Importing 101 Tutorial

By Guest, in Home,

Yesterday, Kurushii posted a very thorough guide for importing games. This is particularly useful because many tournament players of Arc System Works fighters import their games, mostly due to the large gaps between Japanese and North American releases. Included in the tutorial are a guide for making a Japanese PSN account, lists of places to buy Japanese PSN card codes, and places to order physical import games from. There's also a game-specific guide for purchasing Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R, in case you're too impatient to wait for the North American release of the +R update. If you've ever considered importing, but didn't understand how to use the Japanese version of the PlayStation store or just weren't sure where to buy a physical copy of a Japanese game, give Kurushii's tutorial a read!

Northeast Championship XIV Details Announced

By Guest, in Home,

NEC is right around the corner! Big E has just posted details for this year's tournament, which will span the dates of December 6th, 7th, and 8th. It will be held in the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center, only a mile away from the Philadelphia International Airport:

[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]
Games included in the lineup are Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Injustice, Killer Instinct, Mortal Kombat 9, Soul Calibur 5, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Persona 4 Arena, BlazBlue (presumably Chrono Phantasma), Guilty Gear, and more. The event will be sponsored by Big E Gaming, Team Sp00ky, Madcatz and Markman, and Team TFC.

Additionally, the tournament will be helping out the local community with a can drive, so bring some canned food and/or non-perishables with you when you go! If you don't want to carry them in your luggage, there are a few grocery stores and food marts within a 2 mile radius of the hotel which you can buy goods from to donate.

Full details, such as the way to purchase rooms at a discount price, are located here.

Just remember how hype NEC was last year and keep that in mind before deciding to dodge! http://www.dustloop.com/forums/uploads/emoticons/default_v.gif' alt=':v:'> Although nothing is completely certain yet, current plans are for BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma and Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R to be 3v3, while Persona 4 Arena will be singles.

Persona 4 Climax Loketest Recap

By Guest, in Home,

This past weekend, a surprise location test was started for the Persona 4 Arena sequel, reportedly titled Persona 4 P-1 Climax. The loketest was started, practically unannounced, at two locations -- Hey Arcade in Akihabara and Taito Station Nihombashi in Osaka -- and ran August 16th-18th. The game appears to be themed after the Dark Hour in Persona 3 and the game's subtitle "P-1 Climax" leads many to believe that this will conclude the story started in Persona 4 Arena. As the entire game's system mechanics appear to have been revised, this looks like a full update of the game rather than just a balance patch.

Some of the biggest news is the inclusion of two new playable characters: Junpei and Yukari. Additionally, every character excluding Elizabeth and Shadow Labrys also has a "Shadow Mode". This mode removes the ability to burst in exchange for a "Shadow Berserk" mode that costs 100 meter but provides unlimited meter for a limited amount of time. Additionally, Shadow characters carry over meter from each round. There have also been other important system changes throughout the game, such as: new autocombos for the entire cast, the number of persona cards you have is now character-specific, quick escapes are now frame 1 projectile invulnerable, moves can now be cancelled into short hop, and short hops can be cancelled into an air move much sooner, but said move will not be an overhead.

There's been a large accumulation of information, but I've compiled everything I could find into one massive changelist. This has been compiled from the work MikeMuscles already put in as well as some additional information that’s been translated by Stunedge (Ho-Chan) since then:

Persona Combo Video Database

By Guest, in Home,

After working on the Blazblue database this one was really easy for me. I already had a template made for how I wanted to do things and all the videos were less than two years old. At first I wasn't going to cover Persona 4 Arena. I thought the game was going to ride off into the sunset as another one of ASW's solo titles to never receive a sequel. After seeing the announcement for the sequel I decided to green light this project and give it life. [PRBREAK][/PRBREAK] Thankfully only one video was banned on NicoNico but I had a backup available. Just like my other database if your video isn't listed or you see an error, please contact me. Details are in the thread.

Combo videos are great entertainment but also an amazing way to learn more about the game. Sadly a lot of these videos get lost in the wheels of time because of copyright infringements, deletion, or just not well exposed. We have users in the Dustloop community like Jourdal, and Pktazn who have showcased a ton of Japanese and North American videos on their Youtube channel over the years, but with YouTube getting more and more strict on uploads and shutting channels down, the majority of those videos are not easy to find. It's almost the same story for Japan with NicoNico. Some great combo videos can no longer be watched because of music copyright infringements. As someone who greatly enjoys watching these works of art, I wanted to make a centralized location to showcase all of them while providing backups in case they are taken down. This is my gift to the community and to cmv makers around the world! Enjoy!

Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- Loketest Recap

By Guest, in Home,

Last weekend, location testing began for Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- at the Sega building in Akihabara. Testing ran between the 9th and the 12th, resulting in an overwhelming wealth of screenshots, videos, and gameplay information. In addition to what was already known about the system mechanics, the loketest revealed a few more things. I've broken some of the important system information down into sections for ease of consumption and included the impressions of the players who attended the loketest.

Read the full details after the jump![PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]

Controls
Some of the biggest news, in my opinion, is the introduction of new control schemes for the arcade. Previous Guilty Gear games have included only one button layout, but it's very clear that Arc System Works intends to convert players of their other fighters by offering control schemes that they are already accustomed to. Something important to remember about this, is that Guilty Gear is unique in that it's multi-button inputs for Roman Cancels and Bursts are very flexible in what buttons can be used. Due to this fact, it means that various button layouts can be used without much, or possibly any, impact to which physical cab buttons need to be pressed to execute these. A photo with the layouts from Dengeki is shown below:

As you can see above, there's literally no change required between what buttons you use for Burst, Roman Cancel, Faultless Defense, Dead Angles, or Instant Kills between Types A and B. Type C only requires a change to Burst inputs and only if the player didn't previously use to execute Bursts. Types D and E would most likely require the player to get accustomed to a change in buttons for most of these game mechanics, but these are primarily there for Person 4 The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena players to have an easier time acclimating to Guilty Gear. This also holds true for BlazBlue players regarding Types B and C.

The important thing to take away from these layouts is that the flexibility of the inputs allows for very comfortable play when selecting any of these layouts. All of the mechanics mentioned above have the required buttons in close proximity to each other, meaning no strange finger-stretching inputs when selecting a new layout. While this is extremely helpful to those coming from BlazBlue or Persona, I imagine that veterans might find it useful as well.

Roman Cancels

Roman Cancels appear to now change color based on how they are used. They will always require 50% of the tension gauge; however, RCing a projectile will result in a yellow ring around your character, while a normal RC during a move will result in a red ring. Players at the loketest also confirmed seeing an RC ring purple in color, but there has yet to be any confirmation from Arc System Works as to what the function of this is. Current speculation is that it may indicate that the RC was done during recovery frames.

It is important to note that not all projectiles can be Roman Cancelled, but cancelling one results in the same slowdown mechanic as a normal RC. When Roman Cancelling a move, the game slows down everything but the player character that executed the cancel. According to posts by Stunedge, this slowdown time is pretty long and the opponent can also counter RC to slow down the player. Additionally, you can also Roman Cancel nearly every non-projectile move on whiff. There appear to be very few exceptions, such as the entire cast's dragon punch moves.

General Gameplay

The game appears to be mostly based off the #Reload iteration of Guilty Gear XX. This may have been due to the fact the game is such an early build, but it is currently not known whether or not Arc System Works intends to include many of the things introduced since then. Likewise, the voice clips were recycled as well. There was also no implementation of Instant Kills, but it is unknown whether or not this was only for the loketest. Finally, players were also reporting slightly increased hitstop, but no change to blockstun.

There are also a lot of other changes and improvements in the graphics and gameplay, but it's easiest to just watch videos that players took. There is a playlist located here that includes all of the videos I could find. If you know of some others, don't hesitate to send me a PM so I can include them in the playlist.

In addition to these things, there have been several summaries and impressions posted. These may overlap with each other, but multiple people saying the same thing from first-hand experience only solidifies the credibility. ElvenShadow posted a large number of notes, which Shoryuken.com took the time to summarize:

GGAC+R out for JP PSN!

By Guest, in Home,

If you're one of those fortunate souls able to purchase GGAC+ from the japanese PSN store, you can now update the game to +R for free!

When you load up the game, it will ask to download an update for 1.01 and is approximately 230MB.

But the game will still be regular AC+ until you change Options > Game Settings > Version to AC+R

You'll see "ver R" at the bottom right of you screen and the game will be in +R mode!

More visual aids after the jump!
[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]

Select ACR from the Game Options Menu

Afterwards you'll see "VER R" on the Main Menu
