I never refer to Tier Lists when it comes to picking my main. I usually pick the characters based on their personality. That's why Makoto and Bang are my mains, with Ragna and Tsubaki as switch-ups. I used to really like using Litchi, buuuut...after...

the whole thing where she joined the NOL

, I kinda lost faith in her, despite whatever reasoning she had.

I look at the tier list and pick whoever's playstyle I like best from among the top tier characters. So,

Nu in CT and Ragna in CS. Dunno how long that's going to last, sadly, with all this scary loc test stuff going on.

Crap honestly i still can not pick... I wanted to pick up hazama and I got used to his play style, then I picked up Makoto not too long ago. Then tried out Ragna and Litchi. It's very hard to pick when you enjoy just about every character. Oh yeah and I tried out mu-12 lol

My main is Tao and my decision to main her came out of nowhere. I honestly didn't take this game very seriously at first and was actually very annoyed with losing constantly online because I'm used to picking up mostly any game relatively fast and I lost dozens upon dozens of games when I started. I began with Rachel, watched a few moves and realized that there is WAY too much going on (Lobelia placement, George usage, keeping bats, sylpheed gauge, etc) for me to enjoy using her at a high end. I didn't win much with her and it disappointed me immensely. I blamed the fact that she might just be too difficult for me to learn perfectly and quit the game for a couple of months.

So around the time I got back from Ohayocon, I was watching some people playing Blaz in my university's game room and I keep on thinking.. well.. I'd like to get better and learn how to play at a higher level.. so maybe I'm just going about this the wrong way. I admit when I played, I knew a lot about a lot of characters.. Except Tao. I never really took the time to understand how she played, what she did, how to do it. Nobody on campus played her either. Said she was a useless, boring character (Granted a lot of players on my campus to this day are still ridiculously shallow about anything in fighting games, so I just ignore them for the most part)

So I went home from class that night, did my homework and popped in Blaz for the first time in a few months. Fallout 3 was taking over my life prior to that.. so you can see how I wouldn't have the drive to play Blaz anyways, and I took the crazy cat lady into Training.. I messed with her move sets, her techniques and came here and read a lot on how to use her. I analyzed videos and pretty much kept what I was doing a secret.. after all, people on campus really didn't know I played much. The further drive on getting better came a couple weeks later when I found a hori joystick in a package addressed to me. Shock and awe appealed to me as I trained my Tao on this new device.

On campus, I'm one of the better players now. I still can't keep up with a few players, but all the scrubs pretty much won't play with me now. Say that because I'm playing a stick I'm imbalancing their rotation.. Pssssh.

In short. I like Tao for a multitude of reasons. I actually did find her funny the first time I played, just never really got around to using her. I like her naive, yet carefree personality and her "lol" moments. She's a blast to play, and I enjoy the difficulty behind playing her because I've had to work to get up to the mediocre level I am with her.

And yes. I keep english voice overs on. I think Philece Sampler does an awesome job portraying overly hyperactive kitty cats of doom.

In Calamity Trigger I immediately latched onto Taokaka because of her design. Her gameplay pretty much solidified her as my main and I spent a good six or seven months playing almost strictly Tao. After that I took a break and waited for Continuum Shift. My initial hope was that they'd put Kokonoe in and I could swap to her, but that didn't pan out so well. I spent about a month trying to decide between continuing Tao or swapping to Tsubaki, Noel, Lambda, or Makoto. I settled on Noel because she's got the most appealing looks and I can be flashy with her. Fights are hard, especially against the top three, but it's always a pretty rewarding experience when I win.

I am considering swapping to Platinum when she comes out though. We'll see.

A character's personality matters a lot to me. His/her fighting style is secondary to me.

The first and foremost criterion for me is: do I like his/her personality and/or can I relate to him/her? I have to love the character, and that's where you start. That's when you start to practise combos at a more serious level (though I can't say I practise seriously and/or frequently. I confess nowadays I am not really playing CT as seriously as I appear to sound). Even though you might be fit for one character's fighting style, if you don't like/love that character I think you are less than inclined to practise that character. That's my philosophy.

Personality-wise, I should say my favourite (amongst playable characters) in CT is Rachel, probably followed by Jin. Rachel might look arrogant and high-nosed at first, but I think she actually cares (one of the alternate story paths in CT, where she shows the "dere" part of her tsundere) about Ragna, and perhaps the world. Oh yes, I love black tea too. :) In CS (if a PC version gets released, I hope!), I am considering Hazama and Rachel. Rachel for the same reason, and Hazama is just like Joker. Cynical, mad, twisted, intelligent. A guy who actually knows what he's doing. Put outstanding voice acting by Yuichi Nakamura on top of that, and he's just perfect. Design-wise I find the three aforementioned characters quite satisfying.

Other characters within my interests include Nu/Lambda and Hakumen, but I don't think I will get to them until I solidify my mains, which will probably take a while.

Based on what I have read I am starting off with an advanced character, but hey, I like Rachel. I am going for it.

Let's see, when I started playing CT, I stuck to Ragna, though around the release of CS, I was starting to go for rachel, arakune, and Hakumen.

When I got CS, I was still Ragna for a while but then I started playing as Hazama, and I like him. I'm trying to learn Hakumen and maybe makoto or jin as well, but since I'm new to fighters I'm onlly becoming semi-competent with any of the characters and learning alternate combos. Too bad a hardly get to play online haha

I'm new to the thread, and I'll be honest I picked Ragna because I picked Sol and because I like the smartass, which Ragna most definitely fit. Dead Spike reminding me of Gun Flame did help a bit though.

Typically, my friends and I just screwed around and latched onto the characters that appealed to us the most.

I found Nu/Lamba an interesting gameplay concept as she is a "glass cannon" type character, moreso in CS with the added rushdown (GOD I LOVE ACT PARSER!), Rachel is one of the most fleshed out fighting game characters ever IMHO and im currently anticipating Valky and Platina.

My friend likes hyper people and immediately picked up Tao as she was fairly accessible in CT and Tager just because he was buff and sounds like a god.

Another friend tried Caruru Crova, and liked the puppet's whole "1 hit = infinite" thing, and hakumen because C spam means win.

Its all about personal taste, unless of course your a tier whore or something.

I couldn't play anyone else xD. Tsubaki had that easy only like one botton combo so I got hooked.

I chose to main Carl because I loved Liesolotte in Arcana Heart, although my Carl is ass because I don't have an arcade stick yet. I need a good bat top stick for the 360 because I hate ball top sticks. Hell, I main Gen in SSF4, and he's basically gimped without a stick because stance dancing is impossible on a pad.

After I saw the original trailer for BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger, I immediately took interest in Noel because of the nature of her fighting style and because I found her Distortion Drives to the most aesthetically pleasing out of all the characters shown. Later on I started seein' matches of Kaqn's Ragna and took interest in him as well.

When Calamity Trigger was finally released for consoles I mainly used Ragna the first few months because he was relatively easy to use and his rushdown style clicked with me. After taking the time to learn her basic combos, I picked up Noel as a secondary and later came to realize I had a lot more fun using her than Ragna. Eventually she became my most frequently used character. She's honestly the most fun character in the entire game to play, I reckon.

As my signature indicates, I'm still waiting and hoping for a BlazBlue game with playable Jubei in the future. Although I may not drop every single character I use now (I doubt I'll stop using Noel), I'm sure that if Jubei were to ever become a playable character in the series I would end up putting a lot of time into him. :3

He's easily my favorite NPC, my favorite of the Six Heroes, and one of my favorite characters in the entire series.

I played Ragna in CT because he seemed like a fairly easy character to use. When CS came out I saw how cool Bellial Edge Loops were so I said, screw you Hazama, i'm stick with Ragna

I loved Hazama when I first saw him in CT, and when I saw his CS play style I was sold.

Too bad I do him no justice.

...Jubei...

You're doing this on purpose... aren't you.

To stay on topic: I chose Tager because back when I first started playing I was a shitty player and kept getting 720'd. It made me mad to see most of my health bar disappear with one stupid mistake. Then I realized it's probably more fun to do that to other people and make them mad instead.

It is still very satisfying to catch those mistakes. Unfortunately, now that I've come to understand the game more, I'm disappointed that all Tager can seem to do right is capitalize on mistakes other players make. If they don't make mistakes often, then you're left with very little to work with.
