Bored of GG? Not very likely. More like most players aren't willing to put in the time and effort associated with learning this game. It's no walk in the park, and it'll take some serious dedication if anyone wants to become even just a decent player. It's the fear and the despair, when they are crushed by a player who has lived and breathed his character for multiple revisions of this game. This is what makes new people feel like they'll never be able to bridge the gap and will turn towards something where they can soft cap themselves in training mode much quicker.

America will never have any significant amount of people willing to pick up and take seriously a japanese "anime-style" fighter. GG requires actual effort and thought to learn and enjoy, leaving it with not nearly a big enough player base to sustain itself as it becomes an "old" game.

real talk though, playing gg has made me not mash, never push buttons and properly wait my turn in other fighting games usually resulting in me losing to the other person playing a single player game and not giving a fuck as to what I'm doing

This, exactly. I myself considered not bothering to play the game. I stuck with it because I love the cast (Johnny in particular of course. I can never say no to a Wakamoto voice, being the weaboo I am) although a bigger reason might have been the fact that I didn't really have anything else to do with my time. We have access to all the other big name fighters, but GG just takes everything I like about other games and makes it 10 times more awesome. So yeah, I think I'd rather play GG and just forget about other games.

As another plus, having the original XX (too lazy to get AC... well actually that might change this month) means I get to practice dustloops too, just like in the site banner. TEYAH! TEYAH!

Things the GG series needs to do to become popular (No, really): 1: Advertise. Blazblue got a helluva lot of advertisement, from many many different game reviewing websites and magazines hailing it as the next big thing for fighting games. This revealed Arcsys to the 'mainstream' gaming world at large, especially since they last time they advertised for one of their fighting games was back with GGX's trailer. If the next GG fighter (assuming they make it, if one is to believe the rumors) get's even a fraction of the advertisement Blazblue got, it will, I believe, become insanely popular. Keep in mind for a long time, Guilty Gear's fan base was completely created through word of mouth. We recruited tons of new people to the GG community-- How many of you guys started playing because of someone mentioned or told you to play, and how many of you saw a commercial on TV? 2: Community needs to be active. Our GG forums are dwindling in activity, and this is to be expected-- With BB taking over the time of much of the community, there hasn't been much activity. But GGXXAC+ doesn't need to die because BB came out. I personally just don't like BB, but there aren't as many people who play GG as consistently as before. I hope Arcsys releases another fighter soon so I can some more competition again. Fighters historically live for a long time, if their a solid game-- Street Fighter II ST is a perfect example -- So GGXXAC+ should still be going strong. 3: Either Arcsys or the community needs to provide more accessible, reliable information on fighting games. They did this with Blazblue's limited edition copies with the training DVD, as well as the "Teach Me, Miss Litchi!" in-game segments. This is important because new players need to understand the fundamentals of not only the complex techniques in Guilty Gear, but also the allure of fighting games in general; Fighting games have a way of being to meta for most people, I've noticed. Just some thoughts.

I wonder if ArcSys already know the complaints/thoughts we posted(especially the one above my post,) if not, I hope they are able to read them.

I believe that Sega owns (stole) the rights to Guilty Gear, so there is nothing Arc Systems can do about it now, except try and buy the series back. It also doesn't look like Sega has any plans to do anything with the franchise either, so... yeah.

theres was an interview not too long ago where one of the higher ups in arc system works said there are no issues with the licence holder sega and they would focus back on GG after a year or so with BB, since they are a small company of less than 100, they can only focus on one project at a time.

By advertising, advertise by mouth? Not like Arc is gonna do anything, anytime soon. Beh. I've stopped playing besides convention fun. And no one on my campus seems to take the game seriously. WHERES ALL THE HYPE. I'll probably visit MD where all the big shot players are (for me) when I get the time and money during the summer. Trash talking is funny to read on a forum.

I'll be honest. I've never seen a Guilty Gear commercial in my life. I actually bought the game on impulse because it was on discount @ a Blockbuster some years ago (It was GGX2 for the Ps2). I just bought it because it was a fighter.

I stumbled upon Guilty Gear, didn't know what the fuck it was, but still bought it for 10 bucks and played it. Today it's one of my favorite fighting games of all time. :yaaay:

you want me to give you the said interview?

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/102/1026689p1.html

In short:

With all this talk of BlazBlue and its future we wonder what fate lies in store for Guilty Gear, especially in light of reports that complications with the licence have ensured that ARC won't be able to work on any future games on the series.

"We don't have any issue with [licence holder] SEGA." Kidooka assures us, "This year and next year we want to focus on BlazBlue – this is our mission, and we'll maintain Guilty Gear while we're doing that, so we're not abandoning it. Being a small company – less than 100 – and with the arcade market being quite small, it's not feasible to do two games at once."

it gives us some hope.

Sick man.. Thanks. Mad internet rumors everywhere, like the article said, so it's nice to be able to read something concrete every now and then.

Dear god, me too. Then again, I'm not picky. I'd settle for humble folks, just so long as I could actually find somebody decent to play the damn game with. The only person I've ever played who isn't my brother is the very epitome of a scrub: he's pointed out to me blatantly many times that he just doesn't care enough about playing the game to put more than the slightest effort into it. (Then again, he still does pretty well with Order Sol. Rock it and Storm Viper are surprisingly spam-able, and sometimes he actually mixes it up enough with 2s's and other random shit that he'll pull out a match...) :vbang:

I'd heard of the game, saw it at Gamestop for $30 for PS2 (Accent Core), decided it might be fun, and did impulse buy. Most technical fighter up to that point was Melee.

Best. Day. Ever.

Played it tons, had lots fun, awesome.

2 cents on the "Best Johnny" issue, Qwerty is what I'd consider the best Johnny I've ever played against, but I honestly don't think I could say best in America. Maybe best in California?

Maybe only Johnny in Cali....

I watch videos off of niconico video, that is all the experience I need to be a good american player.

Dustloop by and large is not a competitive community, and I think the only thing that could maybe change this is BBCS being good enough to make everyone care. The match experience issue really kept US Guilty Gear from getting as serious as SF/Tekken/etc, and online (even w/ mediocre BB netcode) is a huge help for that. Guilty Gear isn't going to grow because it's a hard game at a time where every big fighter has gone easy-mode, simple as that. I'd be happy with Slash & AC making it onto GGPO, but that probably won't happen for a long time. =/

It's not going to grow quickly, no. But be assured that there are new players out there that know that there's something more to the trash that is BB/SF4, and if they see it then they'll try it. We just have to keep playing so that GG is there to see.

well hey nobody doubts that getting matchup experience in gg is hard but are you insinuating that tekken players have it any better?

there's like a million fucking characters and a good number of people who play tekken are awful at it.

I know some competitive Tekken players who can already play almost every character in T6BR (and they subbed Mokujin in 5DR), and that's just in Seattle. I'm sure there are people like that in other Tekken scenes as well.

But then again I think Josh Ballard was talking about the online mode...

GG=no online mode

Tekken=yes online mode

You get the idea...

PS. Speaking of which... I'm just curious. Is there a GG player who can play like every character at a competitive level? Let me know if there's one.
