Bolverk-GTM Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 GGs to Star-Demon. You signed off before I could finish my message and send it out. What I can tell is that you're playing too impatiently now. Mind you, I recently started working on my impatience and fixing it (as you can see, I'm a bit more passive now when you get offensive), but it's like I'm developing patience and giving you my old impatience, lol. As I learned less than a week ago, there's a very slim risk of being chipped out in KoF and while 60 seconds doesn't seem like a lot of time on the clock, it actually is plenty of time. Don't be in any rush here, just slow down and watch your opponent. Observe everything they're doing and find that chance to move in on them. It doesn't have to be immediate, take your sweet old time. My friend I play with offline once told me that you should never play at anyone's pace but your own. Also seriously...you should probably learn the combos. If you already know them, then just give some time for your hitconfirming to improve. It won't get better overnight, but keep at it and eventually you'll pull off the big combos whenever someone screws up. These matches today were definitely an improvement on your part, but there's still plenty of room for more.
Bolverk-GTM Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Nests Kyo is so awesome Don't remind me...

Mind you, I recently started working on my impatience and fixing it (as you can see, I'm a bit more passive now when you get offensive), but it's like I'm developing patience and giving you my old impatience, lol. The first 5 were okay. Usually after that I start getting tired. I was in pain all night, so I'm susceptible to burning out quickly because I'm so damn tired. My friend I play with offline once told me that you should never play at anyone's pace but your own. That's true, I mean, I'm as defensive as someone who isn't a zoner can possibly be, so after a while I figured "just go crazy". After posting my video I found a guy that posted videos of Vice's trials. That should help. Whenever I've tried, I can never hit buttons fast enough for anything to link together. I've tried it but I've made zero progress. Simple as hell things like Vices 214AC->214A seems to help. Many many times I couldn't nail followups after the tackle. It was very frustrating. I've tried the jump-in many times but it's so unsafe on block that I'm not sure what to do other than back off and try again, even though you didn't punish it.
Mightfo Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 (edited) i am underwhelmed by NESTS kyo in terms of pressure leapkicks aren't + unlike older versions, pretty bad on block actually, seems like a mediocre rekka mixup to me(gauntlet hades esque? just block or react to him landing from only doing one hit) red kicks arent overhead like i could have sworn some people said and are bad on block(unlike old versions?) his neutral is probably baller though i guess but i wont get to have any offline matches until january so its hard for me to judge that until then and of course he is easy to get damage with but seems fucked by range on some occasions Edited December 20, 2011 by Mightfo
qwerty Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Haven't you ever played 98 dude? It's just high/low all day. Hop B and crouch B. Sometimes hop CD just to keep them honest.

Sometimes hop CD just to keep them honest. i'm aware of that, but i can just do that with normal kyo i'm not saying he has bad pressure, just that i was expecting certain things that would give him pressure advantages over normal kyo and it did not turn out that way
qwerty Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Yeah but he has better HD combos + a better neutral game. He's easily the best character in the game atm.
SoWL Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 Finally got the game two days ago, but I will have to get used to the system before hitting PSN. The combos in the trials are much shorter than in BB (at least for now), but the link windows are much stricter, and that frustrates me a great deal. Push the button too early and the move doesn't come out, push it too late and the enemy gets too far to land that command grab of yours. Oh well, it's all gonna be for the better. As for the team, I'm probably gonna use Kula, one of the grapplers (probably Daimon or Vice when I get better with the game), and some melee heavy hitter like Shen or Elizabeth. They all seem like fine characters for a total KoF newbie like me, and powerful enough to net me some random victories. Other characters I'm considering are Maxima, Clark, Athena, Billy and Yuri.
SolxBaiken Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 Kyo EX's moves (in English) and Mr. Karate stuff

This is a REAL HONEST FIGHTER. I understand exactly how you feel, but just practice. If you have a stick I recommend stick for this game over pad. Unfortunately I'm a pad warrior. If you are new, I'd recommend Clark for your grappler - he's cleaned up two major tourneys as if they were netplay, and he's really good. I play Vice myself, but she just isn't Clark. There are so many Kulas it's kinda lame, but she's very solid and deserving of popularity. Yuri is Akuma, thus also popular and strong.
SoWL Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 If you have a stick I recommend stick for this game over pad. Unfortunately I'm a pad warrior. Alas, I'm in the same boat. And I like Sixaxis much less than my PS2 pad, sigh. I'm actually glad to hear Kula being so popular, she is the character that I would gladly learn the game for, even if I'm not a unique snowflake about it (see what I did there?). Her combos also look very simple and easy to understand, so even if I change her for someone else, that won't happen for a while.
Rampage Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 (edited) Does anyone want to play later?? Edot: Nevermind, your on 350. Edited December 21, 2011 by Rampage
SolxBaiken Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 GGs Jam :3 Good games but...I suck at this game... | ●_●|
Kyosuke Kagami Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 Good games but...I suck at this game... | ●_●| Try attacking more (AKA no projectile spamming and defending a lot). Turtling in a KOF game vs a mexican = death
kazukifafner Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Ugh, I just can't find the balance to this game ;-; Press an attack, get punished. Go on the defensive, get punished. Roll through projectile spam, get punished. Hop over projectile spam, get punished. Try to punish opponent, get punished. I don't know what to do! Maybe I should neutral jump more :/
Bolverk-GTM Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 (edited) Turtling in a KOF game vs a mexican = death TRUTH! So much truth here. If you have a stick I recommend stick for this game over pad. Unfortunately I'm a pad warrior. Just a reminder, learning to play on a stick does not make a better player. You'd be surprised at the number of pad users in KoF (me being one of them). This is one of those rare games where you're better off sticking to what you first learned the game on. There's a considerably large difference between playing KoF on a pad and playing KoF on a stick. It's not a "better or worse" difference either. It's an "I don't think I'm even playing the same game, this is so awkward" difference. Edited December 22, 2011 by Bolverk-GTM

Bolverk-GTM Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 (edited) Maybe I should neutral jump more :/ Hop like a madman! Yes, do both of these. You have no business rolling through projectiles because you're free to throws while rolling. Just keep neutral jumping them and wait it out. KoF is a game of much patience as I've learned not too long ago. As for the punishing thing, there's plenty of things that are unsafe in this game, you just have to be quick to punish them. Like there are some things that you have to chase down IMMEDIATELY to punish (K'/Kula's DP, each AoF team member's Hienshippukyaku) and some things can be punished earlier than it seems (because blockstun doesn't last as long as it looks), but a good few things are most definitely punishable when they don't look punishable. It took me a while, but I'm pretty good at punishing stuff in this game now. KoF is a game based on punishing. If whatever you do is getting punished, the other player is doing something right and you have to change your game to punish them for trying to punish you. How do you do that? Well, that's just something you have to figure out over playing the game. Hell, I still ask most people I play for advice because the other guy could be a knowledge base with the answers that I'm looking for. I'll make myself sound like an idiot if I have to in order to get answers I need. You live in Ohio, Kazuki. We should have a great connection with each other, so if you're available for matches tonight, I'll play you to see if I can analyze your gameplay for myself and try to help you more. Star-Demon Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 I really dislike that Saiki and Ash are so similar that it's like having two of the same char on your team.
Starlight777 Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 I really dislike that Saiki and Ash are so similar that it's like having two of the same char on your team. Visually, yes it's like picking the same guy twice, but gameplay wise not exactly.
