bjholmes2 Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 For discussion of the Hazama vs. Carl matchup.
Shiawase Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 From what I've seen in videos the matchup is in Carl's favor. Hazama has a hard time stopping Nirvana if he can't hit Carl.
Phones01 Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 hazama has a hard time against carl especially if he gets rushed down by carl most options are to be patient with carl and aim for the chain to counter hit or you can 6D or 4D into 623D and combo from there or gashokyaku them into 623D since alot of carls will air dash to you when nirvana is far or they might use the new projectile move to be a moving shield or to loop you full screen. but this is just speculation and experience
Phones01 Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 what do you mean ike easy for hazama or easy for carl cuz they both have to work hard to close in each other, carl using nirvana's attacks for a moving shield agaisnt hazama and its hard to get hazama because he has his chains that make for great evasion agaisnt getting trapped between nirvana and carl.
kid viper Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 easier for you to get in on carl than it is carl to get in on hazama. it's not hard for hazama to close in on carl at all because if he hits with chain then he instantly goes, if he blocks chain then don't go. as simple as that.
IkeTakeda Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Cat will be desperate soon enough and you can take advantage.
IkeTakeda Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 That really easy. Chain approach and grab command.
junja Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 watch out for iad approaches. carl will be crossing you up a lot, so practice guarding. once he commits to an iad you can hit with flash kick. duh. but idk what the best punish option is. 3c works well too. when you two are full screen i see nothing wrong with merely snakeing nirvanas projectiles. especially if youre ahead. just wait for an iad to midscreen and j snake. getting rushed down sucks, but you can dead angle or command grab if the frames are there. idk
Dangle Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 but what if your the cat? if you're playing hazama you should never be the cat, he's a character that requires a patient playstyle
RAQU 17 Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 if you're playing hazama you should never be the cat, he's a character that requires a patient playstyle I'm pretty sure Buppa does just fine with his psychotic rushdown Hazama. But yes, typically, Hazama is played in a very calm manner. Chains up the wazoo, wait for an opening. I personally play a style thats the median of the 2.
kazukifafner Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Yeah, but Buppa is just a psychotic rushdown kind of guy, lol
Dangle Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 buppa's rushdown w/ hazama is also nothing compared to what it is with characters like jin or even hakumen, hazama cant rush THAT hard unless he has someone in a corner

I didn't mean to sound like I was saying Hazama has the best rush game ever.

I didn't mean to sound like I was saying Hazama has the best rush game ever. oh i know you werent tryin to say he has the best rushdown ever, i was just sayin even with his rushdown, as far as rushdowns go, its still quite conservative unless someone's stuck in a corner, in which case mixup spamz
ZONG_one Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Against Carl: - Counter super out of every punch loop. (And don't get baited.) - During whiffed gear super, do your snake super. - Flash kick after every blocked 5B.
Ghost Beef Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 The only thing I can see Carl really having over Hazama is that his size causes you to have to delay a lot of hits or approach them differently in order to connect. But after you get used to that he's nothing to worry about.

ZONG_one Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Zoning really helps Haz in this match up, I believe. I don't know what other characters this helps him with, but against Carl, it seems to get the job done. Go in on your CH snakes, I guess, for free damage. :]
Ghost Beef Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Carl might not be a problem but his sister gets in the way of everything. :V True that. a real snake block, that one
Kane Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 I was baffled by the extremes in this match-up. It can go in 2 directions: 1) You get hit by FC j.B into corner pressure / You get combo'd and Carl vivace's (command dash) to the other side so you're stuck between him and nirvana eating damage and getting reset constantly into nirvana super mixup/cross-up/unblockable bullshit. 2) You use your mobility to your advantage, landing damage and getting out, with Carl not being able to even touch you. Couple of pointers: - Save meter for Dead Angle, you're going to need it. Use bursts wisely, because good Carl players will be baiting that shit. - Don't rinse Ressenga as an overhead in your mix-ups, Carl can IB and punish if you hit buttons afterwards, even if you block, you're now blocking strings while he's setting up his nirvana game. - Use your mobility; You can avoid Nirvana trying to get in and chain yourself straight into Carl. - When reeling yourself in from a blocked chain, use j.A as it's safer, Carl's AA is crap, but feasible and if they time it well enough, you could potentially be eating massive damage. - Don't reel yourself in on a blocked chain when Carl has meter for super, he'll be waiting to punish you with gear super. - 5A is good against Carl IAD'ing/jumping in, 5C is good also as the range is decent and on block you can cancel into 2C which has to be Barrier Blocked in the air. I have a question: When stuck between Carl and Nirvana blocking, if you IB Nirvana's punch would you be able to escape? I don't have the means to test it myself
Arifureta Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 Don't reel yourself in AT ALL on blocked chain. That shit's dangerous. :V
