Hey everyone, I picked up P4AU when it came out so I could learn it along with other new players to the game. I am rather new to 2D fighters in general, I don't post here much and it's mainly in the EXVS section.

I know I am rather scrubby and I picked a scrubby character like Minazuki to play since he is so easy. To be honest I don't even know what character I would like to play. I really just want to get practice games in with other people to get a feel for fighting games and actually figure out how I want to play them.

I take that as offensive, as a minazuki main.

If you want to learn Minazuki, message me and we can reign supreme in the lobbies :^)

Also, I'm landing that damn deadly rave, doing it online has such a weird rhythm compared to doing CMV shit in training.

Ah, technical difficulties.  Maybe that's why I didn't get into the room.

I hosted a beginner's room a few times this weekend.  I change the title of the room to rookie training or beginners so people can tell.

So if I need to leave, I can't make someone else the host (like DOA5U)? Seems like the whole room vanishes if I go, which must be a pain for everyone. 0.0

Slowly improving defense.  Got a few wins with Teddie.  One w/Chie (maybe I should sub her- enjoy the character & playstyle).  Trying to block those AoAs...

Need to learn combos (I have a lot written down, but can't do them too well).  I have a much easier time w/Skullgirls combos for some reason.

I go to the TV World lobby sometimes.   Now have a dark blue color card.

Hope to join in next weekend.

Really wish I could offer good advice to people who are really struggling to improve. Unfortunately I barely know what I'm doing, lol. I only win cause Marie is a bit of a noob killer with those giant normals of hers.

Stick with Teddie though, he's supposed to be quite a good character and has the randomness of items to help cover your weaknesses.

Just ask lots of questions on the Teddie boards, maybe a Ted master will help you (you probably already did this...).

I guess you must have picked him up more recently or something because you blew me up in ranked with Narukami.

But that was great too because I don't get to see players use OMC to make their pressure safe and punish someone for trying to poke out of it. I mean I have no idea how or when to use meter on defense or offense, all its good for is supers for me.

Yea, this is something we learn sooner or later, so no worries. Depending, on the character, you are not going to be using meter much for supers because there is more utility in canceling moves with OMC, and getting out of pressure with guard cancel and guard cancel roll. Keep at it man[emoji106]

When? I never play ranked, let alone with Narukami. I'd be willing to help (and I'm sure everyone else will) you learn how to use OMC and other mechanics properly on offense as well as defense.

You can always shoot me a message if you want to ask something, I don't mind. For something more advanced, I'd ask mixed though, since system mechanics are her thing.

EDIT: Oh, I do remember that match, was a while ago. I'd stay away from ranked if you actually want to improve, a lot of people in ranked use very questionable tactics to win. I've got less than 100 matches in ranked(somehow 6th dan!) but 1.5k lobby matches and like 300+ player matches.

I just play ranked because I can get random matches while mashing buttons in training mode. My execution needs work and I feel like I am still so new to this that any match against a human player is a potential learning experience. Even if I fail to learn anything, because I am terrible and it takes forever for me to figure anything out.

There is always that pressure for me when playing in lobbies that I just might be wasting someone else's time when going against better players. The skill levels are all over the place as well as network quality.

Colour usually is some sort of skill indicator, although sometimes people of higher skill stay lower for whatever reasons. If you still play Minazuki, I can teach you some stuff and make you into a true Katana God after a couple sessions. It took me a while to learn the fundamentals of this game, but I feel like i'm pretty solid now if I'm playing seriously. Some people learn new things faster than others, and some excel in different areas. I'm really good at memorising combos for different situations, numbers, and what not, but I tend to forget them when it's time to put them into practice in a real match.

People aren't super hostile in lobbies, anyone can learn something, even when fighting a less experienced player at a high level. Network quality; you want to stick to 3/4 bars, 2 bar is usually playable with some lag here and there.

I almost exclusively play in lobbies if I'm not in a room with mixed because waiting in player lobbies suuuuuucks. 1.5k lobby matches :)

On the flipside, there are people of higher color ranks that really make ya wonder how they got there...

Ranked is a good way to get a lot of matches in pretty quickly. Its a good way to fight other new people, Unfortunately you going to play a lot of people doing really stupid random things (so you might learn bad habits). Lobbies are great if you are in a small one, you can keep fighting the same person/people and actual develop knowledge of the character/matchup (they can give you tips too). Jumping into a 8 player lobby with people way higher skilled then you can be a drag though, but you can watch them to see how they play, and you can understand the game better.

I got back late today and played a set for about an hour and a half against someone so don't have much time today. I certainly don't mind tips and suggestions, if I can show up at a good time for you.

Don't know how much I can learn though. My execution is terrible and my reactions are even worse, the only thing I can really do is just press buttons expecting that they work and hold that punish when they don't.

If the Fri. beginner room's happening, feel free to invite me.  Hopefully I've improved since two weeks ago (didn't get in last week).  Thanks.

Also, anyone wanting some matches this weekend, please send me an invite.

I have been doing nothing but playing this game today. Expect Narukami bullshit.

Also, lostconfused, I was too tired to stay up last night and play, i dunno if you were on anyway but I just went out cold lol

Will the sudden focus on AoA in 2.0 have any effect on the rules? Seems they might become a more frequent part of offense now.

Narukami only, AoA only, Final Destination!

I don't think so, besides the move being annoying to deal with.

Until 2.0 hits, the rule stands. If you go for AoA, you'd better be ready to back it up with more than six hits.

It's not that AoA's are explicitly bad....just...don't do 2 hits or jump up to do nothing else ya know? 2A > AOA /every/ time isn't that hot either. Button hold should mean that full hits are more than possible with no effort. The second part is the more important reason - "If you have to do it, make the most of it" basically

You will be okay as long as you haven't done any of my numbers in the past two days.

- Walk up throw to Liz Ghastly Wail (as Naoto)

- See bull grab being primed right in front of you, downback anyway (as Chie)

- See bull grab being primed again, but somehow thought it was 2C and do 5C from fullscreen so you can't move (as Adachi)

- Run fullscreen into Shabrys DP multiple times

One of the perks to having a crappy AoA is that I'll never have to worry about this rule =D

Oh and uh...I haven't done those things, Fortune...yet.
