Alright! Looking around the net I found a really good guide to modding a Mayflash by "Laugh" from SRK.

And I looked at different sites to compare prices between different parts, and it seems etokki.com has the cheapest parts.

Here's the price comparison I did: (LL is Lizard Lick, eT is eTokki, GS is Gremlin Solutions, AS is Akihabara Shop)

Joysticks:

Sanwa JLF-TP-8Y-SK:

LL: $23.95 (stick) + $2.95 (ball top) = $26.90 (mounting plate included, 5 pin harness not included)

eT: $22.95 (stick) + $3.00 (ball top) = $25.95 (5 pin wiring harness included)

GS: 19.50 GBP + VAT = $30.40 + VAT (5pin harness not included) [h5P = 4.50 GBP + VAT]

AS: 2,295 yen = $29.40 (5pin harness not included)

Buttons:

Sanwa OBSF-30 button (single):

LL: $ 2.95

eT: $2.30

GS: 1.70 GBP = $2.60

AS: 189 yen = $2.40

Price conversion done with XE currency convertor app.

Just one last question though: How does the Korean Crown buttons compare to the Japanese Sanwa/Seimitsu buttons in terms of quality?

@WolfCrimson they can be hit or miss. personally i bought 8 for my ascii stick and 2 just would not work. In feel they are in between a seimitsu and sanwa in tension. Nice buttons but get extra just in case. You can always dremel for a bigget size. And i think an ls-33 would fit with less fuss than a jlf. Not sure how you feel about that stick.

also if you're looking for a case, you can always get a simplesticks case from one of the basic builders at SRK

cases from him range from 40-50 unpainted and he has shipped out internationally before

i didn't comment on the korean buttons since i haven't used them as of yet but i do plan on making a korean stick for the fun of it sometime soon

hey mort, do you know if there's a 360 PCB that's made similarly to the PS3 cthulhu? i got asked to do a dual mod and i wanna see if i can minimize my soldering and wiring.

oh hmmm

sorry about not answering earlier kayeff....

360 pcb like a cthulhu?

nothing custom is coming out for a 360 b/c of the security issues with Microsoft so sadly the answer is no.

crimp down and assess

Dude that's a horrible crimp. You're letting too much wire out of the cable. If you don't get that locked down, you risk causing a tear (or even a short) when the cable gets twisted.

Posted (edited)

oh sup d3v, you were right about that actually, that's actually a bit bigger than the length the crimper has me cut, but it was locked down properly thank goodness

however....

i have half a mind to infract you now because you quoted images~

lucky DL doesn't have that sort of rule~

SRKTT joke

Nope, LS32-01 has a PCB that converts it to 5 pins by connecting the common ground.

(IIRC, I think there's also a LS32-02, but then I wouldn't know what the differences are.)

Hey guys, I have finally decided to look for an arcade stick because I doubt my Dpad can take much more of a beating, any recommendations for a first time buyer? My limit is about £150 but I could probably raise it up by about £20 max

Maybe a TE or HRAP V3/VX. They already come with good parts. Depends on which wrist area style you like better, one is flat and the other is slanted.

I'd recommend a Qanba Q4RAF 3-in-1. Those were pretty hot, and still mostly are. Easy-to-use dualmod right out of the box, and a great price to boot. From what I can tell on its thread on SRK, it's got awesome customer service as well, if any issues arise. Pretty easy to mod the artwork or buttons and joystick as well, if you ever want to.

I think you'd be able to get it at Gremlin Solutions.

Best as I can tell, it's relatively difficult, verging on the impossible, to pay $150 for a commercial stick and get a bad product. I'm sure it's POSSIBLE, but I'm not entirely sure how. All the offerings that range (Various TEs from Madcatz, various HRAP products, Qanba, etc) are all really solid pieces of work and you're unlikely to be super disappointed with any of them. Obviously, there are differences, but they're not going to fundamentally impair you.

that is correct, if you really want to blow money since 150 pounds = about like 200 or so, you can look into customs as well

Thanks for your suggestions guys, I might look into that Q4RAF because of the PC and Xbox compatibility on top of the PS3, customisation is also something I'd like to try so that's another plus.

if it works for xbox it generally works for pc anyways

if it works for ps3 it most likely will work for PC

i hate it when people advertise PC separately like xbox or ps3 doesn't do that already

Will ask this here, since everyone's talking about custom sticks.

What pcb would be best? Chtulu (or w/e it is called) or the fucking hard to find ps360+? first one is 50bucks iirc but it has ps3, ps2, pc, dreamcast and other consoles support, while other is cheaper but its ps3, 360 and pc only :(

you get a cthulhu for 50 bucks?

derpy derperton

its only 35USD + 12 in shipping for overseas direct from the manufacturer

gdlk.co

as for the PS360+, you can't find it because its not released yet. its been a year and a bit since it "should have been" released but its being fine tuned even more after what happened at the vanilla ps360's launch
