OmnixTSC Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 His doll is ridiculously annoying against people who can't poke it though. I find the Hazama/Carl matchup to be one of his worst since Hazama has to burn so much chain movement to get past the doll and he doesn't get any easy way to rebuild stocks. Not to mention Hazama doesn't really have any big safe long-range attacks capable of hurting the doll significantly without getting blown up by Carl himself in the process. The doll is also annoying for neutralizing Izayoi's projectiles so I might just be biased. I definitely agree that characters like Mu and probably Ragna/Jin/Haku would wreck Carl for free though. Honestly, Carl's neutral against characters like Hakumen and Mu isn't that bad. Sure, his doll movement is limited a good bit, but he still has options. His neutral isn't too bad against Ragna or Jin, either. Most characters lose some options when they have to deal with different toolsets in general. Anyways, I just wanted to say that I don't feel that Bullet or Makoto are all that good for a beginner to pick up, at least not atm. Sure, their combos aren't too big of a deal in comparison to the rest of the cast. Both of them have a lot of issues at neutral that even a beginner can exploit if they're at least aware of how far certain buttons extend or relatively how fast their normals are. Their pressure and tools gets blown up really easily by mashing at times, as well. That can be kind of off-putting to a new player.

That's true, but to be honest, I think that "easiest character to win with after learning how to use them" is pretty much just the standard tier list with Valkenhayn on the top and Izayoi on the bottom, so I don't think that's what the OP is looking for (correct me if I'm wrong, of course, OP!). Personally, I think characters with easy execution and a straight-forward game plan, but difficult neutral are a good way to learn fighting game fundamentals since you can concentrate on learning to play in neutral without worrying about execution. As for characters who are easiest to use and who are also high tier, maybe Mu would be a good one. She has god-like neutral and good damage and setups, and I think her combos are pretty easy so long as you're good at dashing in the middle of combos. Also, Jin is probably good too. He's pretty well-rounded and his combos and confirms seem to be on the easier side execution-wise.
bakahyl Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Honestly, Carl's neutral against characters like .... Mu isn't that bad. C0R disagrees on that µ is actually one of if not Carl's worst matchups. Remember that the objective is not to kill Carl, it's to kill Nirvana. Your ability to chain out of normals when hitting her, combined with the very large base damage of µ's normals means that the doll dies very quickly from a safe poking range, essentially invalidating carl as a character.
Ashura San Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 From easiest (S) to hardest (Carl) S: Jin, Noel, Terumi, Tager, Kagura A: Bullet, Ragna, Hakumen, Platinum, Azrael, Bang, Tsubaki B: Nu, Makoto, Mu, Litchi B-: Kokonoe C: Relius, Hazama, Valkenhayn, Tao D: Arakune, Rachel, Amane, Izayoi Carl Tier: Carl Aaaaaand now I cant stop laughing at Carl Tier. xD Is amane really that hard to learn? I really wanted to have him as a sub when I got the game. @_@
natearistata Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Amane very awkward in general. A lot of pokes have extended hitboxes with zones in the middle that don't actually have a hitbox, so it's not rare to see your pokes just fly straight through someone if not spaced perfectly (and then you'll generally get whiff punished). He also has unique movement. So you combine the odd pokes and precise spacing required to use them optimally (and if you don't use them optimally, you get exploded by counters) with the awkward movement and his neutral game can be pretty difficult to learn.

She's def a struggle. Zoning effectively requires wizardry. One projectile whiff and you eat a full combo and will find yourself in the corner with zero defensive options. Combos are unforgiving. Juggling the two modes can be quite difficult as well.
Errol Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 can we just agree that all of these lists are crap and close the thread.
