All knowing frame delay is gonna do is make you stop playing online quicker. It looks like variable frame delay, so that plus actually knowing the delay means good players will probably drop netplay before the end of the first week, since they can see just how salty to be at netplay.

More information is always better than less information.

I can actually list a few examples when that's not the case, though I'm not sure if knowing delay is one of them.

Well I'm certain that knowing delay is actually invaluable information. Especially knowing in real time where you can actually adjust your timings in consequence.

I doubt that will be the case

I'm trying to tell the difference between the "Quality" and "Speed" mode... Maybe they were on a stage that's not affected by it much...

Humans can't adjust by afew frames. 1 frame is about 16 ms @ 60 FPS.

The delay isn't going to be in real time. It will either be at a single point in time or an average.

It's awful information for the health of US netplay, tbh, because the game is going to have netplay tailored for JP players on JP net. By extension, it'll be shit for US play. This has always been the case, but actually knowing -how- shit makes it that much easier to blame the lag (pretty rightfully) and turn off your PS3, and the migration of players off PSN to their local scene will happen that much faster.

I don't think it's a bad thing to accelerate a process that's going to happen anyways, but a bunch of netplayers are going to find themselves SOL for decent competition. It just looks like the same ArcSys netcode as always, and it's always been trash and incapable of handling spikes and packet drops. This doesn't give me much hope for the online, since now that you can visually confirm the delay just went from 3 to 7 over some dropped packets, it's going to be that much harder to care, and it was already pretty hard.

I dont want to rain on your parade but US net play is horrible due to physics. No netcode in the world will make 100ms an enjoyable experience. So you are somewhat forced to play people from your area and hope that there are enough to fill a lobby. If you're unlucky and live in a state with a low population density youre fucked. This has always been the case. It's one of the reasons why League of Legends has so much success in the US. Its a competitive title that can be played with 100ms latency. Playing east to west coast is a complete chore, even with something like GGPO. The same applies for north east to south east. The US simply is a shitty country for online play due to its sheer size. Nothing a developer can do about it unless you find a way to speed up the way data is send from A to B. Spoiler Alert: will mostly not be discovered for another decade.

Yes, the netcode will be tailored for japanese people, and by default also for europeans (and here I am, hoping that europeans will play it so I wont end up being alone). Its the logical thing to do.

There is also the Hori Fighting commander 4 which is compatible with the PS4.

Thanks man, I had the HFC3, a little clunky but I think I can make it work. Worked pretty nicely for Injustice, at least.

I bet if you do a ping test it will be close to 16 ms, so your instantly 1 frame delayed before you have even started.

Unless you can kick everyone else off the internet or afford your own backbone cable, traffic is always going to change. Its not ASW netcode per say.

How do you propose they deal with lost packets? There's 2 choices: error correction code or resend. I'll argue resend will be faster, especially if the computer can't work out the error it will ask for the packet to be sent again anyway.

The best we could do is have 100% fibre optic connections around the world and I still think there would be some delay.

For lagless online you need to find something in the universe faster than light that you can manipulate. Then you will be the greatest scientist/engineer of all time.

If only ASW used the magic that is GGPO.

I would of thought ASW implement a similar thing to the virtual matches, seems like the most logical way to do it.

Well, as a Brit you shouldn't have a problem with online play to begin with. Unless your ISP is abysmal you will end up with 20-45ms, no matter who you play. Whether he's Swedish, German, Russian or Italian. 2-3 frames delay are fine, especially if the netcode works towards it. The same applies for Japan. Americans simply are unlucky in that regard unless you live in populated areas like New York. That's how it is and it won't change.

Offline play is always favourable, but for some of us online play is a reasonable alternative.

Netplay gonna netplay. Infrastructure gonna infrastructure. All that jazz :v

I actually like seeing delay. I play doujin PC stuff and like GGPO and finding out the delay and setting it and knowing a solid number to look for is good stuff. Xrd just flat tells you the number, which is miles better than the 1-4 bar system. Like this is the opposite of a problem, any reasonable person already knows how this works.

Don't worry about it, really. You guys got a day, get hype.

So Speed Mode is basically a bit less massive effects.

Timing has nothing to do with it -- videos are never in sync.

Yeah what I figured would happen after BB. We all knew it was particle effects when you could pick snow town and throw deadspike and frame drops happen.

Thank you. This negativity is making me depressed.

The background isnt even less detailed as far as I can tell from that low resolution picture. If that's all we need to put up with to assure stable 60fps, 100% of the time, then I am more than happy.

I feel like this has already been brought up, but does Xrd use Guts AND a non equal health bar (like BB has) or is it just Guts?

Yea. Also BB has a non-equal health bar?
