mr.mortified Posted May 24, 2012 Author Posted May 24, 2012 That's a VX, not a VLX You're going to have to solder to that If you're gonna use a VLX kitty in a VX you're going to have to do it like me, the hard way You'll be better off using a Chimp SMD granted you'll still have to solder to the board. There is no solderless mod for the VX stick. very few solderless mods exist at all
Justice7541 Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 Does anyone know if this converter works with 360 sticks? i.e. Can I plug a PS1/2 pad into a 360 stick and use that to convert the pad for use on a 360, or does it have to be a 360 pad specifically? Right now I'm using it with a Madcatz Fightpad and it seems to work. The reason I'm asking is because I just had the totally random and not-at-all-retarded idea to improv a "padstick" together. I'm a padscrub who prefers the D-pad over the joystick, but I do like the stick face buttons, and recently I noticed that above converter actually takes inputs from both controllers at the same time, and now I'm thinking I could duct tape a PS1 pad to a 360 stick and have both. And also have a rockin' novelty stick. Problem is I don't have a 360 stick to test it with and I'd rather not spend money on one just to realize it doesn't work. Anyone tried it with one of these converters, or with a similar one?
Airk Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 Not familiar with that converter in particular, but that sort of thing -does- work. It basically uses the official 360 controller to provide the "validation chip" and takes the inputs from the other controller. I think they're kindof a PITA though. :P
Delrian Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 You might want to google frankenpad, it basically is a pad that has arcade stick buttons attached.

All I'd have to do for this is find some cheap 360 stick somewhere anyway. I'd have gotten one of those WWE Brawl Stick things at GS but they're OOS now. They do go on sale all the time anyway.
KisukeOboro Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 I want to try and switch from a controller, but all of the sticks that I've found are completely out of my price range. I've looked around and I found this one: http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Arcade-Fighting-Joystick-Playstation-3/dp/B0015PHMFU/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top Basically from the reviews that I've read say that it's fairly decent for the price and that it's great for modding when you eventually do mod it. This is literally the only price that I can afford at the moment and I'm seriously considering about getting it, but I wanted some other people's thoughts on it first.
mr.mortified Posted June 15, 2012 Author Posted June 15, 2012 no its not great for modding to be completely honest with you you have to work quite a bit to get a jlf in there as well as mill out the button holes to 30mm unless you're sticking with 28mm american/korean buttons. http://www.amazon.com/PS3-Fighting-Stick-V3-Playstation-3/dp/B0057WDBHA/ref=pd_sim_vg_1 you will be better off getting this. jlf is a drop in repacement with some milling of the bottom plate as well as no need to be able to make the button holes larger.
Kyosuke Kagami Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Stupid question: How can I prevent my Seimitsu's lollipop ball from unscrewing itself from the stick? It's kinda lol to see that I have to move it inside the rod again after a while. Happens to me a lot in VF5FS.
mr.mortified Posted June 15, 2012 Author Posted June 15, 2012 same way you tighten a ball on a sanwa? flip it open, take a flat head screwdriver and torque it in place
Kyosuke Kagami Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Never torqued a Sanwa, so I had no idea. Since I'm too new in this, do you have photos? :s Sorry, I'm that slow. Thanks!

Glad that I checked before I bought the other one. Thank you very much for the advice as I really can't tell the intricacies of sticks yet.
Delrian Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Glad that I checked before I bought the other one. Thank you very much for the advice as I really can't tell the intricacies of sticks yet. Mort does this stuff as a hobby... most people don't really know for themselves what's good or bad... I modded the Mayflash, while it has potential it definitely is not an easy mod by a long shot. @Kyosuke Instead of opening up my stick, I just attempted to tighten the ball after every fight. Doesn't come off anymore.
Kyosuke Kagami Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 May take a bit :x OH well, guess it'll tighten eventually. Thanks guys!
Airk Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 I don't have a picture, but here's how it works: You take the bottom off the stick. Underneath the actual joystick there is a flathead screw. You stick a screwdriver in it, just to hold it in place, and turn the ball (or hold the ball and turn the screw). If you just try to turn the ball otherwise, the stick shaft will rotate.

I guess I forgot to mention I would hold the shaft in place so it would actually tighten when I turned it...
mr.mortified Posted June 15, 2012 Author Posted June 15, 2012 You wouldnt have enough grip unless you used a vice grip or locking pliers Sent from my HTC Panache using Tapatalk 2
Airk Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 You wouldnt have enough grip unless you used a vice grip or locking pliers I'm always hesitant to do stuff like this because I always seem to mar the surface. That said, you shouldn't need TOO much pressure here, so as long as you use a cloth or something to keep things from scratching, this oughta work.
Nemesis Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 (edited) Im actually in need of some new sanwa buttons for my SF4 tourny edition (madcatz TE)- can anyone recommend a site to purchase them @? or just like amazon or something? (was wondering if there was a more preferred place) Edited June 15, 2012 by Nemesis

(was wondering if there was a more preferred place) The one time I bought buttons it was from Lizardlick, but they tend to be oddly understocked a lot of the time, so focusattack.com might be a better bet. mr.mortified Posted June 16, 2012 Author Posted June 16, 2012 oops ended up editing your post airk lizardlick is dead they've been having problems with their orders and preorder system and delays lasted from days to months with no reply or product last month their site shut down
Lumiere Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 My friend was surfing the net and stumbled upon this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2x-PS3-PS2-PC-Arcade-FIGHT-STICK-Joystick-for-Street-Fighter-4-SONY-/160824455264?pt=Video_Games_Accessories&hash=item2571e27060 It's a PS2 and PS3 fight stick, and I was wondering if it's a good stick to buy (price-wise and quality-wise). Thanks in advance for answering! ^w^

Thanks for the headsup.

Thanks in advance for answering! ^w^ honcam eh? http://shoryuken.com/forum/index.php?threads/honcam-ps3-fighting-stick-mod.79235/ from the looks of it its got quite a few downsides until you mod the thing up Pros: Price Form Factor Most Likely Common Ground (Easy modding) Cons Membrane buttons (break down easily most likely) Lackluster stick Not really any good until modded which will probably cost as much in parts as the stick The level of modding ability/effort needed to convert this into a good stick is about the same level as modding a mayflash. Buttons are 28mm and so you'd have to widen them a bit as well as find a way to install a JLF at proper height. tl;dr - its an okay stick pricewise since you're getting 2 of them, but those buttons and stick will probably feel like mush after 1 month or less of use unless you mod it
mr.mortified Posted June 17, 2012 Author Posted June 17, 2012 also for any of you guys looking for good sticks, you have until the end of tuesday to have these coupons http://shoryuken.com/forum/index.php?threads/mad-catz-ceo-2012-promo-60-off-select-fightsticks-more-ends-6-19.161960/
