in the ponytail is not prerendering. Pre-rigging might maybe be a more correct expression. A lot of the snappiness is simply the lack of tweening (short for inbetweening) which means generating the frames inbetween keyframes automatically. GG doesn't do that and just shows the keyframes because it looks more like hand-drawn animation. They've also animated a lot of stuff by hand, like Ky's cape and probably his hair too. But, again, animating by hand, not prerendering.

-Bedman is WEIRD.

Can you explain this please? I mean, I'm planning to sub him in this game after all, anything you can provide is appreciated.

Yeah I saw the texture maps.

They are just plain colors.

Anyone who who can use Photoshop (even ms paint) can make more colors.

You guys give too much importance to the tier list. In GG every chara can win, and tier list may affect only high level play. So, people can still win with pot, and I-no is still a strong chara

That is a given for the past 12 years. This is GG and tiers do not make chars go extinct in competitive play, but as a vet this is a striking departure to what Arcsys has been feeding us since XX. Just because you can win with said character doesnt mean you wont go grey and pull your hair out doing it.

If they wanted to start from scratch with this game, it should have been across the board because some characters really just got it too good with all of the tools. (Fuck you SIdewinder)

I've played some bedman in the arcade and I also found him really weird. It's mainly his mobility which feels strange. His eight way double jump/airdash and his guard point forward dash are initially extremely weird, I'm sure with more play it'll feel normal, it's just nothing like any other character in gg.

Just chiming in with the rest of the people who went to AX to say this game looks and feels fabulous. (Just like this sick GG shirt they were selling, mmmm). One game as Ky aside, I spent the whole time playing Ramlethal and I must say she's a lot more intuitive than I thought, learning her many gatlings aside, sword management is easy and she feels really strong even at day 1 levels

The game's visuals really are impactful though. The people I was with at AX dont even play fighters like that but this one guy I went with seriously wants to play the game just because he thinks that camera twirl at the end of a match looks "so fuckin cool" and another guy is gonna get it because "shit looks so good its gotta be sorcery"

Game's definitely gonna rake in that new blood, question is if we can keep it around

So yeah you guys are gonna like this when it hits EVO, I never played GG at a high level so I cant tell you if its a downgrade or whatever but its fun fsure

I just want to ask how does this game SOUND? Is it strong and impactful when you hit someone?
Posted

It's not a double airdash. You hit 8 in the air, then pick a direction to dash in. if you don't press anything after 8, you simply go up.

Some of Bedman's normals are a little odd, like 2H changing its distance based on whether you hit 1 or 3, and 5H being a crossup normal: it just phases through the opponent. His mobility, as mentioned, is also odd with his long steps and awkward air movement. I'm not even sure he can jump cancel his air normals, or if he can I didn't figure out how it works in the one game I played as him.

I couldn't hear anything when I played. Way too much noise around the setups.

Uh yeah what guy above me said

I was struggling to make out the music but i mean the sound effects are all the same old GG sound effects so if you liked those, then I guess so?

you

youre that sol player i tagged out of vv earlier today arent you

if so ggs again looking forward to rematch when game hits

if not woops ignore me

Posted

Maybe. There were a lot of Sol players and I probably got hit out of VV a lot considering its hitbox is a lot smaller. Of course I had it clash at least once and I was at the Xrd booth for almost twelve hours so maybe?

Who did you play?

Posted

Well if the sound effects sound the same im okay. Kinda reminds me of how Sega AM2 used the sounds from VF2 cuz they are still godlike. the impact of noises is another thing I love about gg so im happy they are keeping it
