ElvenShadow Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 Any impressions for the console version from Evo?
Uncivilized Elk Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 I never liked Sol 3D model but now that we have seen his 3D model in that early prototype, seriously ASW, why?. Not too fond of the shoulders, but the picture on the right makes Sol look so damn boring. Definitely prefer what they actually went with.
NesmerII Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 For some reason I highly doubt the prototype Sol design would look even half as good in motion as the current Sol design/art style. Xrd's graphical impact is best demonstrated when moving, and that impact is intense to say the least. I hate the roid shoulders as much as anyone, but that 3D prototype Sol model almost looks like it belong in SS4. I'll take the awesome cel shading and classic Sol-style costume thanks The hair definitely looks better on the prototype though. That much I will admit.
kosmos badgirl Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 Not too fond of the shoulders, but the picture on the right makes Sol look so damn boring. Definitely prefer what they actually went with. I have no problem with the current costume, is just the body, the shoulders, tiny head, the prototype has, let's say, a normal skeleton. But anyway, my main is I-No and she looks awesome in Xrd
AllyOfJustice Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 I never liked Sol 3D model but now that we have seen his 3D model in that early prototype, seriously ASW, why?. The right one looks pretty cool. If they were going for a new design like Potemkin and Millia I wouldn't mind that Sol at all. No hideous arm, the hair isn't bigger than his head, and less of the identical belts next to each other. The one on the left is classic Sol though, and he looks so moe with that ribbon and ponytail. Maybe there will be DLC costumes. Prototype Sol, Order Sol, Sol the Bloodedge, Ryu Badguy..
zerosoulreaver Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 People are still complaining about this? I thought this day 1 stuff was over with? I do think they will have classic costumes like for Millia and Pot...but that's just a guess. Overall, once you actually see the character models in action is completely different than just looking at screenshots. My point is watch some vids on the game and look how Sol looks then, he looks like classic Sol and doesn't really seem as big as his model may imply on first glance.
ZenTzen Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 Any impressions for the console version from Evo? theres the Madcatz stream where stickbug is discussing the game during some casual matches
JCraile Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 As long as it follows 7 or 8 head tall rule, had no problems with Xrd's character visuals. Personally, I find Xrd Sol manlier than his previous versions.
Blade Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 We finally know Sin's Gear fractions! Doesn't change the fact that he's a Gear. Doesn't change the fact that he can be controlled by a Command Type either. Guilty Gear isn't like Dragonball Z/Naruto where "Bloodline"/"Kekkei Genkai" gets diminished/enhanced through the generations (even though Sol made fun of Sin for it once). Once converted in to a Gear, there doesn't seem to be a way to reverse it. Gears already had human DNA to begin with, so it's redundant. I think the Sol look-alike was the "sandbag/fall guy" they used (he probably is a parody of one of the developers on the team). Those screens just prove it's VERY POSSIBLE to give us alternate costumes and battle damage characters. :D

Unless the writers randomly decide otherwise, which they can do because it's a fictional universe, wheeee!
BladeOfJustice7 Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 Unless the writers randomly decide otherwise, which they can do because it's a fictional universe, wheeee! lol Anyways, where are those Sol Badguy vs Sol Fraudguy that the article linked to from? Are they from the pachinko game or wtv? And when are we going to get a demonstration from Sin, i wanna know what his eating mechanics are like, surely papa Ky and mama Dizzy gave him more than just meat to eat. I'm wondering if he has different things to eat that'll affect how much full gauge you'll have. The heftier the meal the longer it takes for him to eat but the longer he'll stay full, or if he only has that anime-meat-on-a-stick to eat. Also I want to know if that raging storm like move is a legit dp or not, and if that screenshot I saw is his counter stance from Overture. ARGH so much HYPE!!!!
SolxBaiken Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 Anyways, where are those Sol Badguy vs Sol Fraudguy that the article linked to from? Are they from the pachinko game or wtv? They're from a prototype build of Xrd.
Blade Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 Sol Fraudguy, lol we need him in the game's training mode. He can be the new "Dan" for GGXrd.
BladeOfJustice7 Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 They're from a prototype build of Xrd. Is there any confirmation that Sol Fraudguy will be the next playable character? it would give me a fourth character to sub, and it would give GG their own Dan. (half joke) It would be funny if he was playable though at some point though... Is anyone interested in translating that article? I really would like to know the process in which they made the characters looks so anime/2d despite it being 3d, and what's the arduous process of doing so.
Anne Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 Friendly reminder there is a story thread in another forum ^_^
White Man Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 Sol Fraudguy, lol we need him in the game's training mode. He can be the new "Dan" for GGXrd. Better yet, make that the name of a new character that uses Sol's current model and has basically the same move set except for some different specials that recycle existing animations. I hear that's a thing fighting game developers are doing now.
Suzaku Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 Those screens just prove it's VERY POSSIBLE to give us alternate costumes and battle damage characters. :D Actually, reading what I can of the article makes it clear that alternate costumes wouldn't exactly be the easiest thing ever. The models and animations themselves are no problem, really, it's the amount of work that goes into perfecting the way the mesh and textures interact with the lighting of each frame to ensure that the shadows look correct. That's not to say we won't get alternate costumes eventually, and some would certainly be easier than others, but I imagine that art tasks for adding new characters to the roster will take priority.
Blade Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 I think ARC should ask Dimps for help on this when it comes to the 3D stuff if they're having problems. Since Dimps is more of a 'talent outsource' group anyway. That's just my thoughts on it though, since ARCSys is so small yet. Does anyone know any decent Bedman combo videos, all I've seen is bed-flip spam all day in matches (I'd like to see his other stuff if possible).
NesmerII Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 That Bed-flip move reminds me of how much I hated watching Bullet gameplay when CP hit arcades. All it was was that same air combo into that ugly as sin downwards kick
SoWL Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 That Bed-flip move reminds me of how much I hated watching Bullet gameplay when CP hit arcades. All it was was that same air combo into that ugly as sin downwards kick Yeah, and now Bullet somehow manages to finish her combos in some other way and still get her Heat-Up charges, right? Can't say the same for sure about Bedman, but usually, when people use the same move all the time, it deserves it.
Layer Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 I don't know about them outsourcing. Arc seems pretty steady on the idea of them doing the majority of things in-house, with the whole localizing and all. Though I'm still bewildered everytime I watch the announcement trailer and I see Unreal Engine pop up.
Henaki Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 licensing an engine is completely different than managing people overseas or dealing with version differences, script submission/changes, approving requests etc
shinr Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 Though I'm still bewildered everytime I watch the announcement trailer and I see Unreal Engine pop up. Seems it will not be that unusual in the future now that Tekken 7 will be using Unreal Engine 4. Speaking of UE4, is there is any advantage for ARC to upgrade to it sooner rather than later?
Layer Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 Oh I know they're are two totally different aspects of game development. I'm just surprised that a Japanese company outsourced an American engine. I know some japanese companies do that like Capcom and Namco and Suda 51, but today many companies are still stuck in the stereotypical old fashion idea of relying only on themselves. But that's changing as the years go by that's for sure. Will make their life easier in the end I believe.
9:02 PM Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 Played the game quite a bit at EVO this weekend. Add me to the list of people who think the game speed is right where it should be.
