[Xrd] News & (Theoretical) Gameplay Discussion
SoWL replied to Shinjin's topic in Guilty Gear General
Last time I checked, the difference between two 3000 Yen cards and 300+80 HK$ is around 11$. Also, HK gets Elphelt for free. -
Finally figured out how to do that mission - you have to hold forward during the combo, only releasing it do do Bandit Revolver. And of course, it's not mentioned anywhere. At least now I can get to the challenges I can understand, like the Zato one Is the second Slayer challenge character-specific or something? I'm trying to complete it with Faust, and none of my pokes are fast enough to punish Mappa even on IB, and if I go for the specials, such as pogo, it tells me that I failed right after I hit him (probably because it's too slow?).

I'm not sure why I even got in this thread, since I don't even play SF, but those links are some of the most hilarious reads I've ever had. All-caps, "Aspie" and "Autism" buzzwords, white text on black background that makes you wish you could tear your eyes out, it's all there. If people like that criticize SF4, I can't help but want to try it out just to spite them.

B-but my trophies! -
Note that you can hold down 236P so you throw the item directly in front of you, right in 5D's range. Also, you can hit it without getting a home run, but you can still easily do it in two or three tries.
-
Yeah, I understand that the combo requires a specific timing, but how am I supposed to get it without ever seeing it? I constantly drop the Revolver, since Ky drops down way too fast for it to connect. Also, the recovery mission doesn't really get any easier even if you hold down a direction.

Please don't post direct links to 4chan, it deletes hosted files in less than a week. Better reupload it somewhere else so it doesn't get lost. Since I ended up posting here, I'd like to take a moment to say how much I appreciate Eddie becoming an actual character. I just love the contrast between Zato's lack of emotions and Eddie's sarcastic remarks (even during the actual fights!). If you have ever read the Bartimaeus books, that's the feeling I get here. Though since he can actually talk now, I'm not sure why they kept the monstrous grunts that he makes when you summon him. Maybe just so players don't have to get used to new audio cues? Oh, and I love that Faust says MUDAMUDAMUDAMUDA after winning against Zato. I think I don't have to explain why.

Now I'm stuck on the "Accurate Input" mission, mostly because there's no demonstration and I just have no idea what I'm supposed to do

Tested the silly baseball gimmick in the lab, and it seems to be a bit more straightforward than I thought. Basically, there are two ways to hit an item: a regular hit and a clean hit. On regular hit, you just reposition the item on the screen, retaining all its properties. On clean hit, you blow the item straight off the screen so you can throw another one right away. Also, if the item has a hitbox, it knocks the opponent down AND blows them back on clean hit. Note that this does not concern the bomb or the poison vial, as they create hitboxes, but don't have one, themselves. So basically, it only concerns the hammer, the weight and the mini-Faust. tl;dr: 1. Time your 5D wrong, and you either miss or just reposition the item. 2. Time your 5D right, and you can skip the item. If it's a hammer, a weight or a mini-Faust, it knocks down and blows back on hit.

Going back to this, I tried to wrap my head around it now that I have the game, and I kinda wish I didn't. "Lucy and Woof of Life Amusing" is a story about a girl getting a toy dog as a present, going crazy because it's way too creepy, being put in a hospital and burning it down in a fit of psychotic frenzy. Also, moths (who symbolize dreams and concealment). There might be some more subtle layers to the story, since the first half of it goes over a few different scenes pretty quickly, but it's disturbing enough as it is. Who would've thought that something like this could be just a background on one of many different stages in a fighting game. It's okay, I don't need to sleep, I got Xrd.

This is the mission that I'm having trouble with. Even if I set my pad to Turbo, it still misses the recovery window. Am I supposed to recover in a certain direction, or is the window really that small?

They teach you a drill cancel overhead combo AND a goddamn Jump Install. This game is un-freaking-believable.

That doesn't say much, you know. -
YRC opens a whole new world for him. Also, 6K is great, even if it's not an overhead. Oh, and he got Infernal Tour as his new IK name, which is amazing. Finally, all the Potemkin Bus Tour jokes are canon.
-
Ah, so it's about him being so flashy despite being a ninja? Okay, I can dig that.
-
Uhh, who's voicing JP That Man? Sugita again?

Time for random track title comments no one cares about! Junk Yard Dog - yeah, I like how it's a mirror of Ky's theme, and it's not like it doesn't fit the track itself. I mean, Sol is very easy to make a theme for, and all you have to do after that is pick a very Sol title. However, it's still not a Queen reference, so I can't help but feel a bit sad. Black Blank blah-blah-blah: Don't you even care about your theme's title? A drill. A human chair. Millia. A shark's jaws. Thought so. Engage - oh come on, the track is so much deeper than this. I could accept this title if it was fast-paced and a bit more militaristic (and heavy, of course, since it's still Potemkin), but it's slow, multi-layered and even lyrical to some point. Pretty much the only part of the track that fits is the intro, so too bad the rest of the track is quite different. Flash Hider - wait, is "Hider" even a word? What does it mean, that Chipp likes to hide stuff? Or that he can hide in a flash? Then it's quite fitting for him now that he's an aspiring politician. An Engrish title for a weeaboo's theme, how fitting. Destructive Goodwill - oh, I like this one a lot. Most people focus either on the crazy or the kind side of Faust's character, even though he's still got both of them in him. I mean, otherwise he couldn't be in a fighting game. This is one of those titles that make me appreciate the theme itself even more. A Slow Waker - no reference to March of the Wicked King, boo. I suppose it reflects Axl's laid-back side, though I'm not sure why Ishiwatari picked this particular way to do it. As it is, I could almost mistake it for a Bedman theme. Almost. Call Shot - eh, a bit cheap to pick a name based on the fighting style alone. At least the theme itself is a good fit for Venom and it has grown on me very quickly, so I can still live with this. Jack-a-Dandy - I just knew they're going to put "Dandy" into his theme title this time. While it's nothing as flashy as Slayer's last theme, you can still associate it with Halloween and vampires, which is something you couldn't really do before. And luckily, the track itself doesn't make you think of Halloween by itself, so it's not similar to Rachel's at all. Dirty Drive - yeah, this one's good, too. Not too obvious, fits I-No and the theme itself, and can even be read as an innuendo if you squint. My only gripe would be that it doesn't have any deeper meaning or character reflection, but you can't win them all. Diva of Despair - aha! I recognize that reference! Not too flashy or deep, but then again, neither is Ramlethal. Pretty much the only thing we know about her is her association with the other Valentine, so I can't really ask for more here. Just Do It - yep, it's a Sin theme alright. Who needs some deep meaning or complicated word combinations when you can just, uhh, do it. Marionette - groan, they really did throw Elphelt's entire aesthetics out of the window with this one. Yeah, sure, it fits her backstory and the track itself, but now the only way for me to make an association between the track and the character is to fight her a whole lot - and even then, I'm not going to feel happy about it. Reunion - pretty bland and predictable, but I'd like to point out that rather than focusing on the conflict between Sol and Ky, it is now about the bond between them. That reflects the change in their chemistry quite well, so I still like it. The Spider's Thread (Do You Know?): No, I don't. Well, you did before. When Life Comes - uhh, to an end? I like that it can be interpreted in so many ways, as it's the theme for four different characters, so it means something different for all of them. Bump - just like the theme itself, it's somewhere in between Fatal Duel and Nothing Out of the Ordinary. Thumbs up. Overall, there are some head-scratchers, but most of the themes got it pretty good in terms of names, I think.

It's like I'm (still) playing Bullet.

Everything You Need to Know About Guilty Gear Xrd
SoWL replied to Pichy's topic in Guilty Gear General
It's probably a part of some other word, since the first symbol denotes a long vowel, and the second one is just "Mu". -
Dreams are rarely rational, so even if it is relevant to Bedman's story, it's probably masked by a whole lot of imagery and random nightmarish stuff. My gut feeling tells me that it's just some other person's dream, as Bedman would rather watch nightmares of other people than his own.

FWIW, there's no Dizzy network avatar. Because gameplay is not the only deciding factor? And, you know, because "Anime fighter" is a stupid label?
