My own shortcomings, and I don't see myself changing anytime soon.

Personally, I don't give much heed to things I can't do anything about.

If it's regarding BB stuff, you know you got respect, and I am just trolling.

I don't feel like I deserve it. Who still loses with a broken character? Who still loses to Tager with a broken character? Who still loses a 6/4 matchup in their favor with a broken character?

This guy.

Meh, everyone has bad days. When i get in a rut like that I take a little break. Play another game or something. The time away does wonder to clear your head. You could play some SF with Toan, Shervin, and I.

I've been playing SF, and it doesn't help my mindset, it's just more losing, more of me bitching about shit I know nothing about, and more of me drooling over my choice of character. That last part isn't a problem btw, hell if I could put Sakura in any game I wanted, I would play every game forever.

Actually, Sakura pretty solid this time around. For me anyway, SF just clicked one day (last week), and now I can play it. It's all very chill though if you just want to play a game with no pressure I can inv you. Don't feel like you gotta live up to any expectations. Just keep trying to improve.

These are still bad habits I need to get rid of. Litchi and Tao murder me because they just duck/crawl under jC. And I always autopilot blockstring into 2B 5B...and try to 2B again but nothing comes out lol.

Btw, thanks for rooting for me guys. I was so nervous during that OCV, my legs were shaking. :v: I dropped so many combos.

Time for patented wall of text.

After finally being able to play Mu in a competitive, offline environment, I can see even more now how important Mu's zoning is. I still have bad habits like trying to "get in" without orbs and not playing lame enough which is the main reason I got bodied by Xie in teams. I did a bit better in singles but still lost. In Losers, I fought against Jason D, who said he was unfamiliar with the matchup. I eventually got knocked out by DJNashfan (sp?), a good Tsubaki player whose name I recognize from netplay. I didn't mix up my zoning enough and I kept trying to mash out of her 236C on block like it's CS1; a habit he took advantage of.

Regarding the previous discussion of Mu being top 5, I think I can believe it. She has 3 or so very good matchups (Ara/Carl/Tager), with mostly even matchups and some poor ones. But I feel even her "bad" matchups (Hazama) aren't really THAT bad. There's not a character that really makes me feel, "man I can't do anything". I used to think Makoto was really awful but playing some casuals against LK's Makoto changed my mind. You can spam the hell out of HABAYAAA against her (you can't use it enough) and she has a hard time getting past it unless she's already close and dash in 2A's you. LK said something to the effect of "yeah, it hurts when she hits you, but you don't ever have to let her get close to you". Mu can just play lame against the top tier; and rightfully so. That leaves a bunch of even-ish matchups and a few very good ones.

And while it isn't directly related to her options or character strength; matchup inexperience against Mu can be used to your advantage in a tournament. Even in Japan, you see about as many Mu as Carl in the videos. The team I OCV'd were actually quite solid players, but they had no matchup experience against her so I got away with a lot of mistakes. Even some of the California regulars I played casuals against said they don't get to play against her that often. I mean, I don't even know what to do against another Mu because I hardly ever play one. :v:

I thought that was an interesting post, since I'm new to using her. Very informative. <3

Sucks that random disconnects hurts our matches, otherwise I would have loved to train with you to learn Mu better. I'm sorta okay with her but not 'OMGZ AMAZING' yet. ^^

I agree with cookie, a very informative post about playing Mu competitively. :3

I have a tournament on Saturday, so hopefully I can take that advice and use it well.

it could be worse, u could be me :v:

i haven't improved a single bit fundamentals-wise since mid-CT no matter how much i've read, watched videos, drilled in practice mode, and played others. I estimate my win ratio vs people at that beautiful skill level where u actually learn u hold back to block to be close to 0% (and even against the remainder barely above 50%). And i don't only play noel, i still also play makoto, even if i am thinking of dropping her.

U've got it way better than u think.

Luna has Nuff' respect. Nobody think's ill of you, especially over BB.

Dora/Satoshi (Bang) both lost to Matsu (Rachel) in CS1.

Pretty sure Buppa did, too. Buppa also lost to Tager.

Doesn't matter how good you play, every match is still a bit of a lottery.

He's not saying it's rough losing, but rather he has no joy in success, no feeling of accomplishment. A predicament to be in for sure. I would suggest enjoying what you can, and not playing what you don't. If bb just isn't fun anymore, take a break, it happens with every game after a while.

I'm kinda glad I switched to Mu. Whenever I hit someone with Noel's 2d I feel an immense joy and guilt at the same time... it can't be good for your mental health.

Yeah, because on the one hand they deserve it, because getting hit with 2D means you weren't respecting Noel, and even though she doesn't have real DPs you kind of need to treat her like she's a DP character. But then on the other hand, I always remember how much I hated getting hit with 9k from Arakune, and then I remember how it always made me feel, I imagine the person taking 5k for their own mistake is feeling the same way.

CS2 noel is a strange character... While I think she now has a higher skill cap (more pressure options, things like corner TK bullet rain into combo, 6a CH 2b whiff dash 2a 6c link, etc) it's way easier to be an average noel nowadays... I remember in CT people had such a hard time with 6c bc loops... That amounted to what, 3k, 3.5k damage. In CS1 Noel was all yomi, and spring raid link (objectively speaking not difficult, but a hurdle nonetheless, separating good Noels from the average) did 4.3k... Now any Noel schmoel can 2d and get 5k with strong corner carry and 6k with fenrir. Mehhhhh.

Ok, enough whining, I ate shit vs. some Noel last night.

Oh yeah, someone teach me how to make my avatar bigger plz -_-

Nah I can agree with that, nowadays you judge a good Noel by if they can break 2.5k off of 5A, alot of scrubby Noel's I used to fight are pains in the ass now because they can derp into 5k.

The treasures and tribulations of top tier.

I've been there.

Arakune main since CT.

The best mental advice is to just enjoy the ride, haters always gonna hate, and we've all hated at some point in our FG career.

I-I think I can do that.

CS2 noel doesn't exactly have a higher skill cap.....She just has more mixup options. The only pressure options she gained were like 6a 2b or 5b 2b. And it's wayyyy easier to be an average or top noel. In CT, noel wasn't all about 6c BC 6c loops. Yea it was awkward but if someone grinded it, it wasn't that bad. CS1 wasn't about spring raid links either, neither did it separate a good player from an average player. What made better Noel's stand out from average was the ability to IB drive on reaction and capitalizing combos under pressure. CS2 noel is pretty much CS1 noel except mash D and win now. She rewards a lot more D mashing than actual thinking and outplaying another person compared to CS1 and CT. There's no reason to not mash D for the fact that the damage cap on D mash is 5k+ and the max you get off of a 6b overhead is about 3.5k meterless. The only stuff you listed was just how noel's execution and damage has changed. It's not enough to make a character strange. And tbh, noel imo has become such a beginner-friendly character that rewards mashers more than people that actually try to learn match ups. I mean wake up 2d/4d? So noel gets a mixup on wakeup into 5k damage? I already know mu can deal with it but other characters just have a hard time. It becomes that the Noel player won due to mostly mashing and combo execution rather than fundamentals and outplaying the opponent. I hate saying this because I really love noel as a character but this is just how I feel right now.

Lastly, more people need to play ST nowadays. Old game but it's great for teaching people.

Wow Agi, way to rep that star, talking about stuff you know nothing about.

Wakeup drive will get you bodied, and if it isn't then the person who got hit deserved it.

Posted

It feels like I can't spam 2D at all. Not like in CSI. I rarely ever get a chance to do 4.8k midscreen. If I get a chance to land a hit its mostly off of 6B or 6A.

Not according to the revelations tournament!

Sorry, Kevin, but I kinda agree with Aginor. Notwithstanding the small changes that morphed her execution curve a bit here and there.

Noel is like Tager with good pressure and 5k off of cross up 2d, on the other side of the match (fighting against Noel) it's one big crap shoot.

But I disagree with him on the notion that execution does not separate good players from great players.

It does to an extent.

Hey just because you guys are free to drive doesn't mean it's a valid option to base your entire game on.

Of course it feels like shit getting hit with drive, but all you gotta do to avoid 2D is just hit 5A, all you gotta do to avoid 4D is hit 2B, and suddenly Noel's drive isn't a threat anymore.

Posted

Eh, I'm not convinced... every time a character has some overpowered asset they get defended by saying "If you get hit, you deserved it." It was true for j.D They said that about getting cursed by Arakune too in CT. "Just don't get cursed!"

Usually the drives go through something to a move already thrown out... you don't just randomly drive with Noel so the other player can 5A you. You'd probably wait til they commit to a move and then drive through it.

I wouldn't put Noel's drives up there with things like that though.
