Montreal: Le Thread Generale Pour Weeaboo Fighters

Too bad the TVs weren't there. The place was still pretty hype, though. Hopefully we'll get in some GG/BB next time! :D -
Nominate people for awards here:
Sophisticat replied to Henaki's topic in Site Feedback and Suggestions
I second all the above nominations. I should have thought of doing them myself. All three at least merit a look over, and Kirbster definitely should get an award for winning T12. -
Nah, you just treat it as a 3c CH and combo from there, except you can do 5c after it. ----- I'm not sure about adding a "midscreen to corner" section. While it is valid that you should measure distance to corner, this isn't something mechanical. Much more useful, I think, would be to list a set of follow-up actions depending on distance and from which combo you're coming from (we could add the extra dimension of which starter was used, but that's too complicated!). For example, you can do the following when leading into the corner: - j.C -> 5c -> 3c - AD j.2a -> j.2c -> 2c -> etc. [include corner loop here] - [...] land -> [Hop] Gurren -> 2c -> etc. - Etc. So... it all depends, but I think it would greatly shorten such a section if we don't try to just list every variation for every combo because that would just be tedious. Besides, the basic idea is just to find a way to get into corner loop depending on your distance from the corner. The idea is fairly simple, so we shouldn't complicate it!

Yeah, exam dates is what worries me the most. Early-to-mid December is a bad time. :\ -

The general idea is that MTL wants to take over the US. So, yes, we will be sending our best warriors to conquer the nation. Count me in provided I don't have any Uni stuff going on at that date. I should hopefully have polished off some good amount of rust by then. -
Whoa, lots got posted. I'll comment later. For now, there are no optimal Zantetsu combos as there are better uses of mag. However, there are uses for Zantetsu (such as a conditioned overhead) so listing combos is valid, they just won't be optimal since Zantetsu itself is not. Just thought I'd point out that distinction.

Congrats to MTL and JF for winning it! Hope the vids were recorded, it'd be a shame to lose that stuff. Man, we were talking about the state of the scene a year+ ago and thought it'd take years to catch up, but it seems MTL is storming through the BB scene. I'm getting hype again. I think I'll come to meets as often as I can now, need to practice for dat NEC. @Cabane a sucre idea: I second the best idea ever. I used to go to one every year with my family when I was a kid since they're all campagnards so it was like a ritual to eat the stuff fresh. Even my vegetarian self is craving for some bacon. Om nom nom. -

QC, TO, NJ, NY. But flies in the wind. One by one, we shall reign supreme. It has been predestined since the beginning of time. Ufufufufu~ -
If you're considering shortening the post, I'd cut out the spoiler tags myself, or at the least leave the first such instance of tags for each combo piece and cut out the rest. If you want to keep those, then I don't mind moving around what I have on the second post to the third one, so we can have two full posts all for combos so we can have it all. Do two posts if you feel it's necessary, don't feel constrained by the limit!

Redline was absolutely phenomenal. It's one of the rare movies I would not mind rewatching at all. It's that good. -

I'll add ya. I only play like once a week online though, which is usually Fridays. Au moins la connection va etre bonne, hein? It's not Litchi; it's Vice. He's too good. Well, Litchi's control of space is really good, but Vice knows how to make it hurt. ;_; My execution sucks in game now, I'm rusty and haven't really learned Haku's new combos anyway lol. I think I'm going to set my status to "permanently rusty" from now on. I always seem to be in some state of rust no matter what now, haha. -
Oh yeah, that combo definitely works. It's tight, but 6c lv1 after Renka(K) is tighter. The trick is to hop the moment you recover from 6c. I find the execution a bit impractical, so I normally just do Tsu -> hop 2c -> CL (2) -> etc., though that's because I also do (fuzzy) j.B as hit-confirm first and the pushback/j.B height can make your distance vary. As for starter, the shittiest one you can get is probably 2a as you can still combo into stuff with 5a CH and get better proration. So something like 2a -> 5b if some hit-confirming is necessary, and plain 2a otherwise. @SG: Ah, that explains it! Yes, I believe that's what Ryoko was referring to. Thanks for the info.

By God, he posted it! And it's huge! :O Good job, IN. I'll look it over tomorrow and put it up asap. ----- For now, I also agree in that 5c as a starter is iffy. You'll note that I put "[starter]" in front of most combos not just for aesthetic reasons: the starter can modify the combo itself on top of doing more/less damage due to proration values. If you're ambitious, including the low dmg values w/ modified strings for lesser starters would make the list more complete. But that one's your call since it's a heck of a lot of work. You've done plenty, and that's real awesome all on its own. ----- As for challenge 8, it has to do with how high the 6c hits. If you do 6c after Renka(K), then max delay 6c will result in hop -> 2c being possible. It's very tight, but doable. I believe Ryokoalways posted the exact mechanics a while back, so this is all I remember. Spark should be able to answer this one more precisely since I think Ryoko's got his own career now to take care of.

GGs Vice, dunno if you got my msg. :D ----- Good luck to the T12 fighters. Hoist that MTL flag high above TO. Make us proud; bring the hype and shake the ground! -

Fun meetup, guys, it's nice to meet ya'll again! :D I couldn't stay long, but demonstrating my newly shitty gameplay was... Not as bad as I'd thought. I got in a couple wins despite dropping all my combos and mashing footsies. I'll catch ya'll next week if there's anything going down. :D -

Nice! What time? I'll show up, but I don't think I'll be participating in the tourney. I'm rusted more than the Titanic at this point, so casuals is all I can manage. Nini, you need to learn how to make counterfeit alcohol if you're to survive Uni. It's worth, like, 50% of your final exam when you graduate! :D -

Anything happening at Foonzo tomorrow? I can finally go and check out the place for real, though I can't stay late at all. It's better than nothing! -
I'd say go ahead with what's already there, but reading over the list I think I might have assumed it was more "readable" for newbies than I'd originally thought. A lot of it assumes you're familiar with the game already as well as some of the finer points of Haku comboing despite the explanations. I haven't seen anyone in this thread complain, so maybe it's not that bad. I'll still clean that stuff up when I have time first.

My spirit is with you! D: Good luck for T12 guys. Show e'm who's the real Kings of the Coast! -
^ Nice, I really like the presentation of that list. It's really clean and uncluttered... Unlike mine. But that's just how I roll. I seem to do organized clutter really well. *Cough* >_> Anyway, cleaning up is probably my priority here. The format needs to be good or else the whole thing will just be one big mess.

Nigga, GTFO. CT was THE SHIT! Seriously, though. CT just had someyhing that made the gameplay a bit more fun than it is. The balance was hella aggravating, but the pace of the game was faster, and I think the whole meshed together more fluidly. It's like the mechanics were more chill or something and it was just more fun in that sense. To be sure, the balance was horrible. I still really liked playing vs. Blood-Gemini's Nu, but aside from him, it was pretty frustrating. All Mac's saying is that outside of what made CT bad there was something there that made the game more fun which the sequels seem to have shed. It'd be cool to have that je ne sais quois element back.

Lol, I also don't think dividing the screen in more than quarters is necessary. Most lists just go by "midscreen" and "corner", and that's plenty even in GG. We even have a section for "heavy carry", which I think is sufficient. In general, there are only three variables to account for here: 1) Midscreen combo 2) Midscreen going into corner combo 3) Corner combo 1 and 3 are clear-cut, so it's #2 that can get a bit murky depending on your distance from the corner since your options for follow-up will change. But overall, I don't think the guide should attempt to hold anyone's hand. We could make a very detailed list, but the player himself has to figure these things out on his own. There's simply no other way of learning the game than to hunker down and do your own research whether or not it's out there. Fact is, I find it much more useful to know what combo pieces fit together than a complete list of all combos since that's how it works most of the time. The situation can change, so rote memorization will not help you there, and that's another reason why I went with the idea of listing common "pieces". Learn what fits into what, and work it out for yourself. This is not something that a combo list can give you, only experience, research, and experimentation will do it.

I just read the TO thread. If you guys really want to save on costs, cram everyone into one hotel room. A guy I used to know who's an EVO veteran would go up to 8-10 in one room. They had a running joke that whoever got the closet "would never be the same again".
