That's fair though, since Chipp has to spend resources to use it. @Tekken - Same. If I like it, I'mma play it. -

When you can destroy my maziodyne pseudo mix-up because you have the ability to punish from fullscreen, that's kind of dumb. Glitch, design oversight, they're all the same thing in the end and it'll hopefully get removed since they took it out of Blazblue. -

It isn't contradictory, or at least it shouldn't be. I edited for clarity, though I'm not thinking entirely clearly right now. A collective will isn't easy to control, but with a quality game you WILL be able to maintain a decent competitive scene. But for the most part scenes are going to be ever-shifting in popularity for the silliest of reasons. You can't control other people without a powerful impetus like a quality game with major levels of hype, and even then it's a crap-shoot. These shifts will occur in phases, and when the market dies down people will settle on the tried and true games they remember, a la Guilty Gear. What I promote is the drive to improve, and that tends to revolve around the largest group of people with that motivation and the games they play. Sometimes you can influence them to stick with a quality game, sometimes you just have to go along for the ride and hope that your game of choice survives the long investment. As for people having issues with design, these are things I'm hearing from Star, who hears it from other skilled players in the Blazblue community. A few of them think it's trash, a few of them will play it til CP, a few of them may stick with it, I don't even know. Personally I enjoy the game and haven't been experiencing any bullshit aside from the weird Persona phasing issue where they seemingly randomly decide to take bursts and hits for the character, and Yosuke's glide glitch. I get that this pisses you off, but you have to realize that it comes with the territory of being part of the FGC. They will dictate your fighting experience, be they your local scene or the broader community. This is why I can't rely on new people or growing my community. Most people don't WANT to grow. Like I said before, people have their own reasons for playing. For the most part it involves super casual "let's-play-for-fun" gaming. Those people that challenge me and help me improve, the ones that really have something to teach me are few and far between. Yeah, you can learn from anyone, but there's a huge limit to what you can get from people without the hunger for competition. I'll clarify again in simpler terms, since apparently that's the only way I can lay out my thoughts properly. - The majority of players will switch to each new game, not because it's a new game, but because it interests them. They WANT to play it. They'll also want to play the next new game. So on and so forth. - There will typically be a decent sized section of players still playing solid games. If there isn't, the game either wasn't good enough to hold their attention, or there's too many games AT THE MOMENT to distract them. This is temporary. - Eventually players will return to a quality game in favor of the newer games that have lost their interest. - If there's a game you REALLY like, it's your job to hype it the fuck up and recruit new players, to train them up and stay loyal. If your game is worth it, players new and old will come. - The FGC as a whole will be whimsical, but oh well. Life goes on. Your concern should lie with the players you want to face. -

Meh. Tekken being considered hard as fuck to level up in is one of the main draws it has for me. I was referring to that article when I was pointing that out. As for people migrating, of course we're going to be whimsical. Half the old community with skill is shunning Persona because of some issues with design and balance decisions, or so I've heard. It's extremely accessible, it's fun, it's flashy. But if everyone that I hone my skills with is going to be migrating, there's little point sitting on a game I won't be able to play my best in, that I won't be able to continually grow with. Not to mention that yes, this market is saturated. Playing one game then hopping to the next isn't about being tided over. There's no way to get competitive in new games that interest you if you're splitting your time between every game you enjoyed in the past and the newest one that the skilled people in your area are playing. Of course we're subject to the whims of the general FGC. They're what decides what game gets huge, they're what makes up our competition. They're the whetstone that we're meant to sharpen our fangs on, and even though a lot of them are 'sheep' they sometimes squeeze out gold. It's inevitable that people will move on. It's what they do. It's up to us to play what we will, to keep certain scenes worth it alive. That's why Guilty Gear is still kicking, if barely, even after all of these transitory phases. Quality will always find competition, and the summer blockbusters will be forgotten. It's the natural selection of the FGC. Star, I think you need to get it together, honestly. You may not like everything about Persona. Some parts of it may frustrate you. But it still has things to offer you. People will be brain dead in any game. There are ways around that. If there aren't, it's either a flaw in your character, a flaw in the game, or a flaw in your playstyle. It's up to you to either get around that, or focus on playing the people who you do enjoy matches with. If even battling thinking opponents manages to piss you off, well that's somethin' you'll need to work on yourself. I can understand you having doubts, but I can't see you giving up, honestly. You're one of the people that has that drive to continue, that hunger for growth that I love to go up against in a match. If you decide to quit, that's on you. But either do it or don't. If you continue, those feelings of doubt are transient, they're obstacles for you to overcome. If you decide not to continue, you need to just get it over with. Either way, use them to push yourself along the path that's best for you. Other than that, there's no reason at all to consider anything about a game that enrages you. Play the game or move on. Insert extra anime inspired emotional bullshit. Do you, bro. -

Depends. I haven't played a Tekken since 3, and that was before I took fighters seriously. Based on how it feels, it might be one of the games I want to get competitive in. Right now I'm looking at playing UNiB, P4A, and TTT2 seriously. In P4A it seems my niggas I train with might drop it for BB, and CP will probably renew my love for Blazblue even though I'm not really hyped for it as it stands. I've read that Tekken is one of the hardest fighters to progress from mid to high level play, and that seems pretty exciting. The action looks brutal and satisfying, and the characters are interesting. I feel like Yoshimitsu has a metric fuck ton of potential and he'll be extremely fun to play. -

In that case, how would you feel about letting me borrow your copy? I can understand if not, but I promised to get my friend a copy of P4A, so there's no way I'm getting my hands on this game anytime soon. -

Double post cuz' Tekken deserves it. Is anyone gonna be bringing TTT2 to the next tournament? Watching some footage and I really want to play this game now. Not sure who I want to play, looking at Lars, King, Armored King, and Yoshimitsu. Shit looks hella hype. -

I'VE BEEN VALIDATED, YO. YOU CAN'T TAKE THAT FROM ME. But nah, I meant from past Yukiko performance. It seemed to me average Yukikos were doing everything right, they were just playing low tier, and I never really cared enough to watch Japanese Yukiko. Then I got a good set with SRZ in and saw the truth. The thing is, Liz and Yukiko are heavily momentum based. Yukiko's just got a really strong neutral game where she gains momentum easily, and once she has it it's very difficult to break that steamroll. Granted I'm not the best Liz, but I'm no slouch, and it was really difficult to make her sweat. Once I got the ball rolling she was a lot easier to fight, but it's like being a little kid rolling the ball with two hands vs a bowling pro. Yeah, I'd say it's safe to say Mitsuru vs. Elizabeth is actually 6-4 due to damage and Mitsuru's weird ass hitboxes. Elizabeth vs. Yukiko is 5-5 or 4.5-5.5 4.3333-5.6666, imo. We both get damage, she has an advantage at neutral, she has better reversal potential, and we both start wrecking shit once we establish momentum. -

I'm starting to think Yukiko might not be as low tier as we've been led to believe. Her Persona is actually hard to break if utilized properly, her normals are -excellent-, especially 2A, and her unblockable set-ups aren't actually that hard to get off, because you can get two or three levels in a single knockdown. In the hands of a skilled player, she's a freaking ridiculously deadly weapon. Her zoning is excellent; she can and will keep you EXACTLY where she wants you, her flames are persistent so even punishing her is risky, and her fans are quick and accurate. She's also got damage. Why does every low tier have damage yo?! I know that everyone is supposed to be viable, but I'm starting to think she might not even be B tier. Maybe she has bad match-ups, but when she can molest Liz and Mitsuru I don't know wtf is going on. Either way, SHADOWREDzero is a god. -

S rank at last. . . Off of an S rank Mitsuru to boot. @Kain: I laid out the methods of getting through her pressure in my previous posts. Labrys has some pretty good normals, if I can do it as Mitsuru's best match-up, I've got faith that you can do the same. She's typically going to charge coup droit whilst pouncing on you with her sliding sweep, sweep feints into throws, or sweep feints into instant overheads for dp baiting. They also like to sweep feint, jump over you, back air dash and overhead you. Try and block it, but don't sweat it if you can't; they can't really combo off of it. They'll also try and nail you with JC and JC cross-ups if they're especially tricky, but it takes a second to pull Artemisia out and if you can predict it a 2B will net you a nice punish. Not sure if Labrys' sweep counts as low profiling, but if it does you can use it to hit her -under- her 5A. Your job is to try and figure out which one she's going to do, and if they're even skilled enough to realize that's what they should be doing. If she's sitting there charging coup droit, you need to buff up your reaction times til you can dp the instant she releases. Be ready to punish whiffed tick throws, poorly spaced coup droits, and dp the fuck out of her if she does a slow 4/5/6B (They're all the same, just move her in different directions and different distances depending on how long it's held) Her only safe coup droits are coup droit b fully charged and ex coup droit. Anything else is punishable whilst improperly spaced. I want to see you smashing their toes with 2A when this happens, I'm sure Labrys' is fast enough for the job. If not, you can throw her out of it on block. Remember to prioritize blocking low; you can see AoA's coming from a mile away and react accordingly, and they have a hard time comboing off of jb (I think it's that one, whichever aerial points down) unless they rapid cancel or wait until they're deep in your face to press it, in which case you should've already 2B'd by then. A large chunk of her damage comes from her sweep into coup droit. It's like 2.5k or so on its own, pushes you into the corner, and nets her oki. If your 2A is fast enough, catch Mitsuru -in the air- after a dp - that way she can't even attempt to super cancel and you get a combo. Right after that 2A catch is the best time to bait bursts, that's when they're like OHFUCKI'MNOTSAFEOHGODBUTTONS. Then lay into her to your heart's content. Not too sure about Labrys's match-up specifically, but with her excellent normals you shouldn't really be having that much trouble getting in. Her JB is probably the most godlike normal in the game. It's all about reading the Mitsuru you're fighting. There's really only one optimal approach for her (went over this with Star, Mitsuru really is that shallow Jackie), and if they don't know how then it should be a simple matter of punishing stupid mistakes, because they WILL make them. Be patient, buff up them block skills, and you'll start recognizing the holes in her pressure yourself. It's all in practice. GL. edit: Added in a bit more stuff as I remembered it. If you ever need to get some more MU experience, hop on PSN and throw me or Star a message for an invite. We'll be happy to get you up to speed. edit 2: Apparently all of this should be disregarded as it mostly pertains to the match-up with Liz, lols. I figured she'd have the same general pressure against everyone else. Star should be able to help you out a lot better. -

Mitsuru, Chie, Labrys, Narukami, and Yukiko can all do this full screen. Kanji can within a stricter range, Yosuke and Teddie have to be practically in your face. Akihiko's leads me to believe it can be done depending on range, but it's a bit slow to tell for sure. Naoto's is unreliable, Aegis' is aerial and therefore only the crappiest oki ever would be rejected. Elizabeth's just blows, fuck her mortal blow. But I'm thinking it's more of an issue of improperly locking my opponent down. I just could've sworn at the time that the laser was on her face before she'd even woken up, meaning she'd have to receive invincibility on frame 1. Not exactly sure how to go about testing this, though. -

A lot of my knowledge actually comes from a few really good players that I face daily. It isn't just handed to me, though; I figure it out by asking questions, challenging logic I don't agree with, and most of all facing them in matches myself, as well as watching them fight each other. They've already come up with a more accurate tier list; there are just a few things to iron out, people to discuss it with, then it'll be solid. Aegis is definitely the best character in the game; she's got un-reactable mix-ups + damage. I don't see how that can even be disputed. Discussion never gets old to me because if someone proves me wrong I'll be that much more prepared for the next one. If they don't, hopefully they learned something from it. -

Thanks, you seem to know your shit as well. I agree with most everything you've stated, and haven't done enough homework to disagree with any of it - I think Yosuke can get a bit more damage than everyone gives him credit for. I just don't know enough about him yet. -

In the hands of a skilled player, every single character's weaknesses besides Yukiko and perhaps Naoto(depending on the MU) are difficult to expose. Every character in the game is strong. Yukiko just has a shitty Persona. Mitsuru isn't an all around character; she has strengths and she has weaknesses. The only real all around strong character would be Narukami. His dp mindgame outclasses hers because it's a legit anti-air and he can super cancel in the air. When it comes to Mitsuru, there are multiple answers to one of her most touted strengths. -

Evasive action past her dp; mindgame averted, initiate punishment. Punish her dp by catching her in the air with a fast normal before she lands; mindgame averted, intiate punishment. Block her pressure and seek holes. They do exist, you just have to block. Her neutral game is decent, not amazing. Lots of exploitable holes. Slide past her anti-zoning tools and punish if you have the frames or bait dp if you don't. Get in her face and utilize your normals, that's what they're there for. She can't do much to you when you're on top of her. Bait guard cancel, receive punish. She's not hard to deal with, she just takes practice and there's only a couple Mitsurus skilled enough to legitimately learn the match-up from. -

A+. Nowhere to go but up. Just wish I'd get matches faster. :@ And yeah, it feels so good to rank people down, especially when they're bad match-ups. I've downloaded this one Mitsuru and dragged him out of A+, and he used to be S. Baiting his bursts and punishing him for 6k feels too good. -

I get exactly what you're saying. I know the whole risk reward deal, it's a staple of fighters. I'm just saying some characters benefit more from it (like Elizabeth) She's ALL about risking everything for that gimmicky set-up or tricky mix up. I just don't see how it could help Mitsuru, since in the end all you have to do is -block- it and wait for an opening. The riskier your approach with her, the more holes there are and the more you waste what makes her A tier. But in the end I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree, since neither of us truly understand Mitsuru. For all we know, Star might be cooking something up right now that will surprise me and validate your point. @Milln: -Flourish, bow.- edit - Finally got out of my PSR rut and got my A rank back. Time for S. -
