#R Pot is good, not as good as AC or +R, but still can win the round with about 2 good reads, and has things to punish each enemy's mistake hardly

I don't wish to be negative nancy, nor do I claim to have read the entire thread. But what is the value of GGXrd over GGXXAC or GGXXAC+R? All I'm seeing is that we've lost a lot of characters, that some characters have been stripped to their #Reload versions and that by all graces we get to play Bedman tananananananananana....

What am I missing?

Shiny new coat of paint and removal of FRCs hopefully bringing in kids who would refuse to play something they would otherwise perceive as being old. If that's what it takes to convince people down here to take up the game, then I'm all for it.

It's really too early to be able to really measure the value between Xrd and AC/+R

Xrd is way too far from being completely figured out, game's only like what, one week and half old? It's really impossible to be able to make a fair and reasonable comparison yet.

However, IMHO with the way the RC system works (I'm referring to YRCs) I'd say that there seems to be a lot of potential for far more depth and interesting things compared to the previous games. It's up to the players to bring that out and figure how to successfully make use of it. But it's going to take time, even though we're already seeing many interesting applications.

From a "stylistic" point of view, now that ArcSys has made the transition to 3D, I think we will start to see the end of the "re-used content" era, where characters would have the same sprites for, what, like 10+ years (assuming AC+R has the same sprites as GGX).

It may seem like a lame, "filthy casul" reason, but allowing ArcSys to easily* slap a new coat of paint on Guilty Gear as time goes by is just another factor that can and will increase GG's staying power. Not to mention the new arcade/story cutscenes and possible alt costumes (which for a series as nuts/creative as GG is something to be excited about). It will keep new players playing longer, allowing them the necessary time to realize how awesome GG's mechanics are, which means a larger fanbase and possibly more competent/good players.

No longer will Guilty Gear's awesome gameplay get snubbed because people (worthless scrubs) see it as some antiquated curiosity that is impossible to play. At least, I hope so.

(*Easily compared to redrawing entire sprite sets from scratch)

Doubt it. Capcom's been using the SFIV models for close to 6 years now.

And yes, the same sprites were carried over from GGX through AC+R.

"Doubt it. Capcom's been using the SFIV models for close to 6 years now."

I meant more in terms of characters being able to get new moves/animations without having to rely on the set of sprites that were painstakingly created. Alternate outfits count as well, and they'll inevitably be a hell of a lot cooler than "Cowboy Ken".

Regardless, ArcSys, despite all their problems/issues, is not Capcom. Moreover, even if they didn't change/modify the models over time, XRD looks WAY better, and more importantly, ageless than the lazy, obnoxiously roided-up design from SFIV. The only thing XRD needs to look any more gorgeous than it already does is for more accurate mouth flaps. That's pretty much it.

I mean, didn't Blazblue Chrono Phantasma get completely redrawn sprites? And BBCP is only the 3rd game in a series that is barely 5 years old. Capcom would NEVER do that.

EDIT: Apparently I've forgotten how basic forum quotations work. Oh well....

you can reuse animations, you can't resuse sprites (mostly, you can still reuse animation refs). if they decide to go into another gen and upgrade the graphics again, they might need to udpate everything, but they can use a lot of the stuff as a base.

Prob the biggest benefit to moving to 3D is that the art scales.

GG at 4K res? no prob

This is also a sign that they aren't planning to retire GG anytime soon.

hahaha, faust can use his dust to knock little faust away. that's awesome.

He can do it to every item! I found this out last night. If you do the version of item throw where you hold the button, the items are thrown right in front of Faust. Each item falls at a different speed and some are really hard to hit.

Fastest: candy, bomb, hammer, weight

pretty fast: poison, donut

medium: black hole, spring board

delayed: oil

slow: mini Faust, balloon

Can't hit: meteors

You can also hit them in 2 ways depending on where it hits your bat. One way goes really fast and sorta straight out. Items that normally hit physically will knock down the opponent on impact. Items that don't hit or miss the opponent will fly off screen. The other way you can hit is kinda slower and doesn't go as far. Most items will land on screen and if they hit the opponent they won't knock down.

This tactic is pretty useless generally in matches unless you are full screen and have all day to set it up. You can also hit most items if you throw them normally without the button hold but you need to YRC to get to them in time, with the exception of mini Faust which really seems like the only one generally worth doing it to.

Random Item Baseball is now my favorite thing to do in Sparring Mode now when I am waiting for someone to challenge me in VS mode. See how many items I can hit in a row without missing. Mini games! Someone should throw tournaments just for this! Side tournament at Frosty Faustings VII?!

Also, Reaver, the new RC system is really fun. It makes the game feel a lot more free. I don't miss FRCs to be honest. Trust me, the game is really fun. I understand people being upset about their character not being in the game but that will get fixed over time.

Is it overall a better game than AC or +R? It is way too early to say yet, but I am having tons of fun playing it!

Would like to see Daigo pick up Xrd since it is very close to reload. Would like to see some more ume grand vipers and corner dustloops.

Faust can hit black holes with a baseball bat. That is quite the item to have on your resume. Maybe not so useful if you're a doctor, but still.

Can someone explain what "rejected!" means? Throw tech was the first thing that came to mind, but apparently those aren't in the game :roboky:.

Occurs at 2:24 in this video.
