[CP] News & Gameplay Discussion (Old)
Darlos9D replied to kosmos badgirl's topic in BlazBlue Gameplay
I think I made my stance on this issue perfectly clear in my last post. These outfit designs are often bad from a writing standpoint. I know we're not all here for the writing or care to take this game's story seriously in any way. Still I think it's a valid point. Though no, mAc Chaos, people looking at these games and immediately making the worst assumptions about my peers and I doesn't help either. Also I miss the Chappelle show -

The complete non-functionality of certain outfits in a combat situation aside (I know that argument will get a "who says outfits have to be realistic?!" response), the issue is the fact that the outfits don't match the personality. At least in Litchi's case, she seems to have this mildly sultry demeanor going on, so showing some skin actually makes sense for her personality, and it feels right. But Makoto and Noel? I have no idea what aspect of their personalities would ever lead them to dress like that. Maybe they're both secretly way trampier than I've given them credit for, but nothing in the story has really given evidence to support that. So their outfits just feel totally out of left field, because it just doesn't seem to match their demeanors. And that bothers me. Honestly if I want to see hot naked chicks (real OR drawn) I have an internet full of porn to turn to. Heck, you can find some really good fanart based on this very game. But, when I'm actually consuming some entertainment that actually has a story and decently developed characters, I'd rather they make some kind of logical sense in their overall design so I can take it at least somewhat seriously (and other people can take me seriously for playing it). Not to say that no character can dress slutty ever, but an equally sulty personality had better preclude it, or else it just makes no sense from a writing standpoint. Even if Lambda and Mu were still around (and let's face it they probably will be at some point), magnetizing a zoner doesn't exactly auto-win the match for Tager. You still have to do moves to pull them in and/or try to approach them, all of which are either difficult or plenty punishable by a solid zoner. Maybe its just years of dealing with a terrible character talking, but I'm fully expecting Tager to have plenty of disadvantages against many characters. Because of that it's kinda hard to think of it as "same fighter." Tager is different enough to suck often, at least. -

Haha, yeah. That's bizarrely logical. If you have to ask, then I probably can't explain it to you. -

Litchi is still quite fanservicy, yes. But then Makoto and Mu came along with outfits that make even less sense and it made my brain hurt. And now Noel has a skirt that seems to hover an inch away from her body. As for gameplay, yes, corner shit needs to be toned the hell down. For instance, every fight with Ragna is me watching him juggle me from one corner to the other. Even if I'm otherwise winning. It's absurd. The last time I fired up BB I was reminded of all the things that bother me about it. The corner stuff and the absurdly long combos really bug me. And it's not just because I'm Tager I swear. I'm hoping the sequel is a good bit punchier. So far the reduction in hitstop seems like a good move. Maybe they'll tone down the combo length. Even SG had to give on that issue (though we're still waiting for that patch...) -

This game gets sluttier with every update... Feels bad man. I kinda miss the days when the most fanservicy character was Litchi. -

Yeah, let's hope this speed increase and all the other changes enhances the "game feel" of BB enough to where he won't be the only one who feels that way. -
Also, this: ... MAJESTIC pull? I have no idea what that means. Well at any rate I guess we have J2C combos back.

Okay, so while Osuna is right in that Tager walks forward after activating OD in that video, he doesn't walk forward immediately. And it does seem like Hakumen gets pulled towards him just a little before Tager actually starts walking. Doesn't look like that happens the rest of the time in OD though... eh, I dunno. Watching that video, it looks like Tager gets control of himself before the opponent techs after Grand Punish. Well, assuming the opponent didn't delay their tech for some reason. Assuming he didn't, it looks like we could very well GF after it. Something a bit concerning: Tager AC'd Hakumen raw, and he teched before he hit the ground. Ergh.

I think the issue is more that people are getting fight-y about it. So uhm... did we ever figure out how Azrael's drives work exactly? Maybe I just missed the boat on that info, but conversation about it always seemed a bit flaky. I guess its nuanced enough to where it's a bit hard to test in these loctests, and the term "weak point" are kinda vague. Hopefully since this next round will be more widespread, such things can be figured out more easily. Seems like it'd be a bit op if he could literally make his moves high/low unblockable. Maybe it just increases damage at those levels instead. Also it feels like nobody is sure how much of a grappler Bullet is. Seems her 623B is a command throw that might have some kind of startup invuln. And then there's that j623C. I guess it depends how much that stuff affects her overall game. Amane seems like the most obvious of the two. Whip and drill people, and then turn them in to babbies. I wonder if those young versions of characters are simply "what the character might look like if they were suddenly child-ified" or "what the character DID look like many years ago." The latter would be more interesting to see. Either way, I don't see Rachel being affected by it, lol. Maybe it'd just turn Nago and Gii into baby animals. -

Well, I was thinking of maybe putting together a more "american" model of an arcade. Basically just some LAN party center where there's a bunch of consoles, computers, and games. Then you just pay some entry or time-based fee. Maybe get a discount if you bring your own crap. I know I've seen something like that before. Might fail just as hard, though. -

Hell, the net is just better in Japan in general. But yeah, a local arcade system that then sends data to a network after the fact would be pretty nice to have here. Too bad arcades are dead. Maybe they should set up a way to get that system working on or between local consoles? I dunno. Then maybe I'd be even more compelled to try and pull together a scene here. I keep thinking about it but never try. -

The level system doesn't take anything away for a loss. I guess what he's saying is that it should be a pure win/loss ratio. What PSR tries to do though is account for the fact that some players are better than others, and that if you beat one of the better ones (theoretically, one with higher psr) you should get more points. Of course when people can just faceroll their way through online with Ragna due to lag-exploiting crap, PSR kinda stops meaning anything. -
No clue. I don't think anyone has confirmed this. If it has damage closer to 360B then I'm going to assume it doesn't. I could be wrong.

I guess I quit BB for now because I felt like my Tager game wasn't going anywhere with online being my only option, and I didn't feel like learning a whole new character. Not just their moves, combos, and general tactics, but every single matchup all over again. That's both the blessing and the curse that "every character is really unique" fighters (read: arcsys fighters) brings to the table. A blessing because it's cool and its great that every character is so uniquely interesting, but a curse because its daunting to pick up a new character at high levels of play. I'm tired and rambling. -
Yeah I figured it would be purple. This guy is saying you can tech trap people with it more consistently or something. Maybe if they're magged? I dunno. Can't be much less risky than tech trapping with AC.
-
They can tech at a different time or in a different direction.
-
I don't see Tager suddenly turning into a KoF grappler... as fun as that would be. Also if they did that they'd have to do something about the fact that you could (GF > 360B) x N.
-
Oh, yeah, they can tech the moment they hit the ground, huh? Hrm... Still I can't believe it's not salvageable or something. It's just a bit obtuse. I look forward to the arcade release so people can actually get time to figure stuff out.
-
You'd think with that huge AC bounce we'd have plenty of time for options there. Not sure why that isn't seen as a good thing. Is the recovery on AC slower or something? Also I thought 6C at least bounced airborn opponents? After doing 3C > AC whiff > 6B > 6C you'd think we could then just do AC > whatever. I swear they're still airborn after 6C in that combo because I remember seeing people trying to jc 6C and do air stuff (typically unsuccessfully). Dunno, maybe they changed 6C and I don't know yet.

Even with curse? Of course OD forces curse doesn't it? -
Kinda reminds me of "up quark" for some reason. Which is appropriately science-y.
-
Can't say "air spark" because Tager himself isn't in the air. AA spark? AA meaning "anti-air," of course. I can't think of anything more clever at the moment. As for AC weirdness... its such a drastic change that we'll basically have to wait until people can legit play the game to see what it can lead to. With such a huge ground bounce certainly we have time to do plenty of things after it. Unless the recovery on AC is longer or something.

:| What terrible cabinet manners.

Can you watch even if you're in line? Personally I wouldn't care. If you can watch then you're getting data either way, right? People will be people though.

Thanks dude. You and Isuna are the uber-bros of Dustloop right now.
