Red Exodus Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 y'know Red, i think Raven is different. Dr. Paradigm is Michael McConnohie, while Raven sounds like Jamieson Price. Now that I watched the video again, I think Crispin is Sol . . . Atleast some of those lines sound like him. Its kinda hard to pick it out. Listening to it again, you're right, they are both different VAs (who sound way too similar sometimes). However, I know I heard Paradigm's voice in one of the soldiers talking to Ky earlier in the trailer (which is still VA recycling, and thus, a no-no to me). As far as I can tell, Crispin Freeman is not involved in this game. His voice is easily distinguishable, and his voice is most definitely NOT Sol Badguy's. listen to original Japanese for GG2's That Man, he sounds all whispy & young, so I'm happy that Yuri is doing his "Pharos voice" for that role. That's because they changed his voice actor, which I wasn't all too thrilled about. But then it never made sense to me why Daisuke got 2 different voice actors for a character he himself, also vocalizes.

Aksys DID get "fantastic voice actors" just not the ones you wanted (but several I did :D ) Crispin's GOTTA be Sol, since the same Jap voice actor played Alucard as well. At least I HOPE so. How... meta.
DonMungMung Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Whoo, thanks for the trailer link Blade! Man, gotta get a 360 soon just for this game, if only to support the series 'n for the online capabilities. The voice acting's....ok. Sol's voice sounded a bit too smooth from what I heard, and I literally can't imagine Ky without Takeshi Kusao, so I'm definitely biased on that one. Valentine's is ok, but it doesn't sound as light (?) as the Japanese (I thought it was kinda cute how her voice 'n walking animation matched). Paradigm sounds the exact same though! Also, I thought it was kinda funny how they put so many spoilery story bits into the trailer hahaha. Damnit, I gotta check Gamestop or somethin' to see if there's gonna be a pre-order bonus deal. C'monnnnnnnnn artbook and/or OST! *crosses fingers*
Zazz Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 trailer tidbits aside, i noticed some news saying that Arc Sys is bringing Overture BACK to TGS almost year after it was released i'm expecting some kind of epic awesome DLC. (super-king-robo-ky plz)
Zazz Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm4556861 nico version of the US trailer. its higher res than the youtube if you wanna see it.
Akselziys Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Guilty Gear 2: Overture Interview with Daisuke Ishiwatari and its localization producer at Aksys I think some of the info contained within you'll all find interesting http://www.siliconera.com/2008/09/09/all-about-guilty-gear-2-overture/
Tsak Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 DI: GG series as a 2D fighting game haven’t ended. We’re planning to develop both 2D and 3D series, but it’s still too early for us to disclose any information. from daisuke himself so uh Accent Core isn't the last eh?
Overture Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Thanks for that... I wanna see Bridget again...and as strong as he was in #Reload =(
Suzaku Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Pretty good interview. Another source confirming that GGX and GGXX are canon isn't a bad thing, either.
KD Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 MM: The Preorder bonus is the hidden custom created for Sol Badguy, which can be found if you preorder with GameStop. Oh damn I wish I had known this sooner.
Shining Aquas Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Ok, I played GG2 Overture, expecting a mix between Guilty Gear and Dynasty Warriors. Guess what I got: MEH! I went into it knowing it would be shit, and that's exactly what I got. It's not what Guilty Gear is meant to be, and that is the greatest fighting game ever. Instead it can't decide whether it wants to be a fighting game or a Dynasty Warriors game, and it spends the whole time going back and forth with gameplay styles that the overall experience just isn't up to snuff. I suppose if I were to give this game any merit at all it would be the only true constant that all Guilty Gear games have: Excellent Music. My advice: Skip the game, buy the Soundtrack.
purify Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 I imagine if you were trying to play it like Dynasty Warriors, you wouldn't have much fun since it's an RTS looool
Zazz Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 what's the official release date of this anyway? also i liked playing DOTA back during my school days, but i'll buy this because i'm a GG fanboy and i got friggin isuka after all
CABINET SMASHER Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Honestly, the only draws this game has is that it plays like DW, had US VAs, and a decent soundtrack. Zazz: it's expected to hit stateside 9/30.
Suzaku Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 From everything I've heard and seen about the game, it doesn't really play anything like Dynasty Warriors. Even Ishiwatari says it's more like Warcraft than Dynasty Warriors. It's closer to an RTS game, and he specifically points out WC3:TFT's Defense of the Ancients mod as a comparison.
CABINET SMASHER Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Yeah, but do you manually input special moves while in WC3 like you do in GG2? :P
DonMungMung Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 MM: The Preorder bonus is the hidden custom created for Sol Badguy, which can be found if you preorder with GameStop. Wait, "hidden custom..." what? Outfit? Weapon? I feel like there should be a noun afterwards. Oh well, I guess I can ask some buddies at GS. (Although I really want an OST...) The retailer they mention is pretty particular too; does this mean that there will be no pre-order bonus if you book with GameCrazy or BestBuy? Oh man I'm so bad at RTS~. Wonder if there's any cheat codes haha.
Marquis Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 This is a slightly backwards way of approaching a game. If it combines the real time and action elements well, cool shit, if it doesn't, fair enough we move on/rage/shitbricks-- but what isn't reasonable is drawing loose comparisons to other games it only vaguely resembles and scorning it for not living up to goals that nobody ever had for it. you can dislike the game for any inane reason you want of course, I dislike it for not being 2D, but in a reasonable/objective review we've got to establish some ground rules.
Silmerion Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 Random thought: Anyone ever play the first two Kingdom Under Fire games? Overture kind of reminds me of that.

Wonder if there's any cheat codes haha. You can see it in the official site for the game...It just shows more skin than the original costume. XD So now i dont get it...i read here many times that GGX and XX werent canon...and now in this interview they are saying they are? WTF?
KD Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 He did not say GGX +XX were not canon he went with the word gaiden meaning that they were kinda like side stories compared to the happenings of GG 1 and 2. For some reason it seems that a lot of people saw the use of gaiden meaning that GGX and GGXX take place in some alternate universe after GG and this universe doesn't matter because the GG2 one is the real. Eh, I'm not good at wording this right. Video game story discussion is just crazy shit anyways.
Suzaku Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 Actually, you can thank Ed/Skuld for the spreading of that rumor. He listened to/watched the interview and, apparantly didn't know what gaiden means or misunderstood or was just waiting for an excuse to bitch, and posted up a rant on his LJ about how X and XX weren't canon all of a sudden. Which simply was never the case. I went back and read the interview and Ishiwatari calls them "gaiden", sidestories that are canon but not directly related to the main plotline.
