Radiance Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 I need help/guidance in Blazblue. I'm not entirely new to the series i've been playing it mostly since CT however I want to start playing competitively. I'm quite sure I know most of the mechanics of the game, but I'm trash at the game and I really want to get better. I get overwhelmed by my opponents offense, once they start it feels as if they never stop and I have no way out. I play Amane, Tsubaki, and Mu-12. I have experience in both 3D and 2D fighting games and generally don't require help getting better at them, but I've never been able to get good at arc systems fighting games. If someone can give me tips/pointers or play with me and see where i'm lacking it would really be helpful.
Stellarcircle5 Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 A sad truth about BBCP is that there is a level of BS that certain characters have a hard time dealing with. Given that you play Amane, Tsubaki, and Mu I would actually recommend grinding the latter of the three a bit harder. I personally would never recommend someone to try to learn real competitive tactics using Amane and Tsubaki. Mu is incredibly solid in neutral and getting a good grasp on her in particular on a competitive level would really benefit your overall gameplay. After you feel really competent with Mu, you could pick up Tsubaki and Amane again, apply your knowledge learned from Mu, and start finding ways to play around their big weaknesses. I'm doing the same thing to learn Arakune right now! I don't want this to come off as "Play an S tier or don't bother" because that is flat out wrong. I play Valkenhayn and get consistently bodied by Tager for god sakes! I just wouldn't want to make it harder for myself during the learning process. Just some food for thought.

I do perform better with Mu-12 than anyone else, although that may be because I've been playing her since CS. I'll focus on her, and browse the forums to look for tips; specifically the mu section, learn match up's, and look at frame data.
mAceOfHearts Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Having a DP is incredibly helpful, which is why you probably have trouble with Amane (Super Only) and Tsubaki. (Not terribly useful) MU's DP is very good, so try to use that to interrupt your opponent's offense.
crimsonstardust Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 I have trouble with people just slapping mad buttons myself, what helps is to review replays and try to figure out what went wrong or ask around in respective character threads. It also helps to know frame data and gattlings cause that helps with the defensive aspect of the game. I was also suggested to learn instant blocking for specific moves and block strings. This won't get mentioned as much but when you go online there is gonna be a lot of just mashing out of strings and this is where a lot of the Tagar hate seems to come from cause people just turn the butter and will grab you for dropping a combo or misplaced block string simply cause those tiny bits of lag will do that... If you can its best to try and practice with a 3Bar connection, 4 is even better if you can find one, though 3 can be a little finicky at times cause I've played a number of matches where it felt more like 2bars. So really take everything you do online with a grain of salt as well. (not as in getting salty salt) What I've been also advised on regarding dealing with offence was part of a good defense also means knowing when to hit people out of strings cause you can't run the clock down no matter how good your blocking is or you'll never get out and its a matter of time where one hit or throw will open you up.

Daedron Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 It's also pretty safe to boot, especially with charge! Oh did I mention it goes into 2.7K with said charge (3.3K with 50 meter!) and I believe with some OD shenanigans you can get up to 5K! So wonderful.

Not at all. I've never seen anyone make good use of it, combos aside. Blame my inexperience with CP Tsubaki, I just assumed it was still like the CSEX version.

They made some tweaks that seem to help it a lot. I used to be able to 3C right through it for a free void hit in extend, but it seems to be a lot safer in CP. Tsubaki has a couple of options afterwards now too. They're not really safe, but it keeps you're opponent guessing usually.

They're not really safe, but it keeps you're opponent guessing usually. Well, for one thing, it's not a projectile anymore, which keeps it from being free to Sledge and Hakumen. Second, it just has more invulnerability, so it trades less. Third, they removed landing recovery from j.236D, which means that cancelling into that makes it surprisingly safe on block (the opponent HAS to punish you in the air, and there's a big glowy projectile in the way of them doing so.). Japanese Tsubaki players DP a LOT now.
cp24eva Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 This is helpful. I too have never been great at arc sys games, but I love the style. I'm in the same boat as the OP. I use makoto for now and I plan on doing that for a few weeks to a month. I see online folks play and it seems like they have an intimate relationship with the character they are using. Like out any one punch it seems like it is the starter of a combo. Even air to air attacks seem to spawn a combo. Not something I'm really used to coming from a street fighter background.
