Star-Demon Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Visually, yes it's like picking the same guy twice, but gameplay wise not exactly. I know there's some differences, but it's essentially the same strategy from my end. Saiki will usually approach more. If you see how I (try to) play Mai and Athena, it's like that. "Boobies->Throw fans."
Bolverk-GTM Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 I really dislike that Saiki and Ash are so similar that it's like having two of the same char on your team. What's so similar about them? Appearance? That's all I can think of. Ash is a more defensive zoner that strives to push characters to the closest corner, which is the only place his close range game is really worth a damn. Saiki is an offensive zoner since his tools are more oriented for mid and close range. Ash needs meter to be more threatening, so it's ideal to have him on anchor. Saiki's already more than threatening without meter, so he's usually on point or assist. Ash has Sans Culottes, a pseudo V-ism state where he can cancel what he wants, when he wants into any command normal or special, which is vital for corner carry and also scoring Ash's best knockdown (Germinal). Saiki does not have Sans Culottes, instead he has an aerial version of the b+D command normal which, when combined with his other tools, can lead to some interesting combos and fuzzy guard shenanigans. Ash can annoy you from long range with his entire arsenal of projectiles. Saiki can only annoy you with one projectile from long range because all of the other ones are useless at long range. Saiki can do decent damage with Drive meter. Ash doesn't really have much use for the Drive meter and even if he did, his damage still sucks. Star-Demon, I don't know how to say this without being blunt, but I think you presented this statement with no clue what you're talking about. Sure they look alike and they both have a projectile, that's great. However, you have to look deeper into every aspect of the characters before you conclude that "it's like having two of the same character on a team." On that note, I still haven't unlocked Saiki and I'm too lazy to go through Arcade again. Hmm...99 cents won't hurt my wallet that badly, I guess.

I just wish to drive the point home that they're different that they would have gave one of them Ash's pre-xii stance and some more different normals. I know headswaps don't cost much compared to something from the ground up, but at least Vice/Mature and Ralf/Clark have different stances and normals. EDIT: Yeah the above post sums up how different they truly are. Edited December 24, 2011 by Starlight777
Star-Demon Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Yeah I'm bad at this game. It fucking sucks, and I hate it. There.
kazukifafner Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Was able to go through all of the trials with some of my characters. Actually pulling off HD combos was satisfying as hell. I mean, I still can't perform them in a match (not even close), but just having done them at all helped get my confidence. Had a halfway decent session last night (even though I didn't catch any of you guys online). Felt like I had a slightly better idea of what I was doing. Still lost a ton and rarely feel like I have a lot of control during a match, but I felt like I held my own a bit more.
Mightfo Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 I think I am going to pick up Ralf and generally run ralf/mai/shen woo. Does anyone have general advice for ralf(tips about approach or pressure or whatever) or just any comments about him that aren't immediately apparent about whatever moves? also am i high or are his jumps different Yeah I'm bad at this game. It fucking sucks, and I hate it. There. now you are truly becoming an east coast player
Star-Demon Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 now you are truly becoming an east coast player Don't get it.
kazukifafner Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 also am i high or are his jumps different What do you mean by "different"? I mean, every character's jumps have different properties. Jump around with Daimon and then jump around with Andy and you'll notice a massive difference.
Bolverk-GTM Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Don't get it. EC players hate not being good at everything they do. They also hate having to put effort into learning things they feel that they already know. One of us, one of us, one of us. :D
Star-Demon Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 EC players hate not being good at everything they do. They also hate having to put effort into learning things they feel that they already know. One of us, one of us, one of us. :D We are extremely competitive and engage in derision at the drop of a hat, for sure. I feel like I'm just not capable, sometimes. Like I'm too old or slow to do it. I should listen to my horoscope. You may experience self-doubt today if your day deviates from your ideal schedule. You might even wonder if all your efforts over these last few weeks have moved you closer to your goals or have been an exercise in futility. Your key word now is patience; don't do anything recklessly just because you're frustrated with the apparent lack of progress. You'll begin to feel more productive as you start to see results from your recent hard work.
Starlight777 Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Don't generalize all of us in the east like that.
FormerlyUnknown Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 I should listen to my horoscope. do you follow the 12 sign horoscope or the 13? o3o since i'm technically a cancer in 12 but a gemini in 13....so i'm not sure if i should be patient today or if i'm supposed to have a day of getting things done o3o
Star-Demon Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 (edited) 12 - While the 13 thing is floating around, I think at some point in that mess it was concluded that you follow the signs of your age. I am 28, so obviously Pluto is a planet and there are 12 signs in 4 elements. Quite an elegant system, when you take some time to study it. Considering the idea that 12 signs are divided in 4 elements, it makes 13 problematic. I really don't know how any astrological scholar is going to reconcile adding a 13th sign at the cost of the entire system. Besides that - if you shift the astrological signs, you end up with completely different traits. Geminis are not Cancers, that's for damn sure. As far as I'm concerned, the 13th sign is garbage because it undoes the system. Man, what a derail. Edited December 24, 2011 by Star-Demon
Starlight777 Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Ok even though I'm pretty sure Mr.Karate is the last dlc character, part of me clings to a dim hope that SNK makes a character after him.
Mightfo Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 What do you mean by "different"? I mean, every character's jumps have different properties. Jump around with Daimon and then jump around with Andy and you'll notice a massive difference. as in, athena's jumps are a ton more floaty, and it seems like ralf's jumps are smaller(like foxy in 2002um but not as extreme) Ok even though I'm pretty sure Mr.Karate is the last dlc character, part of me clings to a dim hope that SNK makes a character after him. i hope he either has a more interesting neutral than takuma, or simply has better normals than takuma i also hope braked dp isnt safe also i hope snk adds more dlc characters too. there's the whole shion, heidern etc thing... FOXY FOXY FOXY FOXY FOXY FOXY Is there any collection of "Fanmade" KOF13 characters anywhere? I remember seeing a bunch on some forum but i cant remember where...
Vulcan422 Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Foxy is already in KOF13 though. She appears in Kula's winpose at random, the other being Diana of course.
Starlight777 Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Foxy is already in KOF13 though. She appears in Kula's winpose at random, the other being Diana of course. And that's unfortunately why it would be awkward if she was a playable character again. Not to mention she's already in Kula's Neomax.
SolxBaiken Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Implying SNK will bother with NESTS characters that aren't Team K' :<
Bolverk-GTM Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 (edited) Don't generalize all of us in the east like that. I'll generalize us how I please. ' Also I'd personally like to see May Lee again. She was fun to play. Edited December 24, 2011 by Bolverk-GTM
Mightfo Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Foxy is already in KOF13 though. She appears in Kula's winpose at random, the other being Diana of course. Oh, right. I was referring to KOF13 style sprites of Whip, Angel, etc.
Rampage Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 It needs to be Geese, what kind of KOF has no Geese?
SoWL Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 Man, these trials are kinda hardcore after the easymodo challenges in BB. I'm already stuck on Kula's fourth trial, where I need to input two half-circles in a short window between the two hits of her DP. How the hell am I supposed to do that?
