  1. But I wasn't rating effectiveness in damage. In the end, new oki set-ups will have your opponent blocking just as much as they did before. Switching up your approach might be surprising initially, but mostly you'll just open holes in your offensive which make your pressure no longer dp safe. You'll sacrifice damage for the same end that you'd've gotten with your old oki set-up, and the surprise will only work once, and even that is unreliable. Uncommon moves might be more helpful, but the moveset in Persona is actually quite small. Each has their own individual use. Oki set-ups are for initiating block strings and thereby rock-paper-scissors games, or punishing mash. It doesn't make sense to try and surprise an opponent mid combo unless they've got poor observation skills, in which case your tactics are wasted over-kill.
  2. I think you'd end up gimping yourself if you tried to diversify certain character's play styles just for the sake of uncovering potential. Some characters are just as they appear, and there isn't much more to them than that. Granted, discoveries might still be made, but for the most part Mitsuru's going to stay the way she is or risk harming her own effectiveness.
  3. Yeah, Yosuke's got a very diverse range of playstyles, tricks, gimmicks and what-have-you. Mitsuru is rather straightforward. The only difference I ever see between Mitsurus is how often they coup droit and how they use bufu, and there's only so many different ways to use it. Honestly the only thing that holds Yosuke back from being S tier is his health.
  4. The example you used involved a character with a lot more potential than Mitsuru(this coming back to the original point), and the way you said it MIGHT have come across as assuming Star used a copy and paste playstyle instead of developing his own. It might have come across as him not trying to delve as hard into his main's potential as you did. I'm not picking sides this time, just playing devil's advocate before you go at each other's throats. In any case, Elizabeth is rather the same in that regard. She just never feels boring because instead of worrying about the match-up, she's more about picking your opponent's brain. I can go toe to toe with Star's Mitsuru, but the instant I'm met with one who just kinda seems to do things, I'm lost. This is why I'm stuck at 653 PSR, people just kinda seem to say I'VE GOT TOOLS and throw them out constantly, a la Labrys JB. And they get S rank for it. I think in the end, you have to look at it like this - Don't seek satisfaction from playing the character match-up right, get it from the player match-up. That or find a new main.
  5. That moment when if the third countered hit for Liz's instant kill is Yu's dp, it doesn't hit. wtf. Super canceling anything into ziodyne also seems to give him priority. Oh, and dping right AFTER the third hit touches the counter works too. Hooray for useless ultimates. (Not even being sarcastic.) Sorry Jackie! ...That moment when a scrub Labrys runs up and grabs you four times on wake-up, you see every single one coming, and none of your techs go through.
  6. Mitsuru and he's good, though I feel confident against him were we to play offline. Played Kain, played Jackie and he complimented me, played DaxManInEffect(from street fighter crowd) and found a new Yosuke bro because GRIMSTAR IS PLAYING FUGGIN' DISGAEA LIKE A DIRTBAG, I created a new fatal counter combo and it is the most efficient midscreen one currently available for Brosuke, I realized I lack character matchup knowledge vs. Shadow Labrys, I am hella disappointed in EX Dash Spring not allowing me to beat an.... A...? Rank Elizabeth because the thing didn't phase through Maziodyne like it should've so i'm double checking that ish right now, caused the rank down of two players, prevented my own, and started at F- trash rank and ended up with 306 PSR and a comfortable B Rank. Now to watch those replays and beat the crap out of myself for being an idiot and letting my hands do the work instead of my brain. People fall victim to my fake crossups way more than I think they should... but then again maybe I actually came up with something great and useful for once instead of raw Kensou NeoMax vs. Jump ins. I think there's a bit of vulnerability in the initial frames, as I've nailed a few Brosukes just as they went for it. In any case, netplay is tickin' me off. I can barely find any opponents on ranked, I'd be screwed if it weren't for the good ol' psn crew. We need to have another MTN room on psfree sometime.
  7. DON'T GIVE THIS GUY PSR, MILLN. I TRAINED YOU BETTER THAN THAT. YOU MUST OVERCOME THE CHANDLER FACTOR WITH THE HEART OF THE CARDS.
  8. JUST HOWLING IN ZA SHADOOOOOOOWWWWWWZUHHHHH. we gettin all kinds of weeaboo up in this
  9. Ho-ly shit. What is it about alcohol that makes people start spewing their deepest emotional trip-ups or showing their true asshole colors to strangers? I figured I should try socializing more, get out of my comfort zone, and it actually went pretty well. Then at the end of night I had to play armchair therapist with like half the people there, and the other half felt like they had something to prove. Apparently those dudes were cool people, but I get massive douchebag vibes from people who ignore the host's rules when they're invited somewhere. I thought parties were where you were supposed to ease out of the stress of life and unwind, not regurgitate them onto random people and bring down the mood. And me being the sucker I am, I can't stand seeing someone down so I feel the need to help them. I think next time if I'm invited and it's not just a chill circle of people I know, I'll just stay in my little bubble and play vidya. /rant I'm not trying to be an asshole, I just always assumed it was common courtesy to keep your personal issues to yourself, for both your sake and others'. edit 2: Looking back, I'm realizing I do pretty much the same thing to you guys on a lesser scale. But idgaf, y'all are family whether you like it or not. Just tell me when to stfu.
  10. Except that if you get put in the corner against another Liz, it's your own fault. You can react to her dp with your own, you can reject her pressure, and you can zone out Thanatos and drag her into your space. Once you are in the corner it's purely a matter of reading your opponent. There's an answer to every tool in Liz's arsenal, and they're given to every single character in the game. You don't need great defensive tools to air dash, super jump air-dash, roll, or -block-. You just have to know what your opponent is thinking, which is one of the requisite skills for playing Elizabeth anyway. I really only said it was dumb because you're essentially trying to trap each other in the exact same ways, so it boils down to luck/who's the more experienced player, and at the time I'd never had to deal with another Liz before. Her normals actually have decent speed; her only slow move is 5B which you shouldn't be trying to use as a poke anyway.
  11. I'll fight ya. But sigh. . .That moment when you only lose against an S rank Mitsuru because you try to be tricky with them thinking they'll block your pressure, so you miss your throws AND hit-confirms. I gotta stop over-estimating people.
  12. I've got obligations and shit, but who all's going to fight night next week? I might be able to make it. Hype as hell for the 15th yo.
  13. I wouldn't be so annoyed by the ranking system if I didn't have to wait like 20 minutes for a quality match.
  14. I wouldn't put it like that, but there is some truth in there. People shun quality games for the dumbest of reasons. It's fine if something doesn't suit your tastes, but don't lambast it and deter curious players from trying it out for fear of the stigma of being an "xx player". And on the same hand, the niche fighter communities like to shoot themselves in the feet constantly, ala Mitsuru jeering at tournaments and shit talking players from other fighters. It's a really dumb situation. /rant
  15. I'll claw my way the top eventually. P4U/UNiB Volpe. I'm comin' for ya. :@ Also, when are team doubles coming back, if ever?
  16. Oh no, that isn't for me. I just thought it was interesting that DC posted what his sponsorship contract looked like. Maybe one day, if I get the shot.
  17. I realized all that; I just originally thought the requirement of the player was pretty much always exposure and advertising for the sponsor, and the money was theirs to keep. It makes sense, I'm not arguing against that, I'm just saying it cleared up the nature of such a contract. I worded my original post rather poorly, because it's not actually a bad deal imo. I'd definitely accept.
  18. Looking on it again, it's really all I'd need; fuck the money, I want to fight niggas all over and get better. I don't know any other way to play, and I don't see how anything changes just because you're broadening the range of your opponents. I'd rather progress than stagnate.
  19. That sad moment when I learned sponsorships weren't all I thought they were cracked up to be. https://p.twimg.com/A10ieeHCYAAn9gv.jpg:large Still, it seems good for getting experience; they let you go wherever and enter whenever if you aren't sweating the monies.
  20. Really nice Chie, man. I'm already calling GGs and we just started. Hope you can make it up next weekend.
  21. You still playin' BB? We'd set up some games if we still had it, man. We switched to P4A for now. I think Woz still has Extend, tho.
  22. This is up on reddit. Anyone willing to help generate some hype/interest for it with a bit of time on their hands should make a reddit account and upvote this post so it gets more exposure. Registering is quick and painless, so get hype! http://www.reddit.com/r/Fighters/comments/yokx6/oct_13t14_2250_bonus_king_of_bling_tournament/
  23. It's not that it's bad, it's that for the most part it's two Liz's trying to do exactly the same thing to each other to punish/get mix-up. She has tools for dealing with other Elizabeths, it wouldn't make any sense for her not to be able to deal with herself. It's just a dumb fight cuz it's more frustrating than fun when you're holding each other off and struggling for momentum.
  24. Mapquested that shit and goddayum. I'd be down if it wasn't so far away. I'll have to find my way there for some GG someday tho'.
