Tronotron Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 So I've been playing the BlazBlue games for like a year now, against the CPU, and it's getting boring. I've never tried playing online . Do these games have some sort of matching system with levels or whatever so you can choose to play against players of similar skill, and does this system actually work? I'm worried that I'll just run into combo hell. I haven't been studying frame data and stuff like that, no time for it. I can deal with the CPU on Hard and sometimes Very Hard difficulty but I rarely get more than a few hits from a combo. Are there other more casual players like me who play online? I play Hakumen and now getting into Bullet!
Starlight777 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Don't be scared. Getting bodied is actually part of the natural process of learning.
SolxBaiken Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 I play Hakumen People will be fearing you... and now getting into Bullet! Prepare to Q.Q But yeah, don't look at defeat as something negative and without merits, I know it's hard not to get consumed by the SALT but always try to look at each loss in an analytical light. Take it one game at a time~
nstalkie Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Yeah, no point in being scared. Everybody loses from time to time, even the best players. I find that in Europe, people are pretty helpful online for BB. You may want to have a look at the online play threads and find some other UK people that are willing to play you and who are willing to train you a little bit. Maybe you'll even find a couple of new real-life friends. I've met many of the UK's best BB players IRL when I went to Super vs Battle in London a couple of times and none of them are assholes, all of them are willing to help out new players. BB has some very high level play online, but don't let that keep you from trying it out. Playing against the CPU is very different from playing against humans. You just have to think: what can be the worst thing that can happen ? losing matches ? getting an asshole to send you a hate message ? That's all nothing If you want, you can add me. i can give you tips or pointers on how to improve (I'm not a truely top player though and I don't play Hakumen or Bullet). I'll only be getting my copy on tuesday and probably won't be playing online before the weekend. If my PSN friend list is full, just message me and I'll add you myself.
TheArm05 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 No reason to fear people online. There are people from every skill level that play and losing is natural in fighting games. Go into player matches and find a room with the beginner emblem or make a beginner room. Once you have a gauge on where you stand versus other beginners you can go from there taking on higher level players. Getting totally bodied by someone who is multiple skill tiers above you isn't fun for you or them so players at that level will not go into beginner rooms.
SoWL Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 I'm actually in a similar situation, since I never played Ranked (though it mostly has to do with my region). I do play with my friends online, though, and I can say that the most important thing is realising your mistakes and learning from them. Record replays, watch them, see what you did wrong and try not to do it again. Sounds easy, but it's enough to improve your gameplay by leaps and bounds. Prepare to Q.Q Come on, it could be worse. Why have no one but you QQ'd about Bullet so far? Speaking of which, feel free to drop by the character forums and don't be afraid of asking questions - we are here to share our info, after all.

I play Hakumen and now getting into Bullet! Fear of playing online basically comes from being afraid that people will think less of you/ridicule you for being bad. This is untrue, for two reasons: 1.) Most people are nice and helpful, and you shouldn't care about the ones who aren't. 2.) The FGC is generally a pretty casual community, where people of all skill levels regularly meet to play with each other. Occasionally, you might run into somebody who only wants to play against people of their own level, but that's okay. It doesn't make them a jerk. You'll eventually make friends who are new like you, or experienced and willing to help, and you can play with them.
SolxBaiken Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Come on, it could be worse. Why have no one but you QQ'd about Bullet so far? Haha, I'm just hopelessly pessimistic, but now that the loop is broken I hope to encounter more favorable possibilities...OF THE CONTINUUM SHIFT!
Universe Arcana Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Being a new BlazBlue player myself, I can totally understand how you feel. However, you shouldn't let online intimidate you. Losing will happen, it's inevitable. You just have to learn from those loses. The one thing I used to do is just play with friends in player matches first instead of going off into ranked. That helped me out a lot when I first played CSE. You can add me as well, if you'd like and we can practice some. :D
Tronotron Posted October 25, 2013 Author Posted October 25, 2013 Nice, thank you all, this place is great! I'll look for you online! I'm playing CP now, glad to find that Hakumen continues to destroy! What is the problem with Bullet?
mAceOfHearts Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Playing online with strangers will always feel a bit intimidating if you have a competetive nature. My heart still starts racing when I get into a Ranked Match or fight someone I've never fought before, but it's kind of rush I actually enjoy. You could always drop whoever you just fought a message, praising some aspect of their gameplay or asking them for advice on how to improve. (Since they just fought you, they'll obviously know what you have a tendency of doing in battle.)
SolxBaiken Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 What is the problem with Bullet? "Nothing" but from my own interpretations of the match vids we've gotten since arcade release, if she loses momentum she doesn't gain it back so easily... You'd be surprised at how many times I've seen Bullet destroy someone in round one and then just lose the match Q.Q it's been personally demoralizing to me, but now that we an actually play the game I can blame all loses on my own lack of skill~ = w=b
Teutonicknight Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 I've lost way more times than I actually won. As long as there is fun to be had from the matches, that's all that counts. You will get better as time goes on though, and online is where you will learn the fastest and the most effective. I was in your shoes for sure, I can beat Hell cpu's easily, but actual players are an entirely different story.
Xenesis13 Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 I'm hiding from online as well, but I'm a special case because I'm like spectacularly, mind-meltingly bad at this game. I lose to the computer all the time... on *ahem* all difficulties. I'm not brand new to fighting games, I know a decent amount about fighters and even knew some combos in CSEX, but I spend the overwhelming majority of games in "ok.... wtf do I do now?" mode, I tend to panic and just mash. Of course this is against computers, I'd probably just seize up in the face of the unbridled terror of PvP lol Also I used to get crazy bad ladder anxiety in Starcraft, so I'm thinking its pretty much the same thing here. Still hoping tho, that someday I will be able to go lose without fear online!

Still hoping tho, that someday I will be able to go lose without fear online! Here's my theory with online play in any game: There will always be someone who sucks more than you do. And the best part? You'll probably be paired up with those people! The ranking system in BlazBlue I feel like is pretty reliable in terms of matching you within your skillpool. So you'll start up fighting opponents who are probably in the same situation that you are. Also, don't worry about ranking anxiety. You can't go down in ranking in this game. You'll only lose points in your W/L ratio is you lose. The number that "defines how good you are" can't go down. At least not in the previous versions. Not 100% sure about Chronophantasma. If you're still scared, make a few friends ad do some practice matches in a private lobby. It's a great way to meet try to gt over whatever you're scared about in online matches. Best of luck!

Looking to get into it properly now with CP. I'm from UK as well so connection should be good, please add me on PSN. Any other EU scrubs feel free to add me, or anyone that wants a punching bag. I'm on most evenings, usually hiding in training mode. I main Jin.
