hey lord knight assuming you know how to play with the whole cast which one would you take to counter hakumen?

since makoto can't use her oki why is she good against hakumen?

Because 6B~C > 214A~C~A combos. This allows her to turn any hit from anywhere into huge damage for no meter.

Don't take it anymore. If you get mad, frustrated, or sad, use that energy productively to fuel your desire to get better. Review your matches, ask your opponents in player matches and/or on here about ways you can improve your game, and be open/honest with yourself. Failure is one of life's best teachers.

So LK How was casuals?

Who did you play against?

Did you feel like you level'd up quite a bit at EVO?

Can I be cool and wear shades too?

Casuals were fun. I played against everyone. I feel really good about the game right now, but there are definitely some things I have to revise/update.

Wear whatever you want.

How does it feel to beat me in tournament

:[

I guess "finally" is the only way to describe it?

Hey Choke Knight, why you choke?

Seriously question, where are some of the common areas in a block string where a staff'd Litchi would attempt to set it to continue pressure.

Also would like some example block strings if possible.

Hey OmniChoke. Litchi can/would put down the stick to attempt pressure after every single normal besides 6D and 6B (because she can't).

Haha, I thought you played well too. All I have to say is practice and try to not lose! Valk is so good, rushdown too good, wolf 5B anti-air too good. . . you've got all the tools.

LK, Marvel MM at summer jam?

You said you were gonna pick it up after Evo.

I don't play kusoge :/

Still.

How does unblockables work, besides hitting a low and a high at the same time. For example, arakune's set up with 2C and bell bug. 2C is level 4, so leaves you with 18f block stun. During those 18f can you switch to blocking highs? If you can, then true unblockables are only if both attacks hit within the frame? If they are 1 frame apart it should technically be blockable but just difficult right?

thats how unblockables usually work, you can switch blocking anytime, but being able to tell what to block first and switch blocking fast enough is the main problem in an unblockable setup

mainly when people mess up unblockables is when they mistime one or both of the moves, but it can still catch the other person because they didnt block the first move correctly or switch blocking in time

also seeing and physically switching blocking in 1 frame is quite possibly impossible

I'll come to Toronto one day. One day...

It's an hour and half ride. Fuck that. Why can't you come to Waterloo instead :(

I was happy for you, and you got further than I would have if I had won, so cheers.

LK, on the match with spark, you did something like.. 5aaa or 2aaa at some point to pressure spark..

what's the point of it? =/

:v:

I was just thinking that pressing the other buttons would've been better?

/me and my silly question... :vbang:

oh no, i thought you were doing "=/" because you thought it was a stupid tactic.

mashing 5A and 2A in pressure is mostly used to keep them in blockstun and make them feel pressured, until they either keep blocking and you try a mixup (high low or throw) or they try to mash out of it and get hit.

Posted

=/ <--- I meant this as more like a.. "hmmm...why do that?" in a respective manner of course...

and to be honest, I originally thought that LK was doing 5aaa/2aaa to buy himself some time to think what to do next since most of his mixups are compromised in the previous rounds...

I kinda tend to think that some 2-option mixups just won't work twice...

Posted

Litchi's 5A is +3 on block, there's nothing wrong with using it during pressure against Hakumen/Tager, it's a huge benefit to the matchup. Not to mention one of those "2-option mixups" is a real 50/50 and can't be blocked on pure reaction.

errr...which of those "2-option mixups" do you mean? ;D

I have ]m[ 5aaa 6a/2b/3c in my mind...

*cmiiw, 2a hits as mid?

5a is:

+ on block

+ prevents them from mashing out and forces them to use barrier

+ a decent pressure tool

+ puts them in block stun so you can think of what to do next

+provides options for further mixups including tick throw

- only hits big chars crouching so you cant spam it

-small AA hit box so you cant spam it ground to air unless they are barrier blocking

- provides alot of meter for chars that rely heavily on IB ie. tager, haku

5A j.C]m[ RC j.CB/(2B or 3C or Haku) on Hakumen and Tager, the only characters 5A hits crouching.

LK, how do you combat tourney nerves? I've only competed in SCR last nov and evo, I did alright both times, but I was extremely disappointed with my performance even still. Is there any mindset that keeps you from being your own worst enemy?

I find myself blanking out on certain strategies and giving my opponent too much credit when the spotlight is on.

Posted

I don't do fighting game tournaments but I do play in tennis tournaments, the thing about nerves is you just gotta get out there enough and you'll get used to them. But on that note, it's different for everyone really. Some people listen to music, wear shades, have rituals they follow beforehand, or just straight up overcome them. You said you play worse on spotlight, what you gotta do is close out the world and only focus on the match. Your thoughts should only be about the match, and how you will beat your opponent. Basically you just need something to help you concentrate.

What few tournies I went to, I decided to listen to George Carlin routines and I had a friend who wore shades like LK does. Think outside the box if you have to, and do what works for you. Straight ignoring people did not work for me.
