4r5 Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/06/07/dark_awake_psn/ Taito 2D Fighter Chaos Breaker Coming to PSN Type X fighter being revived by Recom as download title. There aren't too many 2D sprite-based fighters on PSN (Xbox Live Arcade is a different story thanks to strong support from SNK Playmore). Recom will be providing some relief for PlayStation 3 combatants through the upcoming Dark Awake. This 2D team-based fighter appears to be Taito's 2004 Type X fighter Chaos Breaker, operating under its pre-release name. Recom apparently acquired the rights to the game and has decided to bring to to PS3 owners in download form. Developed by Korean developer Eolith, Dark Awake has a fantasy theme, giving you access to a cast of 22 fighters that includes barbarians, dwarves and trolls. Players form a team from three characters and pick up weapons and items while facing off against an opponent. The PSN version includes an arcade mode that mathces the arcade version, an online mode with ranking and friend match options, and a practice mode that lets you practice as your favorite character. Recom is also equipping the game with voice chat, Trophies, and the ability to directly register people you've fought as your friends. Dark Awake will see PSN release this Summer at ¥2000. http://www.recom-corp.co.jp/darkawake/ http://www.recom-corp.co.jp/darkawake/ VIDEOS on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/user/playtowin http://www.youtube.com/user/FourAreFive Japanese WIKI: http://chaos.versus.jp/ Release: Jap PSN 08/05
Poseidal Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 I've been interested in this, as I'd like to play a good traditional fantasy fighter (and this kind of reminds me of Warhammer too). Think it'll get translated, and does it look possible for an XBLA release?
Hecatom Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 HELL YEAH!!!, now i only need to get a japanese psn card, man i have been drooling for this games for a long time now :yaaay: now lets hope that the netcode is at least aceptable, damn im HYPE
Blade Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 I question this poll...there should be an "Uh?" Option.
purify Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 The Yeah!s are obviously taking this one. I thought this was about Chaos Code when I saw the announcement...or Current Code. I'm actually glad they're changing the name for the US version, there's nothing else I know of named DARK AWAKE I'm really looking forward to it, looks like a vs. version of the Capcom D&D games.
4r5 Posted June 7, 2010 Author Posted June 7, 2010 Do we know if it's coming to US PSN? Might need to buy a Jap PSN card and stuff. I question this poll...there should be an "Uh?" Option. If you are undecided, then you shouldn't be voting. Do some research and come back when you can make an informed decision.
Shining Aquas Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 I'll vote when Atlus or Aksys decides to localize it
Blade Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Undecided? More like I don't know what the heck this game is about except that it looks like a beta for World Heroes???
4r5 Posted June 7, 2010 Author Posted June 7, 2010 Undecided? More like I don't know what the heck this game is about except that it looks like a beta for World Heroes??? Sounds like you need to be voting for the Yeah! party.
4r5 Posted June 13, 2010 Author Posted June 13, 2010 So tataki has started to upload videos to his channel http://www.youtube.com/user/playtowin I have as well http://www.youtube.com/user/FourAreFive search nicovideo with カオスブレイカー for more And here's the Japanese wiki http://chaos.versus.jp/
4r5 Posted July 7, 2010 Author Posted July 7, 2010 http://www.recom-corp.co.jp/darkawake/ website up. trailer is ass. website art looks nothing like the ingame characters. GOD I CAN"T WAIT!
4r5 Posted July 15, 2010 Author Posted July 15, 2010 shhiiiiittt, they're redrawing the graphics (sprites included). The art you see on the website ain't just for show! new trailer and sections on the main site. I hope there's an on/off switch for old and new graphics. But as long as they aren't horrible, I'm fine either way. edit: also, release date is 8/5
Reioumu Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 That might actually change a whole lot of things for the game. Especially if they change hitboxes, move properties, etc.
purify Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Wow, Ramda and Sandra look nothing like they used to. More...Western-style art now, not sure I like that =/
AcidHairBall Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 I might get this if I get a PS3, but otherwise I wish I had a PS3.
Hecatom Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 too bad that i need to wait until the end of the month in order to get this game
Mightfo Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 So, what distinguishes this game gameplay wise from other fighters? Somewhat interested in this for when I have a ps3 due to teams+item system which seems good, not to mention being able to do shit like 1 character 3 items, rofl. It also seems to have some sort of deflect system. I'm not seeing a lot of interesting special moves though, not that you necessarily need some robo-ky magic going on, but maybe I've watched the wrong videos.
4r5 Posted August 6, 2010 Author Posted August 6, 2010 OMG, it's been sooo long since I've played a fighting game where mistakes feel like you just took a bullet, and not a slap on the wrist. You like games like ST or CvS2? Huge punishes, large importance on positioning, and a single mistake can ripple through out the rest of the match; not just round, the entire match! This game literally fell out of time, 2004 to be precise, back when you couldn't even make one mistake. None of this hand holding we got going on now. I'm so glad it didn't get a console port till now. Otherwise it might of died with all the other pre-SF4 games. But now it has a chance, as evident by you coming to this thread. Also, vids out for this game are of questionable quality. As far as I know, there's only one arcade in Japan that plays this game at all, TRF, and sometimes their tournament vids range from players never missing a hitconfirm or combo and impeccable spacing, to players that block everything with their face. Maybe with console release, TRF's scene will become more consistent. Or maybe America will take to the game, like MvC2?...
