TheRealBobMan Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 And this is assuming a majority of people here aren't going import it anyway as soon as it's released on consoles in Japan. Yeah, I would assume they'd have a digital version (even if they do a physical release) since they're so profitable. If that's the case, since it's so easy to make a JP PSN account (most of us already have one), I'd buy it digitally, and then get a physical release when it comes out in the US however long later.
TAI-X Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 (edited) Aksys or whoever publishes it here will probably push out a localization as fast as possible, maybe even a simultaneous console release with Japan. This isn't Blazblue, which doesn't sell anywhere near enough US copies to justify pouring all their resources into it. GG is Arc's flagship series, so Xrd will likely be riding a huge wave of hype after the full cast is revealed and we start getting unedited match footage from arcades. Another thing is that it's going to be an early PS4 title, so a lot of early adopters will pick it up just to have something to play. If it's anything like the PS3, the system will be starved for good games during its first couple of years. The only snag I could see getting in the way is that no one has any experience releasing stuff on PS4 yet. Edited September 16, 2013 by TAI-X
redsilversnake Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 It's actually also announced for "Spring 2014" on the official Xrd website, so... http://ggxrd.com/product/ So it is. Guess I was behind on updates. Still, good to hear. Aksys or whoever publishes it here will probably push out a localization as fast as possible, maybe even a simultaneous console release with Japan. Simultaneous console release with Japan only happens with big, popular titles, which GG isn't. Also, BB has done well for Aksys; their big sellers right now are apparently their VNs, but BB has hardly been a loss for them.
Circuitous Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Aksys isn't publishing for ASW anymore. They've been handling it themselves for a while now, mostly through PSN/XBLA (and just PSN anymore).
Chaoschao222 Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Aksys isn't publishing for ASW anymore. They've been handling it themselves for a while now, mostly through PSN/XBLA (and just PSN anymore). BBCP is being published here by Aksys, though.
BladeOfJustice7 Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 ArcSys handling their digital releases is, what I assume, why they've been so tardy and inconsistent especially when it comes to the international digital market. I didn't even know initially who bought their games if I remember correctly.
Narroo Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 BBCP is being published here by Aksys, though. I thought it was confirmed that ArcSystems was doing the localization?
SolxBaiken Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Simultaneous console release with Japan only happens with big, popular titles, which GG isn't. Well CT released within the same week for Japan and NA while CS was within the same month, if I recall correctly CSE had a massive delay as ARC was handling the localization themselves while Aksys did little more than distribution. And wasn't P4U also a month apart? All guesses at this point are just that, but really it just comes down to planning of the Developer and Publisher's side, they are aware well before hand of their international market value and presence so trying to tighten release plans for different territories is within the cards. I thought it was confirmed that ArcSystems was doing the localization? To clarify, I don't believe it was [clearly] stated if the actual localization was being handled by ARC themselves or another third party, but Aksys is indeed handling the physical distribution of the product to NA.
Kurushii Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 BBCT was a 5 day gap. Aksys localized. BBCS was a 26 day gap. Aksys localized. BBCS2 update for PS3 was 2 days late for Japan, and 7 days late for US. 360 versions were same day on both regions. BBCSE was a 59 day gap. ASW localized. P4U was a 12 day gap. BBCP is being localized by ASW. Aksys is only publishing for US once again. It's going to be maybe double the gap of BBCSE lol.
SolxBaiken Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Yes but keep in mind CSE and CP also released very late in the year at the worst possible time for NA. Sending out a small, unadvertised title during the holiday season is financial suicide which is what numerous games try to avoid. CT, CS, and P4U all released in the summer, a usually desolate time frame. Thus the length between releases for Xrd is very much heavily reliant on when they settle on a firm date.
LeDom Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 BBCP is being localized by ASW. Aksys is only publishing for US once again. It's going to be maybe double the gap of BBCSE lol. Then again, this might be a good thing, as it would give more time for the localization team and translators, thus reducing the risks of mistakes. For CS2, some of the english voice actors weren't available and therefore had to be replaced temporarily. And as for Extend...in CTR, some lines were actually left undubbed and there were other times when the text and voices didn't fit (IE, Bang's line about Jin's ice cars). And on the topic of Xrd, I'm pretty sure ASW want it to be a big popular title, so its NA release may actually be not too long after the JPN release...though it might take much longer if they're getting it dubbed.
Vulcan422 Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 And as for Extend...in CTR, some lines were actually left undubbed. I believe this is actually a PS3-only glitch where certain lines accidentally play the Japanese clip. This has never happened to me on 360.
Rhiya Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Yeah... I think ArcSys has just forgotten they released AC+ on PSN internationally at this point, and give no fucks about 360 whatsoever.
TheRealBobMan Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Yeah... I think ArcSys has just forgotten they released AC+ on PSN internationally at this point, and give no fucks about 360 whatsoever. Nah, while I don't use Twitter I've heard that they're getting bombarded with plenty of "when's our +R?!". There's no way they forgot. Also, ArcSys is localizing Chaos Code or something like that right? I was linked a twitter post where the devs for that tried to contact ArcSys and they didn't seem to know who those people were, so they definitely need to pay more attention.

I was linked a twitter post where the devs for that tried to contact ArcSys and they didn't seem to know who those people were, so they definitely need to pay more attention. They were the ones who released Chaos Code in NA, yes, and the developer's English language rep (at least, I think that's his job) did indeed get in touch with them and he seemed out of the loop. So yeah, it does look like their US branch is wrought with oversights.

TheRealBobMan Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Hah, that reminded me that there were typos on the box when CT shipped.
Kitsoru Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 If you've ever read through the Arc USA twitter it's not hard to see that it's not exactly a professional operation...
Narroo Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 If you've ever read through the Arc USA twitter it's not hard to see that it's not exactly a professional operation... I haven't. How bad is it?
Fenrir Werwolf Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 I haven't. How bad is it? It's like a personal twitter of this guy, but instead it's the ASW official one He spam with things he like (shoes, vg and such), and sometime post ASW news that anyone already knows about It's not like THAT terrible, but is quite usuless and the "bro" attitude is kinda unprofessional and irritating Back on xrd, TGS in afew days, and we're expecting some news by Ishiwatari. I'm expecting, clearly, a statement for I-No and Axl, and maybe some other reveal? Since vastedge is fully revealed, maybe he'll say something about it and the connections to xrd (chara and such)?
Rhiya Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 (edited) I don't mind the casual attitude. XSEED's twitter is really casual feeling, but it's one of the better company Twitters I've seen. What bothers me is the lack of meaningful updates, and poor responses to information requests. Just for reference: https://twitter.com/XSEEDGames https://twitter.com/ArcSystemWorksU/ To be fair, XSEED has a bit of a leg up in that they localize titles people were afraid they'd never get, while ArcSys US delays the shit out of things we knew we'd get. >_> Edited September 17, 2013 by Dusk Thanatos
TAI-X Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 What the hell do they even do at the Arc USA office? Sit around smoking bowls all day? Dorito-eating contests? It's like a few clueless brodudes got together and decided to call themselves Arc System Works.
BladeOfJustice7 Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 It's like a few clueless brodudes got together and decided to call themselves Arc System Works. Probably one of the funniest things I've read in this thread. One thing is for sure, they need to change their policies when it comes to how they handle their international market if they expect to really challenge Capcom and others here in the West, because these sort of things hold ArcSys back. Nevermind Xrd has the biggest hype following compared to any of their other games, if they're still inconsistent with regards to marketing and following favouritism when it comes to releases they'll lose their foothold here that they managed to establish with the Xrd trailers.
