Adelheid Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 There's always me in Washington. I'm just a bad Digital Watches anyway.
Mahouko Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 -_- when i first got this game i was to into it. Even though I kept losing to comps I didnt give up. I began think of new combos. and I kept progressing to maniac, then I once again started to lose alot. So I decided to use the best thing i could do and help me get new ideas. watch videos. and then i found this fourm, thats how I taught myself T_T i gotta fight some really strong people
Heavy_Mental Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 I've recently been trying to get some of my classmates into Guilty Gear. One of them is a gaming maniac so I don't have to worry about keeping him motivated. Introduced him to this site and Shonen (he's currently playing Testament) and I think he should be hooked. Two other fellers I've gotten into Guilty Gear, but have yet to really teach them much in-depth stuff. Don't think they play much either. Bummer. I need more competition.
Chrome Homura Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I need more competition. You and everyone else, dude. *stares at sig, sighs* Yeah. I've tried to get people at my shop to play it, but the MTG scene where I live (the only real social contact I get with anyone outside my home) pretty much has no interest in fighters... well, save for a small group of ignorant bastards who play SF4 and refuse to play non Sagat/shoto characters save for the occasional "Gief" lol session. I pretty much have no idea how to get anyone to want to play it. It seems like every time someone has tried it, they look at the char select screen and decide chars like Pot or Baiken look cool so they pick them first despite my advice... how the hell am I supposed to teach somebody like that!? And then of course there's the faith-shattering moments when they make fun of me for playing it too.
Hellmonkey Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 If they decide pot and baiken are cool i see a bright future for them in gg
Shining Aquas Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 It seems like every time someone has tried it, they look at the char select screen and decide chars like Pot or Baiken look cool so they pick them first despite my advice... how the hell am I supposed to beat somebody like that!? Fix'd, in light of poster plays Johnny Seriously though, there are some people who just can't deal with advanced......or at least obscure fighters like GG. Sounds like you would be really hard pressed to get them into it since they worship Suck Fighter 4. Perhaps try getting them into Blazblue first, watch as they only play Ragna and Jin.......and Tager. Then after they've gotten accustomed to or at least enjoy BB, then started getting them into Guilty Gear. If that don't work, play Street Fighter with them?
Digital Watches Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 You're from Eugene? Do you have a car? I know two people who play in Salem, one in... er... a bit west of Dundee now? And like 3 (well, including me) in Portland. Hit us up sometime.
Chrome Homura Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Fix'd, in light of poster plays Johnny Real funny. I'll admit I got pretty close to writing a rant defending my playskill, but that would be splitting hairs. *rest of post* I actually did play some SF4 with this group last week. Aside from discovering that Rose is actually pretty cool unlike the rest of the non-Ken Masters cast, it was pretty miserable losing to "just above scrub level but still pretty bad" Sagat every time, until I finally started reading him enough to win a match and then he quit, claiming he was too drunk to play well anymore. That about sums up the experience for me. @Digital Watches: Unfortunately no, I do not own a car. In theory Parental Taxi Service could get me up there, but it's an expensive drive (what with gas prices and all) which in all honesty I can't afford to do more than once a month...
Sakret Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 In my area there only exists Melee and Street Fighter IV (friend just said there isn't but in my opinion there is) groups. Both of which believe their respective games are the best. Nonetheless, I'm converting a few people into GG just because I just started it myself. I think the thing is to just convert people in groups so they always have someone to play against. Plus once you get two people to start an arms race against eachother in a game they become addicts. (well this is how I converted people over to melee, trying the same things for people in GG)
Mahouko Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Ok just asking what the hell is so f-en good about Street Fighter 4? someone plz tell me cause i personally think its an ass game, on the other hand teaching GG is kinda hard, I play with my brothers and friends. They know things here and there but they cant input it. They have the knowledge but they dont get enough practice cause they have lots of school work sadly
Chrome Homura Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Ok just asking what the hell is so f-en good about Street Fighter 4? Pretty much nothing actually, the 3D graphics and the franchise name are enough to generate massive amounts of hype no matter how unimpressive the actual gameplay is. Not to say that it's completely terrible, but... you know. It's not GG. Wait that is enough to make it terrible wtf am I talking about
Sakret Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Pretty much nothing actually, the 3D graphics and the franchise name are enough to generate massive amounts of hype no matter how unimpressive the actual gameplay is. Not to say that it's completely terrible, but... you know. It's not GG. Wait that is enough to make it terrible wtf am I talking about ha, more like its because the game mechanics and the characters are so brain dead easy to understand and play the general hordes of hormonal tweens can pick the game up and feel like they're doing something. Aka, HADOKEN HADOKEN HADOKEN SHORYUKEN win To be fair though,I will admit there is a little depth but nothing mind boggling. The combos are simplistic and you get rewarded wayy too much for simple keep away/zoning (the best example that comes to mind is the akuma vs Gief match-up where you can spend the entire match using a grand total of 2 moves and still win). Back on topic, I just think (as mentioned earlier in the thread) the only way to teach this game is to have interest in the first place and a want to learn. Which is also where i think comes alot of difficulty since people would much rather play SFIV and BB (whom I've heard people say is the same game as GG and thus they believe they are technically playing GG anyway) over Guilty Gear. tl;dr SFIV sucks. Getting people interested in Guilty Gear is hard.
Chrome Homura Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 BB (whom I've heard people say is the same game as GG and thus they believe they are technically playing GG anyway) ... Wait, stop right there. Is this real!?
ajinkris Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 If they decide pot and baiken are cool i see a bright future for them in gg You are a sick person. ...but I agree.
Lord_Phoenix Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 I'd almost tell them to start with Mashy blood as it has some basic GG playstyle and easy to link combos and go from there. If they like Melty Blood the leap to Guilty Gear isn't AS big as saying SF or MvC2 to GG.
Mahouko Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 at least u get diversity in GG, in MvC2 all u see are the same 3 people -.-. IN EVERY TOURNAMENT

Sakret Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 ... Wait, stop right there. Is this real!? For the people I talk to, sadly yes. this is a terrible idea, that is how you pick up bad habits and never get beyond scrub level. Too true. at least u get diversity in GG, in MvC2 all u see are the same 3 people -.-. IN EVERY TOURNAMENT Oh whats your team? Sentinel, storm, commando? Or sentinel storm magneto? wait you use son-son? I thought everyone outside of the top characters were only there as jokes. *sarcasm*
apex Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 So I'm one of those noobs that wishes to learn the game. I entered a few tournaments before ever even playing the game (fighting game = fun for me). I liked it enough to hunt down a brand new copy for ps2 for a mere $30. I JUST last night modded my custom stick to have PS2 capability. BlueNINE has offered to try to teach me, but he's an hour from me. 90% of the people I talk to say its dead, dont play it. Too late, I bought it. I for one have a soft spot for oldie-but-goodie fighters, especially ones that I can play with even a few different people, eventually competitively. I wish it had Netplay, because I feel it would be easier to get up to speed. I play fighting games in general, so I think that'll help. This message is for those that seek to teach. All is not lost, as I am one more mind thirsty for GG knowledge. I appreciate the time, effort and patience anybody affords me. Off to read, I go.
Hi-C Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 Well, good to see someone is interested. I guess your in the North VA/Maryland area if Blue is somewhere near you. But I've only met him once, so dunno. GG:AC isn't that new (unless your playing Reload or Slash). Pending on the char you play, check out the forums below and check out the matchups and guides for 101's and basic training and tips (once again your 101's). Happy playing.
Izanagi SOL777 Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Sadly my place doesn't get enough Guilty Gear love... and so I don't have anyone to play with other than CPU's , and have to learn FRCing and combos from scratch, not too bad, just sacrifice your time off a little in training.
Jakestation Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 tell them to start with HnK, after that gg feels like taking a lollipop from 2y old kid.
