Montreal: Le Thread Generale Pour Weeaboo Fighters
pochp replied to BladeOfJustice7's topic in International
Hmmm guess I should say something. Between being rather busy with work and several things that happened (excluding the knife completely), I just don't have as much motivation and time to organize events there. Except one week where I fucked up, I try to avoid hosting on a Tuesday, I don't want to discourage people from going to Foonzo, but I realize it also has this effect (not many ppl come compared to at foonzo, but then ppl expect less ppl to show up at foonzo, and it's kind of a catch 22 at this point). Considering I can't host the same numbers, as well as the fact that some people don't want to or can't go to foonzo any more, the solution isn't easy. Anyway, lets have a meetup at foonzo this tuesday, but I don't even know if I can make it. Not sure if we're hosting this week either, since thursday and friday nights are out because we're going to Summer Jam. -
Hey, I've been playing this character a bit. Have a few questions on things that haven't been discussed here that much, I think. -close to corner 6b combo (too far for 214a 214b 3c), I do 6b 214a 214b 236b 3c 214b. I feel like you could get more without spending meter, any ideas? (too far for 3c j.a/b/c? at this point). I mean I could do a 6b 2a link, but I like the 6b 214a 214b frametrap, better on block. -22c oki I feel is solid in a few situations, like after a midscreen throw. It allows you to run up and do a high/low mixup with fastest 6d j.a. Any ideas to combo off of it consistently, in midscreen or corner? I do something like late 5b 214b 2c 4c 214b (iirc, but logically that shouldn't work, maybe it's 5b 3b? anyway it seems far from optimal) -blockstrings, I don't feel comfortable enough yet to get creative well, but I feel like general rules are (some stuff was already mentioned in Psyken's post) : frametrap with 5a/2a into 5c/4c/2c or any b/c into 214a 214b 236b chaining into a mixup is either 6b/4c2a/2c214a, the pause and animations are similar since the character is standing. can reset pressure with 214x214b 236a/b 22c in the corner. midscreen they can backdash it. Cancelling any blocked normal into 22c is also good in the corner. If they panic and jump block you get a sweet combo. I wait for it to end, position myself, then 5c. 236a/b 214c is a strange alternative, 214c seems plus and much faster, so it serves a similar purpose midscreen. Pushes them too far away to reset pressure, but incites disrespect you can beat with 236a/b? I usually like starting with either 5a or 2a and keeping the other for a reverse beat whiff into potential pressure reset. rising j.a is great, even if it hits mid, you can chain into j.c j.214b for frame advantage into a throw/throw bait mixup (and know how to beat the anti air/throw tech OS if they use it). bad if they have meter for a reversal though. I feel like using B normals in a blockstring is kind of a waste, unless you're just trying to push them away and make yourself safe without leaving any gaps for reversals. 3c seems gimmicky but you can make it whiff with the right spacing and take advantage of the confusion? and using that, here are a few patterns that I mostly stick to : (optional 5a) 4c 2a 5c 2c 214a 214b 5a 4c will frametrap, 2a whiffs if it hits as a hitconfirm and you get a nice combo 4c 2a is a nice low mixup can reset pressure after the blocked 2a, blockstun is short and maybe unexpected. 2a 5c is also a frametrap so if they think you'll reset, counterhit that you can hitconfirm with 2c into 214b etc? you can pretty much chain into an overhead at any point, but 2a 6b, 5c 6b, 2c 6b are all slightly tricky to block if you're not predictable, since you can also do a standing low/frametrap at these points. if you don't use the 5a, (ex : meaty 4c, or 22c 6da blocked 4c) you can rebeat into it later instead of 2c 214a frame trap. 2a dash 2aa 5c 2c 5a/214a -similar concept, ppl tend to mash 2aa 5c, then easily confirmed adding some rising j.a and j.2c j.214b into the mix, and throws to beat shield attempts, and it seems pretty solid. What patterns do you guys use, and am I missing something important? (atm I feel like I need to prepare patterns, if not I get lost in which normal I can still use, or try to delay chains too much when trying to react to whether or not there was a hit and then nothing comes out which can be really bad) as an example of how this can be pieced together, I notated a long string from a jp match video : rising j.a j.214b 2a j.2c j.214b 4c 2aa 5c 2c 214a 214b 236b 22c 6d j.a 4c 2aa 5c 5a 5a 3c whiff (?) 2c 5c 5a 6b 214a 214b 236a : https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=GAFPsrH2dM4&t=41m28s -Air to air, you guys have any advice? I hope I'm wrong and missing something, but I feel like it's not worth it to try to challenge many other characters in situations where we're both around the same height or if they're higher. Air shield is ok, but sometimes there's no way to capitalize on a successful shield, or is there something consistent? I try j.a j.c etc. but it doesn't seem solid. 5b has the most range out of our normals I think, so prob not. I use 236a (then 236c on hit). Rarely actually gets blocked imo, since it whiffs on crouch. Either they get hit or nothing happens. Either way at that spacing 236a is ok on block. Also about that OS, you can do something similar with 5a 5c j.2c j.214a etc. where 5a 5c frametraps and combos on hit, so if either of them hit you get this nice combo, and if not, delayed 2c 214a comes out, which is good on block as well. Felt smart in training mode but I haven't tried it in a match yet, lol.

Mu is OK. Tournaments, especially single elim 2v2 like arc revo, can really go either way, and the character isn't that popular (I think). Don't forget that last year, Abarenger (Oboron) got 3rd, and Gilgamesh (Hoan) also made it. Even outside of Japan, I think Ixis is placing well consistently in EU tournaments, Tectal won CEO, I got 2nd at Toryuken...

not going to foonzo today, just as a heads up if ppl still go bring copies of uniel if you want to play that. -
Just to clarify, 6c has no more stein cancels, not just 5d. Source : https://twitter.com/srzaasuka/status/497425663482003456 I like these changes. So far neutral looks the same, but pressure and midscreen rewards seem weaker, with stronger mixup?? Seeing as most characters are getting toned down, these make sense. Also, only the first loketest.

heyyy so we're planning our trip to summer jam, wondering if we should book one or two rooms, and take one or two cars? So far, it's me, brice, derq, greenix, level5, kazuhiro? We'd prob leave friday morning and return monday afternoon. I posted an initial interest check a while ago, and I'd like to book our rooms tonight before they run out. So if you're interested speak up asap, preferably here : http://www.sankishin.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=287 -

yeah there should be casuals before and after (maybe during) the tournament, well it kind of depends on who can bring setups or copies. I'll bring mine at least. Worst case, bb/gg casuals on the side? HQ plan not looking likely to happen atm maybe the new cabs at foonzo will change that. -

Yo, I'd like to start running weekly or biweekly tournaments again. Tuesdays is the most likely, as Sundays we share the space with MK/Injustice (I don't think they come on tuesdays unless someone can correct me?), and RIP Thursdays. UNIB and BBCP are obviously going to be run, but I would like to somehow fit in AH3LM and GGXX+R (and maybe p4u2 when it comes out). Format would be random teams 2v2 single elim, because on a weekday I want the fastest format, it's also lots of fun (you guys remember when we did this back in cs2/extend). However to keep it somewhat competitive, we'll still track points. Something like (we can adjust the system if ever, since we'll still have the tournament results) 1 : 4 points each 2 : 3 points each 3 : 2 points each, both teams 1 point to everyone else Points will be used to seed monthly/bimonthly tournaments (haven't had one in a while now that I think of it). Maybe even this one, so top ranked players don't end up in the same team. The idea is just to kind of give people an objective to practice for, especially for those who don't travel. It would be great if we could stream but I dunno how we'd set it up with the layout we have atm. I'm also assuming someone (maybe me) could bring a console so we can have a 4th station on the other evo monitor. So anyway, assuming foonzo will be open this Tuesday, let's not waste any time and start this week! We'll take sign ups for UNIB, BB, GG, and AH3, and run teams for whatever has at least 6 entrants, and singles for 4 or 5, if it's 3 we can do a round robin, and 2 well I guess an exhibition if the players feel like it. Free entry of course. -

Welcome! HQ plans aren't so sure atm, but besides foonzo we also have meetups at people's places sometimes. Make an acc on http://www.sankishin.com/board/index.php and join the chat to come talk with us, always nice to have new people join. -

I felt like we had much more room at the HQ (since there weren't a bunch of other customers), assuming groups have different meetup nights or something. Yeah, but then it kind of sucks if you just want to play and you're not hungry nor feeling like drinking. A soft drink every few hours doesn't count. If it's like the HQ, it would be like a membership thing, where you pay a certain amount for unlim access during a certain period of time. Maybe they'll also have a pay at the door thing, at the HQ it was 5$ for a day, or a certain amount I can't remember for 6 months. Maybe Brice, Sophisticat, or Kazuhiro remember? -

There are talks of a new HQ with MTLSF, they wanted to know if we were interested. It would be located near Cote Vertu metro, and the amount of space is the same as the HQ. It would cost somewhere between 25$ and 50$ a month per person, depending on how many are interested. They wanted an approximation of how many of us would be interested, by next week. So... who is interested? I don't know exactly what's going on with Foonzo besides that we lost our privilege on Thursday night. They were closed for renovations this week, so I'm not sure what those imply for us, but we were planning on maybe going Sunday (so come by if you want to try UNIB). @Livewire : it's fun, the characters don't seem too complicated yet, but there are a lot of mechanics and they are quite complicated to use well. atm I still completely forget to use most of them (shield, veil off, anything related to grd use) -

5pm mesemble a moins que brice change de plans. Pis c good, on peut accomoder au moins 4 personnes pour dodo. -
heyyy so I made a new video with stuff I was going to use at evo, but didn't because I injured myself the week before, and couldn't practice them enough to be confident because it hurt too much to play lol. There's a few mistakes in it but eh... with unib coming out I doubt I'll get the motivation to fix it anyway. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5couBs33eI (oh and in case it's blocked in your country, I made another version with alternate audio, I just really wanted to make a video with setups to megadeth's wake up dead : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnUui0h5QZc )

I might host some bb this week. Not monday cause I already have plans, but I'll let you guys know. Also, concerning UNiB, who's playing who? Maybe compiling a list will help those of us who don't know who to play find a matchup we're missing and help out that way. So far... Brice - Waldstein
