eirei Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Character thoughts Mostly Makotos, Noels, and Litchis today. Makoto So many nerfs and she's still really strong. Probably just everyone in CS was broken. Game seems to be focused on the corner, but Makoto can do some decent damage midscreen, all while taking them to that corner, where she can do her mixups. Noel Mashing midscreen into 4200 damage. Oh boy. Litchi The Litchi(s) I saw were really good players, so that might have something to do with it, but she still seems like a pretty good character. She has good pressure with the staff flying around and good zoning/range with the staff in hand. On the other hand, her damage is lower. I think it fits well at the moment. And she still rapes in the corner. Saw all of the characters today. None of them seem overly powerful. Everyone at max gets 4-5k or so. Then again, that's what we thought when going from CT to CS. But with so few changes happening now, we can pretty much tell what our combos are going to be in the real version. No one seemed too weak, or too strong. I'd like them to balance it well, but I don't want the nightmare that was Slash to repeat itself. Best move of the update, B Vivace. Just too good. (If it wasn't stated before, B Vivace is pretty much completely invincible except for throws now)

Corner combos reward spacing, if your opponent is better at spacing, then they should win the match anyway, no matter where the damage takes place on screen. WAH WAH WAH OH NO THE CORNER MIGHT FUCKING MATTER good job missing the point of the blade mockery welp, I wasn't trying to whine about the changes, and I got the point of the picture. This is why I try not to be funny in real life or the internet, it never works. I am down with gameplay that stresses spacing, hell I love playing OG Super Turbo, and there's a lot of spacing in that game. I play that to improve my execution of FG fundamentals, which still suck of course.

I don't remember seeing those translated on the big list of translations though I may be wrong. How solid does Makoto look - or rather does her mixup seem any better? Earlier changes seemed pretty crippling to her, but any changes that make it simpler for her to get in or get past blockers... Where these translated, by the way? Unless they give her a decent buff in the final build, I don't think so. She was already this bad in the 4th loketest and they didn't change anything in this one (5C CH->6C is useless and her 3C was already techable in the 4th loketest). The real problem is that they overnerfed her and didn't gave any real or useful buffs to her with the exception of the new j.B. But there's still hope that she may not be this bad in the final build.

First paragraph talks about bonus proration being removed. Talks about how it affects Carl's 2D and Noel. Second paragraph talks about the change in gravity. It's not Lambda language (not gravity seed). Moves like Inferno Divider and Air Lobelia fall faster. Kinda stylish. In other words, nothing new.

Moves that float on hit/counterhit aren't obligated to have a homing jump followup...but it sure feels like a waste of a good combo to me when they don't.
