XDest Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Thank god they did something to Tao. The changes seem fair to me. Probably still high tier.
XXXDC Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Litchi changes don't really seem very severe to me? How big a deal is the 4B thing? Because if the only nerfs she's getting is to that move, I don't see her ending up in line with the rest of the cast unless that was a way more important combo part than I thought it was. Eh? 4B is pretty much her "everything" in CP, but i'm ok with it. I guess people will figure out something new with her and she'll end up mid/mid-high.
TekkamanArk Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 I'm so sad about Mori wanting Blazblue to go to models like Xrd. I already loathe GG going to models, BB going too would be just too much. Sprites >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> models, I don't give a damn how good the models are.

To be fair though I think everyone saw this coming from the moment Xrd was announced.
TD Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 yes it includes the first hit and always has. oh wow. l really didn't know that. litchi's 4b being nerfed does change her overall combos radically. she'll probably lose some damage from certain combos, and new combo routes are almost a must. she should be alright as she has an easier time hitting the foe than others after knocking them down. still a very solid char overall, everyone knows she won't tumble down the tiers too much from this (but it does hurt).
TekkamanArk Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 To be fair though I think everyone saw this coming from the moment Xrd was announced. I saw it coming, but if sprites in fighters go away, i'm just done. Just 100% done. Models ruined SF4, ruined Marvel, the 3D KOF games aren't as good, etc. I'm not even going to bother playing fighters anymore if ALL of them will be models now.
Appledash- Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 UNiB? At least ASW seems hell bent on making their models as reminiscent of sprites as possible. :P Sent from my RM-917_nam_usa_100 using Tapatalk

And, even then, is UNIB the last hoorah before we enter a world of only 3D models in fighters? Everything will be too similar.
Putin Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 I'm so sad about Mori wanting Blazblue to go to models like Xrd Source?
TekkamanArk Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Source? http://shoryuken.com/2014/03/01/arc-system-works-toshimichi-mori-says-he-wants-to-bring-blazblue-to-playstation-4/ "Mori also stated that, given the chance, he would like to see BlazBlue given the same graphical update that ArcSys used in Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-."
Kurushii Posted March 2, 2014 Author Posted March 2, 2014 It's your choice for why you play the game but in a business standpoint sprites cost a lot more to develop at high resolutions than models. Capcom can barely stay a float lately. ASW is a smaller company than them even though they have been doing very well for themselves this last generation. Do you honestly think ASW has the money to do next gen sprite work for the entire BB cast? Their options in higher resolutions would be to upscale or remake. Their sprites aren't vectors or at a higher scale like Skullgirls. It really was bound to happen eventually. "Everything will be too similar" I don't see what you see. Every 3D fighting game out looks different. Model design, color palette, shading, lighting, etc. I rather see BB go the route GG did. Less development time and cost in the long run.
TekkamanArk Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 I understand the business aspect of it, as it costs less to make models than sprites, and they are easier to make, which results in a faster turnaround. To me though, that also dramatically cheapens the product. For instance, I still want to play Xrd, and it looks cool, I like that it doesn't suffer UE ugliness. That said, i'd be far more excited about the game if it was still sprites, and still had special intros as opposed to a stock animation with maybe a different quote (I at least hope they went that far). On a personal level, I don't mind waiting the extra amount of time for the sprites, and since i'm not a shareholder in ASW, I couldn't care less what their development costs are.

Like, seriously, this is the most ridiculous post I've read all day. Models ruined Marvel? No, that whole series is just kusoge. The 3D KOF games aren't as good? That's just SNK's lack of experience with 3D FGs, nothing to do with using 3D models. If using 3D models while still retaining 2D gameplay and maintaining as close to a 2D look as possible is enough for you to consider quitting FGs, get over yourself. Especially with the points Kurushii made, you're just coming off as yet another entitled fanboy who whines because he can't deal with change.
XXXDC Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Entirely agree with redsilversnake. You're just overreacting and being a "sprite fanboy" (No offense) if you seriously consider quitting fighting games because they won't use sprites anymore. Hell i've been playing fighting games for almost 14years and i think Xrd looks awesome (best 2.5D by far). You can't seriously think good'ol sprites look better than that.
TAI-X Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 1990's sprite fanboyism is largely the reason why the Street Fighter EX series and SNK's Hyper Neo Geo 64 hardware were thrown under the bus. These games really didn't deserve to be ignored, and this attitude isn't helping developers in the 2010s any more than it did in the nineties. Mori probably wants the Blazblue series to go 3D so they can finally do the long-rumored GG vs. BB crossover game.

I've been playing fighters since SF2 on SNES, and Fatal Fury on Genesis. And yes, i'll fully admit i'm a sprite fanboy, because they just look better, and have a lot more feeling and character. I can't? Why not? I far prefer the visuals of, say, Accent Core to Xrd. Far, far prefer. Xrd's aren't horrible, and are especially good for UE, but they're still models, and the special intros and outros got sacrificed. Also, the roster dropped like a ton of bricks. 1990's sprite fanboyism is largely the reason why the Street Fighter EX series and SNK's Hyper Neo Geo 64 hardware were thrown under the bus. I liked SF EX, and it's not like there aren't 3D games that I play, I just much prefer 2D sprites. I've never heard of "Hyper Neo Geo 64" though.

TekkamanArk Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Sprites rips will die, that's why he's upset. I've never messed with sprite rips, so i'm not sure what that has to do with anything. Yes it is, and i'm free to have it too.
Lucalibur Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Indeed you are, but you're being a total shit about it and it's not doing your argument any good. Not that you have any argument other than 'I DON'T LIKE IT SO IT SUCKS' to begin with, but hey.
NecroTheReaper Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Saying something is awful because of a visual style change is saying "Zelda: WW sucks cuz its cell shaded". Still a great game even though it lacks the seriousness of the other games. I think that not playing a game because it -looks- different is kinda unfair to the game. Only valid case of this was DMC reboot Dante's looks.
TD Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Seems fun, I wonder what they will implement using this new system. Will they go the various cutscenes route like in xrd? I can imagine rachel doing something fun in her cutscenes now. Hype levels rising.

Sprites >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> models, I don't give a damn how good the models are. Models ruined SF4, ruined Marvel, the 3D KOF games aren't as good, etc. This used to be true before Xrd came out. I would have agreed with you 100% before, but now that i have seen Xrd it is no longer the case. Xrd looks amazing. They perfected making 3D models look exactly like HD 2d sprites. You cant even tell the difference at all unless the camera purposely rotates around the characters. I never thought 3d models would actually look way better than HD 2d sprites of BlazBlue but Xrd just looks better. Sadly the 3D models for most characters in SF4, Marvel and 3D KOF do all look like hot garbage. Now that Arc System Works proved it can be done right, hopefully Capcom copys their perfect method with all thier fighting games in the future. edit: I think its pretty stupid for some of these people to be attacking you or calling you names. I guess deep inside they really care so much that they really dont want you to quit fighting games...... Also Zelda WW didn't suck because it was cell shaded it sucked because they completely ruined link. Nintendo did the same thing to link as Capcom did to Dante. That's why i refused to Play WW or DmC Edited March 2, 2014 by TagerTime
TAI-X Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Only valid case of this was DMC reboot Dante's looks. That still wouldn't be a valid case if that game's problems begun and ended with Dante's transformation into a Tameem Mary Sue.
