excelence Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Got my first fight yesterday against decent Arakune, that's makes me -> wtf??? i can't touch him, and i'm the one chasing him like mad, but i got strike with Negative Penalty??? anyone has sweet cookies for our Noel against that flying Blob?
Hellmonkey Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 play v-13.. Really though noel is always going to struggle against arakune. You can only be a threat up close and getting there will be incredibly difficult even against an average arakune. If you let him curse you for free it's almost unwinnable. Pretty much the only way to deal with him is staying on him once you're in.
excelence Posted May 11, 2009 Author Posted May 11, 2009 Does this match really that hopeless? i mean, does she really have no air option to nail Arakune down? ... well i feel like all my air normal keep got beaten >_> ... and i didn't really know Arakune moves, and fells like i need to take a risk to get him down on my pressure ... well if i randomly got caught with his Seal... yeah, i need to insert more coins
Nas Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Does this match really that hopeless? i mean, does she really have no air option to nail Arakune down? ... well i feel like all my air normal keep got beaten >_> ... and i didn't really know Arakune moves, and fells like i need to take a risk to get him down on my pressure ... well if i randomly got caught with his Seal... yeah, i need to insert more coins it's not hopless..but it's definetely very uphill...like you have to stay on him as mention above... air throw actually does help in air battles.. that and j.a when your curse there's not much you can do.. you pretty much have to wait it out..and keep your paitence... just keep yourself in defensive mode unless you see openings. and there isn't going to be that many... so if you do see one capitalize on those moments when you get them.. but if you happen be not curse... don't let him outta your sight.. but beware as well.. all his D moves curse on hit (cloud on block)... also beware what the bugs do.. if you happen to be in the air while curse.. he does have a bug that is air unblockable.. so barrier if you anticpate (or ib for a better choice).. also watch the mixup carefully between 6B/2A (ithink that's the high/low mixup).. if they land they do lead to you being curse(follow by damaging combos)... keep in mind he can jump cancel his overhead... i wish there's more i can help with but.. to keep in broader terms as stated above..it's a really hard fight.. but making sure to keep yourself outta being curse.. easier said than done... but. that is a major part of his game.. a good way of doin g is staying on him..so he dosen't set up what he needs to keep you cursed... EDIT: keep in mind i have limited exp in this matchup.. but this is some of the ways this has help me.. i feel air throw is actually pretty key in a lot different situations.. and that oddly enough save me in alot different situations(not to mention it does get rid of curse and clouds)..granted not end all be all.. but it has be very helpful in my matches with arakune

As Nas said, it's hard but not impossible. Air throw isn't that great here or well....at least against rushdown Arakunes and you should rarely use it against the rushdown types. Reason for this is because of Arakune's bird aka j.6B and I think j.6C as well. I've tried air throws and they don't particularly work at least against the Arakune I play. Though, if you do anticipate the bird, you can 6A that into a free combo. As Nas said, mix up is 6B/2B. If you jump in, watch out for the tongue attack. Slower than Noel's and Ragna's 6A but has the same property of upper body invincibility. I'm pretty sure there are no unblockable bugs if you're in the air. You have to watch out for the D version of the bug though. It does a TON of damage. If you're cursed and you're playing against a rushdown Arakune, wait for an opportunity to poke with 5A or 2A to get out of the curse. If it's a zoning arakune, best thing I can think of is to wait it out. Btw Nas, if Arakune anticipates you jumping, he can do a combo leading into a curse anyways. And jump cancel which overhead? Arakune has 2 overheads he can do. Arakune's mix ups from what I've seen so far is the arm overhead on the first hit on wake up or arakune's 2A. A few more tips I have would be: 1. Stay out of the corner because Arakune has a corner trap that you can't get out of. 2. If you're not cursed and Arakune is doing his 2D (spitting out worm balls), Noel's 2D goes over it and will hit Arakune for you to do a free combo. 3. If you're cursed and Arakune throws you, you will be uncursed if you are able to escape the throw. 4. If you're cursed and you throw Arakune, you will be uncursed no matter if Arakune escapes the throw or not. 5. Try and avoid the cloud if possible. Btw, I've been playing against Arakune a lot. But I've only played against 1 person that plays a rushdown Arakune. It can be frustrating at times but hang in there.

excelence Posted May 13, 2009 Author Posted May 13, 2009 I do try Air Throw against the Arakune i play and it does work... i'm pretty certain Nas didn't meant Air Throw as a magic trick to work on this match up. as the throw range're suck and we need to read Arakune flying trajectory to be able to throw him out ... which is still fucking hard to do, anyway it's better option than got beaten when trying to hit him with any normal she has. and i forgot to test, can she outprioritize Arakune with her j.236c(forgot the name)?

HeartNana Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 My strats against arakune in as few words as possible: RTSD & airthrow
CopperDabbit Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Couple of quick notes: 1) Arakune has 2 overheads: 6A and 6C. 6A leads into combo 2) Noel's Air Throw DOES work against Arakune's bird (he has three actually, j.6A,B or C) but it does NOT work if they're fully extended. Startup only.
Sarsapari Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 Update: Don't try to beat out horizontal spike with jB. It only ends in sadness, damage, and a marked Noel.
Wutai_Shinobi Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 Arakune has this move where he runs across the floor~ I don't know what it's called and don't have the game with me to be more specific ^_^;; It's an attack that has him sliding along the floor~~~ I've been trying to stuff it with various attacks but I keep getting hit. If you know what I'm talking about, is there a way to beat out that move or should I just block it and move on? Sorry for not being very clear.
archling Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 Just block and punish with 2A 2B. You get a chain to 3C, 22C since he's in crouching state too.
D-ploy Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Arakune's two cheapest bugs A and B are both air unblockable. A comes around every 40 frames.

If I understand correctly, is it the move where Arakune turns into something like a shark head and moves across the floor? That's his 3C, I believe. I just block it until it's over, then punish him from there.
jio Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Just block and punish with 2A 2B. You get a chain to 3C, 22C since he's in crouching state too. or u can block it, then 5d>6d.../2c>3c...
Wutai_Shinobi Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Yes, 3C shark move is it lol I have to get use to not being able to summarily stuff peoples attacks this game around. Thanks for the responses ^_^
Steez Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 A friend of mine has a pretty good Arakune. He likes to grab like an ass though. Literally. If all Arakunes are like that, you can keep using the 236C or B to flinch him, then run in for some damage. You really just have to keep your distance. Keep in mind that you can shoot those little rodents that curse you. And Arakunes like to fly, a lot. So try to catch them in the 6C then unleash hell.
Shinsua Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Arakune's 3C causes him to disappear and reappear a rather good distance ahead and try to take out the legs of the target The Shark Crawl is 2C, but yes, block and punish. . . *Sigh* T-T
andianqz Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Can anyone confirm if it is possible to kill the insect swarm (air 236 D). I know if it hits you or if you block it you get marked.. but I think I was goofing around once and I slashed it and it went away. I tried again another time online I got a counter hit and marked me.. not sure if I just missed or I was crazy the first time. Sometimes I'm in a corner and that insect thing is coming in and I'd like to know if this is an option.. as usually Arakune expects me to run from it.. leading into some sort of trap of his or another.
kuma Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Can anyone confirm if it is possible to kill the insect swarm (air 236 D). Noel can't, although Hakumen can, since he can cut projectiles.
andianqz Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Noel can't, although Hakumen can, since he can cut projectiles. Oic.. that makes sense I was goofing off with Hakumen actually. Hmm damn. Well guess I'll just keep getting my face melted.
PeJ Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 With Nu-13, Noel vs Arakune is oen of the hardest match. Arakune is very difficult to stop because Noel don't have anti-air move like dragon punch and Arakune can often use his malediction. SO I do't know how you rat this match but for me it's 7-3 for Arakune
cerebralsoldier Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I'm not super- experienced but I do have a friend that plays a decent arakune and I gotta say, pretty much nothing you do is going to make this matchup easy. But it is possible to win. I find you pretty much have to avoid that stupid cloud at all costs and block/ barrier gaurd everything else until he messes up and u have a chance to hit him. and for god sakes make it count and dont let that blob out of your sight. Also, since Noel has one of the shortest jumps in the game and arakune has the highest, I wouldnt even bother with anything but super/double jump if u hope to stuff him out of the air or hit him before he can summon a cloud or while he is backdashing.
