Operational Definitions for Gameplay Terms: The Project
Celerity replied to Digital Watches's topic in Guilty Gear General
I like your definitions of pressure and rushdown, because that is generally how I think of those terms already. However, how exactly would you define a "rushdown character"? I think the most common usage of the word "rushdown" is in reference to character archetype, and I'm not sure if this new definition addresses that usage. Would you say a character with great mobility and poor mixup is a "rushdown" character, while a character with the reverse is a "pressure" character? Personally, I would define a rushdown character as one who has a higher than average dependency on rushdown (moving the game state from neutral to pressure) to win, regardless of how good they are at it. This definition works across games because it's contextual, but it's not ambiguous because it still operates on the concrete definition you've provided. Using this definition, Venom isn't rushdown (he goes straight from advantage to pressure with little transition), Rachel isn't rushdown (she's very good at it but not strictly dependent on it), and Mitsuru isn't rushdown (I've heard many people say she has "good rushdown" because she can work her way in safely). Millia, on the other hand, is obviously rushdown because she's reliant on going from neutral to pressure without setting up. This is pretty much consistent with common sense and the way most people see things already. -
I put a bunch of info on the A-Serena wiki page: http://eslaf.wikia.com/wiki/Serena_A Not many combos there. I spent most of my time learning the properties of her moves, and all of her TC movement options. I think the midscreen combos are pretty good though. Translation still needed for a couple of her moves (I no can haz kanji).

T-Cancels can definitely be used to cancel the recovery of some normals, but the timing is crazy, and I'm not sure if every normal can be cancelled this way. Try Sisca-B c.B > T-Cancel > 5A. If you time it right before the c.B's active frames, it'll connect and be recovery-free. I can't seem to duplicate this for every move though, so it probably has something to do with the first active frame hitting the opponent. Maybe we should use slow motion to figure this out more deeply. Cool! I love Serena-B too, but since you're working on her, I'll try to figure out some Serena-A combos. One thing I noticed with Serena, since she has an airdash after her double jump, you can do a JC IAD in the middle of her air combos instead of doing a regular JC, and it offers ridiculous corner carry. example: j.6A > j.B > JC IAD > j.B > j.C > j.D Also lol, Qdora falls asleep after crouching for too long, just like Rachel.

Qdora is feeling really underpowered to me. She's way too dependent on lightning gauge to deal damage (literally, with 20%, her combos deal something like 300 damage which is hilarious). All of her moves use gauge like crazy, she needs to use gauge to zone, to airdash, even to end her blockstrings, and the manual charge is way too slow. Her zoning isn't great, it all has a ton of startup and covers weird areas, though I admit the ability to convert on any random 236A/B is fantastic. She has decent mobility and an 8-way airdash, but it costs a ton of lightning and you can't attack out of it (no instant overhead shenanigans). It seems like she's only a good character in Dragon Install, but even that doesn't seem to improve her weak mixup. I want to love this character so bad, someone give me tech. ;_; The frame advantage display also changes based on spacing, to be accurate for moves that are spacing-dependent. Sooooooo good.

Yeah it seems like oki is difficult to set up in this game because everything OTG's, like Serena's ground fireball. Cisca's Stun Edge works since it's so slow. I figured out what option #10 does. It sets the AI to burst after X hits, how amazing is that? You can use it to practice burst baiting or see what the best time to burst is, though it seems like the bursts in this game have about ten years of recovery anyway. Would've loved an option like this in BlazBlue.

A lot of the stuff you learn in challenge combos is used in your actual BnB's, so it's not a terrible way to learn. You'll have to switch up a few moves here and there to make it optimal, but the difficult parts are usually the same.

These are the options I know: 1. Starting Position 2. ??? 3. Health Regen 4. Health 5. Guard Bar 6. Super Meter 7. The green bar (what does it do??? ;_ 8. ??? 9. ??? 10. ??? 11. ??? 12. Input Display 13. ??? 14. ??? 15. I _think_ this lets you assign the training dummy to 2P 16. Stand/Crouch/Jump 17. Guard None/All/Random/After First Hit/Guard then Jump/etc. 18. ??? 19. Air Tech None/Forward/Neutral/Back/Random 20. Ground Tech ^same 21. Counterhit Default/On/Fatal/Random 22. Slow Motion (actually pretty awesome) 23. Show Hitboxes 24. ??? 25. Game Options 26. Melty has that too.

Training mode shows your frame advantage on block, godlike. I'm having a hard time picking between Serena and Qdora. Serena seems way scarier, but I can't ignore the cuteness factor.
-
Yeah I like how Watches carefully wrote out one of the best posts I've ever seen on DL, and the guy just shit all over it. There are so many threads popping up about people trying to find mains, I think that post could be placed somewhere more prominent to help them out. That writeup from Koogy is also really good, I've never seen that before.

See those little red dots that keep appearing beneath the combo counter in that video? That's what I can't figure out. I'm guessing it has something to do with the SMP system, but it also happens when I go from 5B > 2B.
-
You're kind of a dick.
-
How do you get the training dummy to guard/tech? My limited Japanese knowledge tells me it should be in the second submenu where there are some options marked "recovery", but the behavior doesn't change. I'm trying to figure out whether my combos are valid, sometimes the little hitstun bar turns red, and sometimes a red dot appears below it. Not sure exactly what those two things indicate.
-
What is Tae's carpet good for? I see it slows air movement, is there something else?
-
I got the game to work by turning my speakers off and then on every time I run it (lol?). The characters are pretty fun, in training mode anyway. Everyone is either ridiculously fast or does too much damage. Cletia was giving me meterless 5k just for mashing buttons. I'll probably stick with Qdora in the end though. "Dragon Install!" too fucking cute.
-
I downloaded the game, but when I go to run it, I get a really loud and terrible buzzing. Doesn't go away no matter what boxes I check in config, or if I disable BGM in the game options. Any ideas?

Someone on SRK suggested that her hooks might shoot out like Hazama's chains, and that would be her trait. I think it might be a good prediction.
-
You use the trait to cancel recovery on his normals, and for some reason, the game is okay with letting you link stuff after this.
-
Yeah, you can't just link any random normals, but juggles are still links. Depending on the juggle proration, you get less and less time to pick the enemy up over the course of the combo, so it can be tight towards the end. Lots of characters have ~3F links somewhere within their BnBs, usually off of prorated B3s and F3s. I found a 1F link that I will definitely never use. Tough links exist, they're just not usually worth the difficulty for an extra 1%.
-
I see boobs in the 3rd pic, but then again, I see boobs in everything.
-
There actually are a lot of links, but most of them are easy. I can't play Black Adam online though, 2-3F links are too tight and too necessary for his BnBs.

I just made an account there, you can choose to have the site display in English by clicking a link on each page. During the signup process, it asks you if you want to add an international address. I clicked that and it worked for me. Still not sure if I should order the LE though, I have a feeling it's not going to contain a tiny vampire. Edit: Just got this message when adding to cart: Important Message BLAZBLUE CHRONOPHANTASMA Limited Box cannot be shipped to the selected address.
-
According to their shipping page, they ship to the US. I didn't try making an account though.
-
You shouldn't need a middleman, Amazon ships anywhere. Or is it just cheaper that way? And yeah the only reason I'm worried is because they might be leaving the listing up indefinitely knowing they can get as many copies as they want, and there will eventually be LE's that don't contain the nendoroid. It's sold out everywhere the neno is guaranteed.
-
Amazon apparently still has the LE available for pre-order. I'm a little worried that it might not come with the neno though. Thoughts?
