TD Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 daiwa is my favorite platinum, he is very knowledgeable and well rounded. he doesn't drop combos, something that can also be inconsistent with platinum. he has a few sets of him playing on yt.
Dreize Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 New top tiers please I'm tired of the same people getting the spotlight Well, valk can stay. Oh, do you mind explaining why you feel this way? I'm kinda curious.
Airk Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 I don't think its safe anymore in CP, wiki says -7. But it is the 3rd fastest normal grounded overhead in the game. It had quite a bit of actives, so from max range I think it could be +1, but anyway. Can actually go as high as +4, I believe; You've got 24 frames of blockstun, and only 20 frames of recovery, so if you hit with the absolute last active frame, 24-20=+4

NecroTheReaper Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 I know, but it went from point blank safety to spaced safety. Was +1 regardless, capable of +12. Sorta got the DS treatment.
TD Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Oh, do you mind explaining why you feel this way? I'm kinda curious. Hmm, let me put it this way. If I didn't like him he could go to hell for all I care. His treatment of Rachel has earned him a pass if you ask me. Plus my character can actually do well against him in neutral and in pressure, and I don't feel as bad losing once he gets a hit, because everyone in the game minus litchi kinda just dies once he gets in.
Rhannmah Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 His treatment of Rachel has earned him a pass if you ask me dude
FinalDoomGuy Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 If Plat could just naturally use all of her item moves with inputs she could be obnoxious or border on over powered. Her items can help improve some of her aspects in zoning / mixups / combo continuation but only a certain number of times depending on the item. If just some of her moves were a little better like her command grab to not be gimmicky and be a legitimate mix-up it would help her pressure with having to rely on a situational item. Her 6B seems lacking in some degree compared to other overheads, I know it is positive on block but either the range or speed of it hinders its use in pressure strings. I don't know any named Platinum players off the top of my head but watching good Platinum gameplay is exciting and often unique with use of items. Honestly, I don't understand why both her and arakune with his air clouds are random. I'd probably give her a go as a sub if her drive wasn't random, even if there was nerfs to compensate (and then you can go about giving some of her other stuff buffs).
NecroTheReaper Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 But imagine if she scored her first knockdown and just decided to keep getting hammer for your wakeup every time. She gets one good mixup attemt and you're screwed xD
someonewhodied Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Valk needs no 1st frame invul frames for wolfdash. Invul should be frames 4-12 or something like that. He shouldn't be able to bait distortions just by pressing backwards wolfdash when the distortion causes a freeze-frame. You should have to actually predict it before it happens.
D.R.F. Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Valk needs no 1st frame invul frames for wolfdash. Invul should be frames 4-8 or something like that. Stellarcircle5 Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 If you know he can bait it, why are you just throwing raw distortions at him? Catch him while he's in the middle of a move. It's a bit more complicated than you make it out to be, in no way does he have a "get out of distortion free" button. Although me just plain sucking is another possibility and I haven't been abusing the shit out of it.
D.R.F. Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 No valkenhayn I've seen does that anyway what am I freaking out about-___- Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk
BloodWolF Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 I agree with SWD in the frustration of having the dog pretty much touching you in a dash and then just backing out through your calamity sword for a free CH. "Catch him while he's in a move" is what we're basically doing. SEEing the move of 6F startup on a dog moving at high speeds is what leads us to the option of going for the DD when the dog is practically on top of us rather than looking for said flying 5a. There should be SOME danger to his decision, I would think. I know we could try to counter poke his dash if he's coming in, but just backdashing through a giant sword with a superflash as the go signal doesn't exactly require a hard read. That's the argument, I think.
NecroTheReaper Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 What's funny though is if you use a different DD than what they'd think. I've seen valk try to DD reversal bait just to get smacked in the face with an ignis orb punch. Does sword spam super not come in close enough to punish him tryin to dp bait? And even though it uses up a ton of resources, couldn't OD calamity sword catch him? Not sayin its necessarily viable, but an option
BloodWolF Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 The animations are a bit different for each DD, so I'm not sure if they'd fall for a Legacy Edge. The OD would have to be done early in their dash and it wouldn't be worth the burst even IF they fell for it unless it was a match closer. That's one of our only (baitable) reversals.
NecroTheReaper Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 It could -potentially- catch someone off guard every once in a while though. Relius' gear super looks nothing like either of the doll supers, but people try and bait them the same
FinalDoomGuy Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 But imagine if she scored her first knockdown and just decided to keep getting hammer for your wakeup every time. She gets one good mixup attemt and you're screwed xD There couldn't be a cooldown? You couldn't just have to switch to another item first and expend that before going back to the one you had before?
NecroTheReaper Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Then she could just do bomb/bullet/present oki>hammer anyway. It won't change that her rng drive which is filled with great tools would either be too good, or they'd have to bring down the usefulness of each item.
D.R.F. Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 If her normals were better this wouldn't be such a large problem Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk
NecroTheReaper Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Now that could be workable, but she has decent normals right now. Only thing I could think of is buffing 5B startup
AvariceX Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Since the thread is sort of on the subject of tiers and I haven't seen a lot of discussion on the matter elsewhere, just how tournament viable are the low tiers in this game? I've been playing Makoto since CS1 but only entered a few tournaments here and there along the way (I think probably one for each BB update), and she's obviously worse now but my impression of her is that she's not nearly the bottom-tier-garbage-can't-win character that I've seen a lot of people paint her as. Anyway, this isn't specifically about Makoto, just how far down can you go in the tiers and still be a tournament threat?
D.R.F. Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Idk a lot of her stuff is horribly negative and her max range is good, but compared to others its just less strong Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk

Granted it was the collusion thing, but he still got there. I am also pretty sure izayoi has won a couple and goro is a monster with makoto, who uses every good thing about her. So the game overall (other than koko and MAYBE amane) is pretty balanced and you can pick who yiu like and do decent Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk
