The only advantage to hold-to-tech, as the person teching, is that you're infinitely less likely to get an unwanted attack when you tech unexpectedly. (You're also infinitely less likely to get random throws from your techs, which I've done a handful of times. Consider it a trade-off.)
On the offense, it makes catching bad techs a little more reliable. A good player will still decide when to tech instead of attempting to tech as soon as possible at all times. So, idk, it's fine.
