Developer Diary of the game with Sakurai http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=vQD1yJinzeQ

-The roster size is the same for each version (not sure if characters are the same)

-3DS version has more stages base on handheld games where as Wii U version has stages base on console games

-Samus'design iscloser to Metroid: Other M rather than Super Metroid

-Pit has Upper Dash and Guardian Orbitar

-Villager has lots of moves base on items in Animal Crossing. He can also store items and projectiles and throw them back at the opponent

-MegaMan has Mega Upper (uppercut), slide, Rush Coil (recovery movelike Sonic's Springboard), Mega Buster (can be fired while moving an jumping, can be charged up), Metal Blades (8 directional, can be picked up after use), Crash Bomb (sticks into opponent, behaves like Gooey Bomb from SSBB), Top Spin (forwards moving spinning attack), Hard Knuckle (projectile meteor move) Slash Claw (multi hitting aerial move), Flame Sword (aerial melee move), Spark Shot (charges up, hits upwards) and Flame Blast (surrounds him in flame pillars, both Spark Shot and Flame Burst have cool down)

-Wii Fit Trainer has a lot of moves base on exertices in the Wii Fit games.

Am I the only one who thinks the Wii Fit Trainer is a really cool addition?

I mean, we already had R.O.B.

No, you are not. I would not say cool as much as ... "Ok... that is weird. But I like it? Yeah, let's just go with that. I can live with this."

Personally I just don't see the point in the Wii Fit trainer.

WHAT, exactly, does she add to the game?

In any case, welp, looks like I finally have to buy a 3DS. I held out for this long...good move, Nintendo.

A new character with a unique moveset and fighting style that has not been used before?

And a nicely toned ass.

I'll only be mad about this if Waluigi ends up getting shirked.

Wii Fit Trainer is one of the better joke characters I've seen in a smash roster, also look at it this way: She isn't a clone.

God damn it Nintendo, I thought you'd realized...

There was nothing wrong with Samus' design itself in Other M.

The guest and special characters revealed so far are making the new SSB seem like a lot of good-humored funsies.

This thread is about Smash, and not the Metroid series so I won't make a gigantic fuss and go off-topic past this post, but you are very wrong. Her design in Other M was needlessly prettied up, moreso than usual, but the main issue that that her height and dimensions were retconned into a barbie doll. Unless Anthony Higgs was 9-10 feet tall in that game. I just hoped that Nintendo had realized with the generally poor reception of Other M that they would be better off acting like it hadn't happened, not using it as the baseline for the latest Samus.

I didn't point out any of the other announcements because, besides Other M Samus, I support more developments in the Smash Bros series. Mega Man? Cool, now the fans are (briefly) satisfied. Wii Fit Trainer? A little bit of a risk, and some will say she's a wasted slot, but let's see what they do with her.

Character speculations/wishlists, anyone? I'm curious to see if Nintendo can squeeze any other recent, original IPs into this game. Plus any new guest characters.

Bomberman,

Professor Layton,

Chibi-Robo

let's go

Seeing as the Villager got in, can we have the FE: Awakening avatar as a rep just to break the chain of FE reps being just sword wielders?

Posted

That'd be insanely cool if the 3DS version could read your Fire Emblem file and import your avatar data to be put onto a default template character.

I think if that would be possible, it would also apply to the Villager.

Also, I want SImon Belmont in the game. Just so that I can make references to Captain N

Oh, you're talking about Samus-Samus, I was referring to the Varia Suit in Other M.

Though I had no problems with pretty Samus-Samus, either.

I see the inclusion of the Wii Fit Trainer as Sakurai walking up behind everyone playing Smash at EVO, grabbing their hair, and repeatedly bashing their face into a desk while shouting "STOP! TAKING! THIS! GAME! SO! DAMN! SERIOUSLY!"

Looks fun!

If only it would actually happen...

But nope, we all know it'll become "Competitive."

But yeah, looks like the most fun one yet, can't wait for it to come out.

My hype levels are rising.

Its like god has told me getting a 3DS was the best decision I ever made with my money.

See, early on Sakurai said that they knew who their core audience was and was focusing on making something that caters to them, while still keeping that smash bros feel. Contextually, this leads me to believe that he going in a different direction for this "core audience", if the core audience were the "items on" casuals, then nothing particularly new would have to implemented, and having been in competitive smash, I can say with confidence that most smash bros sales likely comes from those who play competitively. So it's not farfetched to guess that the smash fgc is the "core audience", which is why I think that there is a realistic chance that it could be actually built for serious competition for the first time, if nothing else, it can be played competitively on a serious level like 64 and Melee.

When you say "those who play competitively", what exactly do you mean? As far as people who travel to tournaments and take the game seriously, there's no way they make up even 0.1% of sales. Probably less than 5% of people who own any Smash game even know that tournaments exist for it, let alone what wavedashing is.

On the other hand, if you're talking about the casual crowd who still want the game to be competitively balanced so they can mash with their friends, maybe I can agree with that. But I don't think any of them care how deep the game is.

There is no way in goddamn hell that competitive smash players comprise even 5% of the audience for this game.

Well without hard numbers, it's all conjecture, but I stand by my point.

There is a good chance that this game won't be another Brawl.

I doubt it.

Maybe it will be faster paced though.
