  1. If anyone kills the fighting genre this time around, it is undoubtedly going to be Capcom. Street Fighter 4 pushes no doors and expands no concepts. It's just stupidly popular and really doesn't do anything with itself. MvC3....ugh. The best aspect of it is that it's gorgeous. ASW, Namco, everyone else finds ways to expand upon their old formula. Blazblue expanded on Guilty Gear (and even itself, as of CS2) , Tekken 6 expanded on Tekken 5, Soul Calibur 5 expands on Soul Calibur 4 (assuming, never played it but can see the system changes.) Capcom just sells whatever worked last time. That's probably why MvC3 is such a shitty game. It's MvC2 with 3D models for costume DLC -- still no obvious effort put towards character playstyle growth or true balancing. Just a bunch of random twitchy statefucks and mechanic exploits that they like to call "advanced maneuvers". SFxT is probably no different balance wise from MvC3.
  2. saw that like 5 characters and extra outfits are on the disc for later DLC. Am NOT buying this dumb shit. Capcom can go fuck themselves. Im so happy i didn't preorder this garbage. It's already a running joke that each game gets 2 months of release time before a "super version" is released with "new characters". But this time they didn't even try and hide the fact that they finished all of them (100% completely, voices and all) during the original development period and are just trying to milk their fanbase with more bullshit. All of this combined with the extremely questionable comeback mechanic and Gems addition (allowed on netplay, i do NOT trust Capcom enough to think it will have any sort of serious balance).... ....yeah, i'll just buy it when the "super" version comes out, where i can get all the on-disc-but-still-locked DLC faggots for less than a $60 preorder. You all should probably do yourselves the justice as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z61bsgAigpk&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHi2-7iCc80&feature=related Especially since i wanted Lars in the original roster anyway. Thankfully i can just wait for him now. Hopefully this kind of thing will clear up the complete bullshit regarding people's assumptions on XBL vs PSN. The biggest differences are firmware based imo.
  3. I never play ranked. Especially since the people who get the farthest on ranked are all shitty cheaters.
  4. Unlimited nu killed my beastly Abyss Ragna first time i got to Lv500 too. She's ridiculously fast, and if anyone actually goes into training mode with her, they actually buffed the shit out of her unlimited form it seems. I was lucky to get past Unlimited Hakumen with Mu, but luckly there are little tricks you can use. But by the time i got to Unlimited Hazama, the AI was doing that whole "LOL TRANSISTOR REACTION SPEED" bullshit where the moment i press an attack button i get a Space Kick or a DP > hungry coils. So, basically, fuck that. I was confident about beating everyone with Mu, but hazama is just ridiculous. I'll probably just get tager's ATK up again (LOL @ 6k B collider), equip auto-magnatize and just A Collider the game to death again.
  5. got to like battle 980 Unlimited Hazama Perfect'd me, said "fuck this shit" and probably wont start again for a while.
  6. When people start catching you out the air, it means they're reading you too easily. Air Grabs are one of the easiest way to stop someone from being sky happy all the time. When people start catching my attempts to escape, i usually try to completely alter my playstyle. Just try to mix up your mobility. I usually either mix up my placement/zoning and charging in during a match, so when people assume you're going to run away to setup steins, you can probably catch them while they're trying to catch you (air dashing towards you, trying to close distance) and get them to back off again. I think mu can do this pretty easy because of her 5C / j.C range. But like Zeromus said, some people who are relentless with their rushdown are somewhat difficult to fend off for me. Usually people get the message when their approaches fail and back up to avoid being caught in a damaging combo again (allowing you to safely set a few lasers up), but others don't give a shit and will just keep at you, which usually works on me because wiffing some attacks with mu is pretty bad.
  7. desperately hope this isn't a trend for the future of this game series. Good localization is what got me interested in this damn game in the first place. Otherwise i'd just pick it up, skip all the content and play online like i do every other fighter.
  8. What...the fuck did they do to Hazama? God dammit man. They could have taken another month or so and fixed this up. It's only Arcade Mode with the dead delivery and shit, right...?
  9. Wow. They're really holding no swings in the trolltastic destruction of that mascot, are they? IMO, that's taking it a bit too far. I highly doubt there is anyone who would actually be excited for boxart Megaman, and actually including "MEGA MAN" as a character without the actual "MEGAMAN" being there is just... To me, it's nothing but an indication that they honestly aren't going to take this game very serious, and it's probably going to end up like MvC3 in terms of gameplay integrity. I've never seen a company suicide their own mascot this bad. At least SEGA never actually intended for Sonic to be shit.
  10. Melee had depth to it that was most definitely planned by the creators. With the exception probably of wavedash Brawl DELIBERATELY had all depth removed. This is obvious to anyone who looks at the system mechanics of the game.
  11. Yes. Just because of chain revover.
  12. Noel is so braindead easy in CS2, you might as well just call her broken. Dunno about extend :3 I dont really have an issue with her, but honestly i dont even try against most Makoto mains on this game. She gets corner -> 4k off like any setup. I dont complain about her, but on netplay i just feel cheated half the time. Noel and Makoto are the only ones that tend to do that.
  13. Tager vs Anybody Why? Because I like Tager. I personally HATE fighting this matchup with anyone other than Mu though. I main a murakumo so my backdash pretty much lets me escape most of Tager's bullshit, but I can pretty much run the entire match until i get caught one good time and pretty much go from 100% -> critical or dead off a single fuckup. On a good day, that'd be hilarious and a damn good matchup. But on most days it's just annoying. Mu vs. Anyone who can get in my shit Not like this is a rare occurrence or anything, but rushdown's who don't let me so easily get distance on them make for pretty enlightening matches. On patient days this isn't so much of an issue, but on mashy days i get raped and can never seem to adjust. Ragna vs. Hazama Epic theme, story legit, and pretty interesting to me. Hazama zones, but his pressure can get ridiculous. Ragna's corner pressure is pretty godlike. Ragna has really low health and Hazama can dish out completely asinine damage off pretty much anything with 50 meter, but a good ragna can make hazama have a difficult time. It's just a fun matchup for me. I really do think Ragna and Hazama have my favorite fighting styles in the whole game. (Ragna being straight rushdown in your fucking face, and Hazama's chain throwing, zipping across the screen, throwing people through the air and tossing knives was just always badass to me.) I'd have a hardon for noel's fighting style too if you actually had to think to use it.
  14. I came from smash. Brawl, actually. I was one of those guys who was all "FUCK WAVEDASH AND TOURNYFAGS BRAWL IS AWESOME". Then i got into Guilty Gear (casual), was butthurt there was no RECENT version of Guilty Gear, and was turned to Blazblue instead. It was like a sign from the fighting game god, Blazblue was like a 3 weeks from coming out the moment i heard about it. So i got blazblue, the Limited Edition with the combo disc, got blown up, started to learn the in's and out's of the game, went back to brawl, realized they didn't work and HOLY SHIT the melee tourny fags were right. Melee was a 90381093813023910x better fucking game. Who knew. so now i run a decent Mu and am free to anyone who knows how to frame trap Oh, and Makoto. Because anyone who uses her on CS2 is a voluntary faggot.
  15. This matchup easily consists of the most 6C's you'll ever land in a real match.
  16. When i fight platinum i try to use my ranged stuff against her until i can get her on the floor, and then just rush the whore down until i can get her to a corner. There isn't much she can do against pressure unless she's got that bat or some meter. But once she has the bat, she gets alot of insurance when dealing with people. Even though it can rarely be combo'd from, it can knock you into positions you don't want to be in, like the blasted corner. Zoning is pretty pointless the moment she gets those missiles. They're fast, and will eat any projectile in their way. Cat Hammer also allows her extra reach to deal with projectiles and a free rushdown if it hits you. I rarely DP against Platinum unless i know it'll hit, because it feels like she has a ton of gimmicks to use when pressuring you -- swallow moon gimmicks on netplay are extremely annoying, kind of like an empty jump-in > low except worse because she gets to attack first and that split reaction doesn't translate well into packets. Be weary of how you approach her with attacks -- there isn't anything worth trading with a heartcar for IMO, and it has enough range to BS you out of alot of shit if they're smart with using it. It's pretty easy to toss one out at the right moments and watch people slide into the corner. Watch out for the command grab, which is a dangerous tool for anyone who has an ability to keep you blocking. But more than anything, if they aren't afraid to use it, make SURE you have a combo ready to deal with it, as it usually nets her in the air instead of the ground on CH. I dont fight many plats so i usually get destroyed the moment im pressured into a corner.
  17. If you're trying to jump away from command grabs on wakeup, remember that you cant not jump if you're barrier blocking IIRC. That might help. The only character i know I feel safe with backdashing out of Tager's face is Mu-12, and by derivative probably Lambda but i dont use her. And even with Mu's godly backdash, it's still risky if he knows you're gonna do it and goes for the sledge. I say you should only Backdash out of tager's face if you know he's using a move you can backdash away from. Which is like, what? 5a and 5B? Anything else gets you a tasty reset. Noel doesn't have many scary ways of making tager second-guess what he's going to do to you without meter. My advice is to pay attention to what he tries to get away with and react accordingly. Getting baited is never fun though. If he keeps catching you with 5C on gf, then you can take a faith leap and jab him out of it i think. but too much of that and you'll be eating 3/5k on wakeup, soooo I believe 4D will hit him out of anything other than a command grab...maybe. If he does a low attack it'll definitely hit you though, since 4D will be hit by any low attack.
  18. k no really, this game literally got me into fighting games. I was a SSBM/SSBB player who hated the Tournyfag geeks who needed a life. Then i bought Blazblue, went back to Brawl in college, realized i hated it, then played Melee again. Realized I had become a "tournyfag", to the shock of me and a few of my friends. ...Oh, yeah. Blazblue? Love this game. Since playing BBCT i've gotten into Tekken 6, SSF4, 3SO, MvC2 (i hate that game) and MvC3 (Honestly, reminds me of Brawl.) This game just truly feels unique to me. It feels like each character is truely their own. I've played a bit of Street Fighter 4, but it's honestly not my cup of tea. There are things about it that just really urk me. For example, one of the things I REALLY admire about ASW and BB is that they take steps to insure that their characters dont stray into exploit status. Like how Makoto quickly had her Space Parry loop was removed because it overshadowed alot of her versatility, or how characters are specifically given animations/moves with backwards hitboxes for mixup options (Litchi j.2D, Bang j.4C, Hazama j.B, blah blah) instead of relying on the usual method of animation mindfuck. Things like that just make blazblue feel so much more polished to me from a design standpoint than SF. Also, the game has been changing ALOT since it came out. The Corner Bound mechanic comes and everyone magically got their midscreen meterless damage options shot down from the previous updates (except for Makoto and Noel hint hint). IMO this helped encourage more versatile use of meter, as well as making people work on oki more. Many moves were given AUB attributes, encouraging more use of the Barrier Block. I've always liked the Grab system in blazblue more than other games -- since they're initiated by actual animations, and it gives you visible confirmation, they feel much more solid and reliable. But most importantly, it feels like with each new rebalance, characters seem to be altered in order to further give them a more specific strength in battle. CS2 Ragna =/= CS1 ragna. Same animations, different character. His whole moveset focus now is getting you to the corner and keeping you there. Bang is all about versatility and pressure, Tao for confusion, lambda has changed from only zoning to now actually breaking defense, ect ect. Also, with each new rebalance, it's easy to notice that characters are also being molded to use their ENTIRE movesets now. Noel and Tsubaki can damn near use their entire movesets in combos now. Ragna can also makes use of all of his moves now as well (and they all send you straight to the corner). Combo loops are becoming more and more rare as well. i think most fighters can learn a thing or two from blazblue. I started playing Tekken 6, and ive fallen in love with that game as well. It feels like it's changed a shitton through the years. The new bound system in 6, combined with the hitbox crushing in 5 makes me like it the same reasons i like Blazblue. 40 wonderfully animated characters, each with pretty large movesets, but each move feels like it has its place in battle thanks to specific properties and combo /juggle opportunities. This game isn't as popular because it's a bit more niche than a game like Street Fighter which has been around forever and isn't 2D in 2011, which few people seem to really appreciate. Which is a pity to me, seeing as this is one of the best localization jobs i have ever seen in a japanese game of this nature. Also, Blazblue has a terribly steep learning curve. But I believe this game probably has the best Tutorial mode ive ever seen in a fucking fighting game. Ever. tl;dr; this game is crack yo
  19. Is it sad that i actually thought this was real Honestly, capcom is so gdlk at trolling the fans, i wouldn't put it past them haha
  20. A bit more matchup exp... I find this matchup annoying mostly because trading with Lambda almost always ends in her favor. Trade with D, end up staggered. Trade with any of her specials, and you're on the ground or something. Trade with any of her SUPERS, and you're eating a combo + oki. She has alot of holes in all of her strings, but it feels like you have to literally fish and get lucky to make anything of it. ALL of her D's have blantant openings, but the consequences of guessing them wrong lands you in places you never want to be.
  21. If you let hazama lock you down with chains, you're just going to have a really, really hard time. Try to feel him out and stop him from doing it, which is pretty hard to do since his chains are faster than most of your moves. AAing him is difficult too, because by the time you reach him he's on the other side of the screen attacking you again, and if you try and catch him out the air, you'll probably, at best, trade with a chain. and speaking of chains, it's hard to ever get a laser off because of how easy it is for him to make you block. and even when you throw out a 236D, it's pretty easy for him to still throw chains and probably not get hit with it. And everything gets worse when he has meter. I guess you just have to gain momentum and keep it rolling throughout the battle. Make him guess your gameplan, set your steins carefully and make sure you put them to decent use. And by god, if he gets predictable with 3C/DP fishing, 6C CH his ass and put him in the corner.
  22. That move would be completely unfair if it were only able to be grabbed out of. Edit: derp, ment Litchi's 6B w/staff
  23. Litchi for me is another case of someone challenging Mu's range advantage. in my experience 6B is probably the most dangerous thing i can get from litchi, as any CH is pretty much a guarnteed easy 3.4k i think. When her staff is gone though, it gets a bit easier to deal with.
  24. my main strat for this matchup is to simply try not to let Lambda get her way. If she's summoning crap left and right and getting away with it, then she's getting her way and it's probably only a matter of time before you finally find an opening with one red glowing explosive primer left and then you blow up and die. Arrows of Heaven, like with pretty much every other matchup, should give you time to put out at least ONE stein if she isn't doing the backwards spinny wheel thing. It's hard to rely on the lasers because blocking cancels them from firing. I'd say Lambda is definitely the better zoner here, since mu has to actually set crap up. Dont quote me, but im pretty sure her swords are incapable of hitting you from fullscreen. But getting to her is really the main issue here. 6C fishing pays out very well, but i dont rely on it because her shit is just too damn slow. I just feel this matchup is honestly a case of whoever gets the ball rolling first. Once you eat one of lambda's combos you're fair game for her annoying oki options, and likewise during a combo is the safest time to setup steins for Mu, which gives you time to lock her down with lasers. Either way, I feel like Mu's range is her greatest asset but is rendered utterly useless/risky in this situation. Try to get steins out near her so you can pop them / 236D when you need a breather.
  25. Yeah, All the sudden everyone wants to use Mu. It's astounding. I kind of stopped using Mu alot because NOBODY on netplay ever picks her. I get no inspiration unless i lose with every other character. As a result i probably suck alot more than i should with her. I hope she isn't going to be the new Noel. Because then i will never touch her again.
