Layer Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 It has been reported several times that the PS3 version runs just as well as the PS4 version, just in 720p. People said they didn't even know they were playing the PS3 version until it was pointed out to them. We should make like a "Frequently Asked Questions" in the first post or something.
D.R.F. Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 THE PS3 VERSION IS THE ARCADE PORT, RUNNING AT 60FPS WITH 720P RESOLUTION.

No one should take this for granted until they played the actual PS3 version themselves. False advertising is incredibly common amongst developers. Especially japanese ones (most recently Namco pulled such a stunt again). I will probably not import the game either prior to having evidence that it indeed runs stable. The publisher saying that everything is fine really doesn't convince me.
ninjay Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 No worthy source, which is why I'm asking. I cannot see any official sites that specify PS3s frame rate. http://www.dualshockers.com/2014/09/20/guilty-gear-xrd-sign-on-ps4-runs-at-very-stable-60-fps-in-1080p-looks-better-than-the-arcade-version/ Here is the closest thing I could find.

I'm willing to give ElvenShadow the benefit of the doubt since he's been playing it for nearly a year now and would know better than any of us.

Care to explain how he got his hands on a PS3 copy of the game that he uses in his very own Playstation 3 when its going to be officially released in december 2014? Let me guess, you talk about the arcade version that is supposed to be the PS3 version according to the developer, right? As I said, the person who sells you something isn't the most trustworthy source since he has an interest in making money. So no, evidence that it will run at 60FPS at all times doesn't exist. It will as soon as the game got released in Japan though (assuming that what they said is true).

He saw it played at an event it was being demonstrated at (TGS, maybe?). I'm not sure if it's still up, but there was a video of people playing it, and you could hear his surprise at the end when he was told he was seeing the PS3 version.

nyyyyy Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 I am just gonna put this out there. Believe me, I would be more than happy if what they say is true. All I am saying is that a developer claiming that his product runs well isn't anything new. And just because it says that a game is being played on a PS3, isn't evidence that this actually is the case.I will remain skeptical as long as people didn't have the chance to put the disc of the retail version into their own Playstation and can confirm that it indeed runs well.
TeeJay Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 I understand the skepticism, but at the same time, I don't recall Arksys giving us that type of history plus crossplay would make absolutely no sense as a developer with one version working incorrectly. That'll be damning to your own playing community, especially since they seem to be putting a ton of resources for the success of this game specifically. I'm pretty sure Japan will have a huge PS3 bias, at least at first. Other the other hand, all of those negative things are still possible. In the end, you can't do anything but wait and see I guess.
Anne Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Alright, I talked about PS3 vs PS4 for the sake of tournaments and things blah blah. As of right now everything that's needed to be said regarding PS3 vs PS4 has been said so many times, it's not worth going over again at this time. This is not the board for that anyways, as we focus on the competitive aspect of the games and will play on whichever platform we find competitively viable.

So why would talking about what platforms might or might not be competitively viable not be relevant to this board? Especially when there's still massive bother over whether sticks will work on each platform and all that (and there's definitely a lot of users on this board who'd care about that sort of thing). While I'm convinced that I won't need to get a PS4 in order to play a "proper" version of Xrd, it's still good to make sure that that's still the case.
TeeJay Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 ^^I guess it's just that we have no "real" news at the moment so it's wait and see for everyone.
Mumm-Ra Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 This is not the board for that anyways, as we focus on the competitive aspect of the games and will play on whichever platform we find competitively viable. How are we supposed to find out which is the most "competitive" platform unless we talk about it? Granted, the game hasn't released yet, but still, it's not like conjectures can't be made with the info we have at the moment. I believe that Dustloop can come up with it's own stuff, not just take everything from everyone else.

Unless you've taken an Xrd disc and put it in your PS3 there isn't anything else to go on besides what ElvenShadow has told us and anything we get from the press. If there's nothing to add on a subject that just gets ran in circles and fills the thread with the same garbage endlessy, maybe you don't need to keep going on about it?
Layer Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Can't blame people for speculating, part of the fun I say, but your point is valid. Or for asking the rudimentary questions. No one's gonna dig through 400 pages of a thread to see if their question was already answered. Though I'm now starting to strongly considering making a post in the FAQ Thread with answers for the most common questions.

Tenj|n Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 I also tried out both PS3 and PS4 versions, at TGS and GameStart. I can't feel any significant difference other than graphics.
ElvenShadow Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Just to clear things up, I did not actually PLAY the PS3 version at TGS but I recorded other people playing it and did not realize it was even the PS3 version until it was pointed out to me at the end of the match that I recorded. Either way, I think the skeptics are worrying over nothing. There's no reason to think that the PS3 will not be able to run the game as arcade perfect at 60 frames per second.
ChexGuy Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 is the thing about no negative edge true? (ohey something for that FAQ thing)
Pichy Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Negative Edge is what's used to control Mini Eddie.
9:02 PM Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Re: two pages ago, we would all be better off if we were to admit that for any of the more technical characters in AC (I-no, Bridget, Eddie, Baiken, etc.) you can probably count on one hand the number of people in the English speaking community who can do their real stuff in tournament play. There are like three people in this thread that could lodge a legitimate complaint about the game being less execution heavy, and none of them are the ones doing so. For literally EVERYONE ELSE (myself included) the leniency of YRC timing and the reduced importance of character weight on combo timing/route will result in an improvement in game play.
Destin Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 I think those of us who could do the execution, and liked it, are quite excited about the possibility of a newer generation of people playing.

You're trying to overwrite peoples opinions with your own. That simply doesn't work. If someone says that doing hard stuff is what he enjoys most, saying that he's wrong (which is basically what you're doing) is nothing else but pants on head retarded. I am pretty sure that there are people who like to do hard stuff for the sake of it being hard. Which automatically means that these changes will not improve the game for them. So no, it's not literally everyone else who will have a better time.

So no, it's not literally everyone else who will have a better time. Thats not what he was saying, improvement in gameplay means they will use the character better. Like he said, many of the more complex characters in Guilty Gear are not used at the peak of efficiency by a lot of Americans due to their complex nature. For example, many people here said they enjoyed using I-no , many people also said they could not consistently do a lot of things with her. There was nothing about an enjoyment factor in that statement. Now, I will agree some people enjoy learning these complex characters, but for like 95% of Americans this increase in accessibility is a good thing. Besides, I haven't done my homework but isn't Zato a fairly hard character to use properly in this iteration? If they REALLY feel like they need to prove they can play complex characters, there ya go. Anyways can we move past this?
