redsilversnake Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 I'm just surprised that a Japanese company outsourced an American engine. That's not outsourcing. From what I understand, the way it works is that you buy a license for the engine, which isn't the same as paying another company to do some work for you. So all ASW had to do was get the engine and familiarize themselves with it. Seems it will not be that unusual in the future now that Tekken 7 will be using Unreal Engine 4. Speaking of UE4, is there is any advantage for ARC to upgrade to it sooner rather than later? From the way my brother explains it, it doesn't really sound like there's much advantage to certain companies using UE4. According him, the license for it is only twenty dollars, but that's made up for by also taking 15% of the gross revenue of any game developed with it. I'm not sure how much that'd affect a company like Namco Bandai, but ASW is still pretty small, so they'd probably get hit harder. For now, I'd say they're more likely to stick to UE3.
zdravkelja Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 They probably used UE3 because PS3 doesn't support UE4.
redsilversnake Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 I'd argue that it was because UE4 wasn't even available for use until the month after Xrd's release, but hey, you're entitled to your opinion.

Blade Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Well, the way I see it, the longer it takes ARCSys to "learn" how to use Unreal 3/4, the more problems they're going to have down the line with releases (delays, bugs, etc). I know doing stuff in-house is cheaper and all, but even Capcom asked Dimps for help when making SFIV. Co-developing is what Dimps does, really. They fill the H.R. holes that need filling for talent (kinda like a business talent agency for human resources). And even Platinum games helped Konami with Metal Gear Rising on top of that... so co-development isn't so uncommon anymore.
BladeOfJustice7 Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 http://www.dustloop.com/wiki/images/c/c6/GGAC_Jam_632146S.png This super might just challenge Zansei Rouga and HPB as one of the coolest cinematic supers in Xrd. What moves will Jam be losing since she's "reverting" to her #R moveset? Will she still have puff ball and mach dash?
Blade Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Am I missing something? What does Jam have to do with GGXrd right now?
NesmerII Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 I'll second that sentiment. Gah. ALMOST thought there was a post evo surprise reveal

SoWL Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 He obviously means that when (not if) Jam comes back, that super is probably the one that is going to be her cinematic one. That last question also doesn't imply Jam to be confirmed - people asked the same thing about Johnny, and no one jumped at their throats for the "fake leaks" or whatever.
Pichy Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 What moves will Jam be losing since she's "reverting" to her #R moveset? Will she still have puff ball and mach dash? Nothing besides FB charge, FB Puffball and the AC 6H. Jam's changes were mostly move property adjustments (IAD Card shoryu comes to mind), damage and stun adjustments (why hello there #R counterhit puffball) and adjusting the input of her parry from 46 to 546 so she couldn't just mash parry in the other guy's blockstrings and get stupid punishes for no effort. Jam was always solid as hell.
Uncivilized Elk Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 And even Platinum games helped Konami with Metal Gear Rising on top of that... so co-development isn't so uncommon anymore. Lol... helped. You mean they got all the material already created, decided to scrap it all, and remade the entire game in 6 months by themselves XD. Sorry, that's off-topic, but yeah. If you do have independent studios, especially ones that keep themselves from going broke by the skin of their teeth, they will collaborate on anything as long as they get paid. I honestly don't know how many studios of that sort exist though, and Platinum Games is surely the only one I keep track of because they are pretty damn amazing.
AllyOfJustice Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 I'll second that sentiment. Gah. ALMOST thought there was a post evo surprise reveal I'm waiting for a surprise reveal everyday. Baiken, Johnny, Justice, Zappa, Bridget, Dizzy, anyone. I may be wrong but didn't they say the console version will have extra character(s)? Maybe someone else will be added after Sin?

I will be shocked if the console version does not have more new characters, but my feeling is that they are going to abuse DLC with this game.
Calamitus Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 One new character as console boss is guaranteed. They had enough time on their hands since arcade release to make more characters. Current roster is fine though. (i dont think i will see my main Justice anytime soon, but we will meet again one day).

Calamitus Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Guaranteed how? That just seems like baseless speculation. We had new characters as bosses in X, XX and Overture before, why not? Xrd is a new chapter in Guilty Gear, they surely will spend more time for story mode, thanks to Blazblue's success. Fighting game story without epic fight in the end, i dont remember something like that. Current cast is not suited for this (except Ramlethal, i think). They also have That Man, Raven, the Senate guys and "another Valentine" - potential final opponents. They have added unique bosses even for such minor games like Isuka and Vastedge (Leopaldon and this guy from my avatar). Of course, they can make story mode as the recreation of the arcade events, which is doubtful. If you call it is baseless, i'm expecting to hear arguments against it.
Destin Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 How is X, XX any different from ramethal being playable?
Calamitus Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 How is X, XX any different from ramethal being playable? If they will only recreate arcade mode only as i mentioned before, then you is right, we will see only Ramlethal. X and XX are both pretty old, ASW did not care much about quality of story mode, it was just little addition to the core game. (80% of story mode in XX is different characters are searching for dumb excuses to beat other characters). I think Daisuke aims for something bigger than this (they have more experience, resources and ambition now than 12 years ago). Also, i'm sure they know, that story mode will be boring for players who know that they will just kick Ramlethal in the end. They have 2 routes - classical approach (nobody gives a shit about the story) or modern approach (blazblue).
DeathArcana Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 I hope that the story mode would use the 3d models
D.R.F. Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 I doubt Xrd will have a story mode as long and fleshed out as Blazblue's since that one is pretty much a visual novel. I just spoiled May's arcade scenes for myself and the story is still as nonsensical as ever. I think all the characters just hear about Ramlethal and want to stop her from destroying the world (or for fame/bounty/etc.) Basically, it's just random creature arrives on Earth (who wasn't foreshadowed at all and just exists to be the obligatory boss character), and everyone wants to beat her. No sub-plots or twists like in Blazblue. I just hope it's not as terrible as Accent Core's story mode, where the characters have 1 or 2 lines before they fight for no reason. Well I'd argue that in AC the actual anything revolves around sol, ky, i-no, anji, baiken, and that man, along with HOS later on. Everything else is just happening along with it. Personally its relieving to have a story where not EVERYONE knows EVERYONE for stupid or crazy reasons, which is mostly the way for bb. both stories have their charm though
Blade Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Regarding Story Mode as it was developed: GG: Had a traditional Arcade story in it (when you fight the sub-boss of the game you talk to them, similar to how KOF and Fatal Fury used to do it). GGX: Actually had no story, just winquotes and some Arcade ending pics (most of what you got was off their bios on the official website or the manual). GGPetit: Ironically was the first time the story was ever shown (this game came out before GGXPlus, which is weird). GGXPlus: Mostly text-based story, no voice work with a few battle sequences. GGX Drama CDs: First time they preluded to GGX's events through audio. GGXX: The first time they used full voice work for Story Mode in the game, making it closer to a Visual Novel if anything. This game was almost impossible to decipher with all its alternate routes. <GGXX Drama CDs cover events before the first GG and after GGXX> <manga and novels came out after this time roughly> GGXXAC: More cohesive, but still difficult to find all the routes. GG2: Finally used in-game models and animation to express characters' conversations along with audio... this was later reiterated in BlazBlue's Arcade Mode (usually the halfway point and sub-boss points). GGVastEdge: full animation, but randomly placed and repetitive cut-scenes, so the story is disjointed. GGXrd: Where we are today, still organized like BlazBlue's (after the first few battles you get story, then later on) but more theatrical as far as the story goes. Also the first time character's win quotes are fully voiced. The rest of the story is explained in Material Guides, GG Bible, and Mooks from different places. It's probably too much work to make cut scenes for everything, so we'll have a lot of "standing before a battle talking" moments probably, and "talking head illustrations" like BlazBlue's story mode.
DaiAndOh Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Hey guys, just reminding we do have Zepp Museum for this purpose. Gameplay stuff here.
TAI-X Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 BB didn't have a unique story mode boss (Takemikazuchi) until BBCP. Ram-chan is most likely the only boss you'll be getting in this iteration of Xrd.
BladeOfJustice7 Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 What do the Xrd posters from EVO look like? Is it just the GGXrd logo?
