SolxBaiken Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Episode 2 impressions: + Choke-U-Man (once you grab someone by the throat, it's no longer practice) and smacking away Dead Spike (get that shit outta here!) + Musical score still continues to impress + Increased focus really help this episode feel alot less random and disjointed than the first (though it still suffers from less than optimal pacing) - Still looks like ass, inconsistency keeps taking me out of the moments [the action set pieces especially fall just short of being amazing] and confirmed that the entire budget was wasted on a making Noel look like a magical girl - Sloppy pacing makes emotional weight and general stakes feel extremely fabricated (I can't imagine it having the same significance between someone who has knowledge of the source material vs someone who doesn't) - Confusing, and this is an issue that plagues the source material, however now it's more profound - Creative liberties are...interesting... (and no, clones still don't work that way...) I'm still disappointed in how Calamity Trigger was handled but I suppose it makes sense, it has been adapted numerous times outside of the game, unlike Continuum Shift and arguable nothing really happens in CT anyways. I think CS was their goal all along and CT was just a sort of arbitrary self-imposed prerequisite.
mAc Chaos Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 - Creative liberties are...interesting... (and no, clones still don't work that way...) That was from CT itself. LionHeartx Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Looks like Mori spend the bulk of the animation budget on Noel. I don't know why I'm surprised by that. Ok good so I'm not the only one who noticed this. Dammit Mori.
Narroo Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Wow, I think this was even worse. And the retconns! Apparently Noel may not even recognize Bolverk now. Besides that, the ending was done so...wrongly. It got the feel completely wrong. Granted, that was probably more due to the lack of appropriate build up, but Noel was supper out-of-character compared to the game.
BlackYakuzu94 Posted October 15, 2013 Author Posted October 15, 2013 (edited) Episode starts with Hakumen using 6A through a wall? Already better than episode 1. But yea, this episode felt like a massive improvement: Pros: +Far Better pacing than the previous episode +Musical score continues to impress +Characterization is a bit more solid(We never did know for sure if Ragna hated the world enough to want to destroy it). Cons: -Animation still is pretty meh in a lot of places, and I hated how they seemingly wasted the budget on Noel summoning Bolverk. - No "Ragna vs. Hakumen" theme, the best place to fucking use it and you don't. Why Mori. At the very least, they at least can have better focus when it comes to Continuum Shift. Edited October 15, 2013 by BlackYakuzu94
Zazz Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 random thoughts: some animation was good, some was super weird and totally off. and is hakumen gonna have to choke a ragna?! well it looks like we totally blasted through CT and the rest of the show is CS? i totally forgot Kokonoe bailed out Ragna from his fight with Unlimited Hakumen. I also was very surprised about how Noel was totally like "Yeah I'm No. 12." I half expected some stein combos even though its way too early for that.

The moment she sees Nu and the Cauldron she just goes autopilot robot mode, that is why she starts freaking out later when she comes back to her wits but finds out she's in the middle of a fight.

I haven't played CT for a while.
Master Of Chaos Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 (edited) Haku 6A fuck yes KOKONOE THEME YES PLZ! Also Ragna vs Haku fight be kickass. Dat Rebellion remix. Ragna vs Nu did not disappoint me. I just wish these battles would be a bit longer. Anyway, I'm now eager for Terumi to make his debut. Edited October 15, 2013 by Master Of Chaos
Vulcan422 Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 No "Ragna vs. Hakumen" theme, the best place to fucking use it and you don't. Why Mori. Because it doesn't exist this early in the story.
Appledash- Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 I really want a gif of Noel Summoning Bolverk. I'm not sure that spending the whole episode's animation budget on those couple seconds was wise however.
-Seo Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Because it doesn't exist this early in the story. Neither does Kokonoe's theme.
Shadow Draygon Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 I really want a gif of Noel Summoning Bolverk. I'm not sure that spending the whole episode's animation budget on those couple seconds was wise however. Better than the rest of the series. 3 pages back.
Grimsley-San Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Cons: -Animation still is pretty meh in a lot of places, and I hated how they seemingly wasted the budget on Noel summoning Bolverk. At the very least, they at least can have better focus when it comes to Continuum Shift. The animation where Ragna gets hit through the pillars looked pretty lazy.
Appledash- Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 3 pages back. Aww yiss, people who read are the best
BlackYakuzu94 Posted October 15, 2013 Author Posted October 15, 2013 Because it doesn't exist this early in the story. Neither does Kokonoe's theme :\
Master Of Chaos Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Neither does Kokonoe's theme. READ PEOPLE READ
Dazardz Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Kokonoe's theme really fit that scene imo, I actually found it kind of funny, with Kokonoe trying to slave Haku again. Anyone else find it funny?
Betto Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 KOKONOE THEME YES PLZ! I definitely did not notice that. Gonna rewatch it for that. Thanks for the heads up! Still disappointed it was Susanooh and not Ragna vs. Hakumen during the whole fight
blackhybrid Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 It was a better episode than the first one, that Noel fight though lol. The transformation sequence she had was cool, and then... pew pew pew pew pew lol.
Errol Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Why did noel summon guns, aren't they just a physical object.
Tokkan Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Why did noel summon guns, aren't they just a physical object. Up until CP, where she now keeps them in holsters, she's always been summoning them out of thin air.
Appledash- Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Why did noel summon guns, aren't they just a physical object. She always summons them before CP, where she gets holsters. EDIT: ninja'd
Errol Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 ok what the heck was with the part where nu just chested noel
