dice Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 There are alot of Characters with amazing corner trap gamepla,e.g (eddie corner trap, Testament exe beast 5s corner trap games etc) u know what i mean. Many Characters us different means to engage in corner traps either by jumping in (e.g baikens carpet trap, sols jumpin mix ups) or by ground attacks. What I wanted to know and see is that what specific tactics do each of use to get out of corners with specific characters you face. Like do you block a string and then dead angel, wat if there isnt tension for dead angel, do you tension block then dash back at a certain point? just in gerneral when u face a specific characters pressure what is ur means of escaping the corner pretty much .
DandyStepper Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Block(FD or not) till pressure is over,Dead Angle, 1-frame jump through pressure holes, burst(not really a good idea but meh),Instant Block punish(by means of SRKs, Potbuster whatever), Instant Block backdash, even mashing on punch to get some space can work. But blocking is by far the best. Even Defense can get character specific.
MacArthur Blunts Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Backdashing is never a good idea in the corner Backdashing is used to create space while being somewhat invunerable. In the corner you get no space, only a little invul and a lot of eating a combo.
MacArthur Blunts Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Try Potemkin BDB That is potemkin. Who only has 1 vunerable frame on his backdash. Characters like PO and SL can get away with it, but anyone else gets (this is just an example) 5H'ed by SL. That equals a whole lot of pain.
4r5 Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Backdashing is never a good idea in the corner depends on what you are trying to backdash
Hellmonkey Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Backdashing is never a good idea in the corner Tell that to Satoshi vs N-O in the SBO semifinals. lol.
purify Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 1 frame jump, IB, slashback, DA, FD, uppercut, there's plenty of options...you just have to know the right one. Generally though I just block and wait for a hole to knock them down, throw, stun dipper under something, sweep, etc.
Koozebanian Fazoob Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 dice - I think you might be better off asking in specific character Matchup threads or whatever. There are tons of different matchups and they might all involve knowing a handful of different places or ways to escape pressure. What's been listed so far are all of the generic techniques that everyone can use (like Backdash, Instant Block, Slash Back, FD, DAA), but nothing is really guaranteed to work in all situations, and what works for one character might not work at all for a different one. If you have specific help VS certain characters then you should ask about them.
Darkhonor90 Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 IT really depends on what your backdashing in the coner. Depending on your characters backdash/invisibiltiy you can backdash certain moves and grab for example
Darcius Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 invisibiltiy You can turn invisible with characters that aren't Chipp? I can see how that would provide a pretty solid means to get out of the corner.
Darkhonor90 Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 i'm pretty sure he meant to say "invincibility". I did =O <3
Mitsurugi Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 Invincibility Vs Invisibility, duel 1, Let's ROCK ! Depending on your characters backdash/invisibiltiy you can backdash certain moves and grab for example Well, maybe we can fix this last sentence of yours then : Oops I did it again =O <3 Just joking, no offense meant Darkhonor.
Xeno Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 Does 1-frame jump refer to using FD during jump to cancel the animation? (only beginner/moderate player here
Digital Watches Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 Does 1-frame jump refer to using FD during jump to cancel the animation? (only beginner/moderate player here Yeah. The easiest way to tell that you've done it right is that the large cloud of dust that normally comes off the ground when you jump... won't.
burningvigor Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 Heres a special technique I've developed over the years. When you are stuck in the corner... slam your hand onto the cabinent and say BURST. Theres a good chance the guy will stop thinking your going to burst. Only works probably once on that person and even then its a 50/50. Must have a burst in hand for this to work for a higher chance. lol some people on dustloop fell for it.. rofl you know who you are.
MacArthur Blunts Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 stop, thinking or stop thinking? COMMA USAGE CHANGES STRATS! But yeah, I do that too sometimes I'll slam on the buttons hard at a common burst point to try to make them drop the combo. it rarely works.
Teyah Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 If you suspect your opponent listens for your inputs on occasion and you've got loud/clicky/American buttons on your stick, you can try hitting two buttons really hard during an obvious B&B combo starter. The recognizable sound of your loud buttons may cue them off to block an incoming burst.. but if you hit something like P+K instead of D+S, you get nothing, then you can tech away to safety. I used to do this on rare occasions (with mild success) on my old Happ stick against some people I suspected of said cheating. ...

Whenever I Grand Viper I tend to mash immediately after 214S, so everyone hears and reacts to it immediately. I used this to my advantage tonight when I was in a corner against St1ckBuG (JA). He thought I was going to GV out with my super hawt pre-emptive GV mashing, but I actually riot stomped (yes, in the corner, doesn't make it much better but certainly better than anywhere else). It made for many lulz.
