I'm making a new mathcups section as discussed in this thread, and I've made a way to select matchup threads via 2 selection boxes. Hopefully i can get it up and running some time this weekend!

Ideas from the other thread included @zissou's idea of having a which included a huge table of links to threads for each matchup Other ideas include Do what the UNI forums have with a singular matchup forum for everyone to discuss matchups.Creating singular Matchup threads in each character's subforums to share anti-char techOne thing for sure, I want to get rid of the matchup subforums under each character's fourm haha

Yes, I wanted to make the side bar on the front page actually useful, but the forum software didn't agree with me I can customize it somewhat but it didn't work that well last time i tried when we first moved to the new software. There's a major software update that i've been neglecting. We're on version 3.4 and the latest is 4.0. I remember reading that front page sidebars are more customizable in 4.0 -

We did discuss making major changes to the matchup sections last night. I'm definintely in favor of making a major shakeup in there since the old ones have always had problems getting discussion. as for how to make it easlily navigatable... that's a another quesiton. i like the drop down idea but i'm not sure if that's possible with our software. -

we used to have a sidebar on the front page taht linked to teh caledar that showed upcoming tournaments. the forums still has that sidebar, but the front page does not due to forum software lacking that feature. there's actually a major upgrade to the software available that i believe has this and more, but finding a time to do the upgrade is tricky; i dont want to do it while there's a lot of discussion going on like right now and prematurely "end" it. -
some notes and numbers: setups:10. We had 1 more setup, but didn't put it up due to space. participants: around 40, but suite usually had around 30-35 people. start time: 4pm due to traffic and room not being ready end time: 5am cost including tax: $385 warning: particiapnt is an estimate going by memory + the quick video i took.

alright, checking out of the hotel in a moment. we found some aviator sunglasses, a bluetooth speaker, a bottle opener, and a power strip. i'm assuming teh speakers belong to the hotel and the rest is stuff people forgot. if any of hte other items belong to you, please let me know. also, i think last night was a success, plenty of games and we had just about enough room for everthing+everyone (even if it was a little crowded). not everyone who said they'd show up did but I'd say we would have needed 2 suites if everyone showed up... something to think about for next time..

it's not too bad. $350 + tax, so probably $400 total. If this becomes a regular thing then yes, i would like to set up a venue fee to help pay for it.

alright, i've changed my reservation from two rooms into 1 suite. hopefully taht gives us enough space to work with.

@chzchan, how many people do you think will come from UCI? also i reserved a second room just in case. pretty sure we'll have enuogh people to fill them

it's a regular hotel room so in theory it's not that big, probably just enough for 3-4 setups. i didn't do a head count, but i'm guessing 10ish? maybe i need to get a second hotel room...

With evo fast approaching, I was reminded how fun the anime suites were at hotels, where we all gathered to play games, talk and chill late into the night. Inspired by that, I've rented a hotel room for the night of July 11 so everyone can come in and play matches and gain some last minute matchup knowledge. I got a hotel suite because: 1. we don't have Super Arcade for the time being 2. we can play late into the night/next morning 3. no cleanup since that's covered by hotel (but still use common decency!) 4. likely more space to work with than most home gatherings Venue Fee: Free (bring setups and food) Location: Hotel Irvine 17900 Jamboree Boulevard Irvine, California Room Number: 446 Start Time: Whenever I check in. Earliest is 3pm. End Time: Whenever I check out. Final checkout is at noon. This is my first time doing something like this so hopefully this is useful for everyone. If it's successful, we can look into expanding it into more rooms or making it more formal with a venue fee or something.

more tech (i found this back in CS Extend, but never posted about it till now haha) https://twitter.com/shtkn/status/611769348030500864 loses to guardpoint stuff like yukikaze and noel's fenrir. i think you can react and punish backdash too, but i haven't tried as it's a pain to set up in training mode. basic reward off this is like 3k? not sure.

yeah, i figured it'd only work on non-short characters. i only tested on jin, pretty sure it won't work on anyone short like plat and carl, but it also might not work on semi short characters like noel, i'll have to test.

i have devastation and war, though the last few times i brought it i only brought devastation. let me know when you plan on going so i can remember to bring the game, otherwise it will sit on my bookshelf at home.

i ordered it online, though i don't get to use it much. i'm surprised you thought you could buy it from a brick and mortar store; this is a very niche game, and i wasn't exptecting it to have any retail presence. if you're in san diego, and interested, i can bring it to our anime fg weekly meetup friday nights at the salt mines.

on the topic of 6D, it definitely has more recovery in this game, goodbye high/low mixup in the corner. however you can get a safejump if you end the combo air hit 623C or air hit 22C. Hit them when their feet are at teh same height as jin's head.

this is the first i've heard of guard bonus activating even with gaps in it. i suppose it's possible, i've never done any tests with it and copied it over from a jp source ages ago. perhaps if the blockstring would have been gapless on normal block for 6 seconds, then guard bonus activates?

i recommend exposure therapy. play in more tournaments (and organize local ones!).
