  1. 1. Would you want to attend this tournament?

    • Yes, definitely! I'm 99% sure I'd be able to go!
    • Yes, definitely! But it's too far off to know if I'd be able to go.
    • I'm interested but there's a good chance I can't get the money or time off..
    • You've spark my interest but I need/want more information first.

On a solo note, I could realistically get this done, job allows to get time off fairly easily and in worst case scenario, I'd have to do overtime or switch the time frame of my summer vacation to may/june.

My other concern about the time frame is that such a trip was already more-or-less planned/talked about with a friend of mine who just wants to go see Japan. I could check with him, but AFAIK, he wanted to do a 2-week trip to japan for the end of his studies in 2015. May/june sounds slightly earlier than I'm expecting a semester to end, could be wrong here.

Well, in any case. I'm down to make the necessary planning to make this a reality and I'm currently in a position to say it would realistically be possible (besides laziness to learn some japanese -,-)

I'm down, even though I'd probably have to take the poverty route and be there for the weekend only.

Though I don't know anyone here in particular I think it would be great to meet up with some people for Tokyo for some fun. Though I do have a suggestion is that last time I went to Japan since a friend was living around Kashiwa in Chiba (its halfway between Narita Airport and Tokyo), I decided to get a hotel/inn near there. Its still an urban area but cause of the location the accommodation is a lot cheaper (though you get what you pay for). I could easily commute to central Tokyo in an hour for about 850-980Yen depending on the route you take (there is like 2-3 ways you can get to Tokyo with transfers etc) it only took me like an hour to study the railway to find my way around.

Maybe what I am trying to point out is that you don't NEED to get a hotel in Tokyo if you can find one that is close enough to commute by train, if you want to shave extra cost of your visit.

Though I am not tournament ready yet I think I could learn a few things in two years.

I just wanted to add, I played it up for jokes a bit but poverty plane tickets/lodging not that bad. If you travel light, one modest suitcase, you can stay in manga cafes or capsule hotels and they're quite nice. I actually regretted getting a hotel when I took a trip to Kyoto once because I just have so much fun at these things.

A shitty plane will body you, but just schedule to get there 2 days before the event (you should do this incase of flight delay anyway), and you'll finally be out of jetlag state for the event.

I think for people who are thrifty spenders and don't know any Japanese you should really aim for atleast 2500, but to be completely honest if you're a smart person and don't go into culture shock...you can really lay out a decent 1-week vacation for $2200 and have a great time. I'd just set your cut off at 2000 to be honest. A lot of the cost is variable on what plane tickets you can find.

Be on the look out for plane discounts. One time Delta put out a deal for 830$ round trip to and from Tokyo last August...that would save you over 500$, right? It's all about saving on the plane tickets and lodging if you're tight on cash. Once you actually get here, nothing is too expensive, assuming you're not the type to burn through 500$ in one weekend.

If I'm not working (read: in the middle of the ocean), I'd definitely take leave for something like this.

Hey Stickbug!

I think this is a great idea and I'm behind you 100% on it -- I definitely think the Japanese community would be up for this too and we could rally all of the different scenes together and make it a great event!

I'm down to go too -- I know it's a bit far off at this point, but if you can, it'd be great to run AH3LM (or whatever current iteration of AH is being played at the time) at this event. We have a bunch of people who can reach out to the Japanese AH community as well as EXAMU for their support in securing a venue as well as promoting the event if we can get it nailed away.

But, of course, again, choice is up to you but it'd be great to get the large AH scene involved in this event too -- I know some of the US guys would be up for coming as well if AH was included.

I know it's a way's off now but please let me know what you think!

Sounds awesome. If I'm back in Japan by then I'll definitely have to make a trip to Tokyo.

I'm down, even though I'd probably have to take the poverty route and be there for the weekend only.

Traveling expenses are too high to justify going for just 1 weekend IMO, stretching it out to a full week doesn't make the overall expenses thaaaaaat much higher.

Nadakai is on the right track, JP community would definitely be willing to help set this up if you said you're bringing 20 players over for an event. I know the right people in the Japanese MB community who could help you with setting up a tournament at Game Center Mikado (ミカド) as well. I could talk to them when I go to Tokyo next month to see what you'd need. They're pretty good with stream setups. If you want a GG tournament that's the best place for sure. I'm pretty sure Mikado has the widest array of different games in Tokyo.

Run a Waseda-format team tournament IN Waseda~!

I'm really interested to this, but for me, depends of how I get brazilian visa to JP and US until then (there are flights where stops in US, so I must to get both)

From what I gather though I can't be sure since I normally don't do transfers but if you travel to Japan via USA. You only need a Japanese visa, too bad there is no Visa Exemption for Brazil but most countries get free visa to Japan so you don't have to apply if you have US/EU passport etc. As long as when you land in the USA you stay inside the airport you don't need a US visa to be at the airport, you then simply take a transfer flight in the US to Japan in which you will need a Japanese Visa to get through immigration at the Japanese Airport.

Interested in going, as long as I have some income by that point.

If you need/want help organizing/running stuff if I go I, I'd help.

I'll also echo everything that nadakai said about AH3. the jp AH3 community and EXAMU.

I'd be down for this. If it's in the summer it would line right up with my "I just finished school and am gonna go to Japan before I start working" time.

This is assuming I finish my thesis in two years

I don't see why this couldn't be a thing. At this point in time I'm not sure where it would be best to have an Arcana tournament (whether it be at the main event or an arcade), but I don't see why we can't branch out to other games as well such as Arcana and MB.

Everything is still up in the air at this point. Who knows what games will be out and which games people will still be playing. Who knows which games we'll have access to.

If there's one thing you should start doing for sure it's letting people know about this. Running a tournament in Japan for 5 traveling foreigners isn't really worth it IMO. We're going to need some numbers across the board for all the games we end up choosing. I won't lie, I think it would be pretty neat if we could get ATLUS, Arcsys, and EXAMU involved. But as I said, first thing's first: numbers.

Once again, everything is still up in the air.

Getting a few arcades involved would be cool. Going to a new arcade each night for a tournament would be pretty sick.

I'll keep everyone in mind that says they'd want to help, but just realize that in order for anyone to take this seriously outside the players we would need numbers first.

Interested, but life changing plans that have already been scheduled around April of 2015 may shit on my chances. We'll see. Thanks for putting the thought into this.

I will go to this as long as it's during my vacation time since I have school, I think it's a fantastic idea. I'll also try to drag some Singaporeans along. Going to the US for Evo is way too expensive for most of us, but Japan is doable since it's much closer and cheaper.

I hope this happens!

Yeah, I hear ya dude.

The first step is definitely generating interest -- we would need more than 5 heads for sure. I think with this much planning time, we could get most if not all of the more major AH3 players in the US to go in for the event/vacation time.

Communicating with the companies for support would be great, but realistically, if everything is getting set in stone down the road, we'd really only need to start coordinating with them perhaps 3-6 months in advance once we have something concrete.

I'll pass the idea around my avenues and see if I can't get some yays or nays from the US Arcana scene.

I'll be there. with the extra ballin' budget. zero fucks.

I'd probably go for a week or two...Thing is, I have a group of friends that are interested in going to comiket in summer 2015 so I'm really torn on who to go with at this point ;-;

Both would be a kick-ass experience, but still gotta decide.

And I'll be playing whatever Gundam VS game there will be at the time for sure.

TBH, if there was no big fighting game related event planned for that spring/summer I would consider trying to plan it close to Comiket or the farthest away from EVO that I can get.

The only really big drawback to this is: summers in Japan are brutal, and some would consider that an understatement.

As long as this isn't before May, I'd be able to go for sure. I'm graduating April 2015 and I'm thinking of going on a vacation afterwards, so perfect timing :)
