@Tager notes: I'm afraid I'm out of time to translate them today, so if anyone else wants to, go ahead. I'll take a stab at it tomorrow if no one else does by then.

[Xrd] News & (Theoretical) Gameplay Discussion
SoWL replied to Shinjin's topic in Guilty Gear General
Isn't Tsubu among the top players? He's the best Bedman around, after all. Or is that still not enough to compete with the likes of Ogawa? Okay, that much is obvious. What about, I dunno, Machabo? Also, it's not the matter of "should play", but "could play". If someone doesn't have the time or isn't masochistic enough to lose to stronger players for weeks, then they're much more likely to pick one of the many other fighting games on the market. Of course, if it was up to me, everyone would be playing GG, but I realize that not everyone can do that even if they want to. -
Dengeki Bunko FIGHTING CLIMAX IGNITION Gameplay Discussion Thread
SoWL replied to Setsuna's topic in Misc Fighter Central
Aww, Dokuro-chan doesn't hit both players after all. That's a shame, as that would've been a very obvious way of making her stand out. Some stuff from the article that might not be obvious from the video: - Dokuro falls down at a fixed distance of about 3-4 character lengths. - She throws Excalibolg slightly upwards, so it's easy to whiff against crouching opponents, but its start-up is fast enough to react to anything from full screen. - She has another hidden mode (activates Potential / actually does hit your own character? Or does that Potential cut-in not have any hidden meaning?). - Accel comes out even if Last Order is hit with a projectile. - His wave assist hits the whole screen and bounces the opponent off the ground AND the ceiling, so it can be tricky to follow up. - His palettes change Last Order's colors, too! - Izaya's counter works the same way as Accel's, except that you can follow it up with a combo. - The stomping assist simply knocks down the opponent, though its long animation makes it much easier to follow up. Not sure if it's a low, but the animation implies as much. -
[Xrd] News & (Theoretical) Gameplay Discussion

To be honest, that's the way I'm feeling about console Xrd as well. Yeah, sure, I'll play Faust and enjoy the hell out of it, but there are people who've been playing Faust since before I played Reload for the first time, and even more people who have lots of match-up experience against those Faust players. What are the chances of me doing any good? On the other hand, lots of people who've never played GG are interested in buying Xrd, so I can't agree with the "No newcomers at all" statement. No newcomers on the tournament level, maybe. And even then, I'm not sure people like Tsubu are GG veterans, but that's mostly because I've only been following the tournament scene since Xrd's arcade release, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. -
That's what they say, yes.

Not surprised by that cover change at all, not after what they did with BBCP LE. Don't care that much about it, either: if it makes more people pick the game up at the stores, awesome, but I'd have picked it up either way. -
What's the worst fighting game you've played?
SoWL replied to Verimeloni's topic in Misc Fighter Central
I remember having lots of fun with it, though I might be biased because I lost the CD rather quickly, so I spent more time looking for it and reminiscing about it than actually playing it. Maybe it's just that I'm a fan of transformations, and that game gives one to each and every playable character. -
5A: starter level increased? 5B > 2B gatling is now limited (5B > 2B > 5B > ×2B) 5D: wall-bounces in mid-screen on hit. Wall-splats in the corner. In OD can be followed up with B Sledge or Collider. More advantageous on block. 6A: makes the opponent slide down in front of you on air hit. 6B: now faster, but not an overhead. 6C: now ground-bounces on regular hit, too (SMP removed?). 2C: on normal hit blows the opponent back slightly. On counter-hit, the opponent flies forward. Can no longer be followed up with A Sledge because of the different blowback. 2D: travels greater distance, but difficult to combo from even on counter-hit. 4D: no longer wall-bounces in the corner. However, now wall-bounces on counter-hit. Does not blow back that far on normal hit. Can still be used as a combo ender. j.B: untech time reduced. Ground-bounces on counter-hit. j.D: seems to lead into new combos, as it doen't blow the opponent that far away. D moves: better combo proration. Also get guard point in OD. A, C Driver: better combo proration. Seems like you can no longer follow it up with 5B against Rachel. Seems to have better pull after Gadget RC. B Driver: launches the enemy Houtenjin-style. In mid-screen can be followed up with 5D (with magnetism) or Spark Bolt. Can be easily followed up in the corner. The proration is better, too. Also has shorter recovery on whiff. A Sledge: since the blowback is different now, you can no longer follow up 3C 236A 5A with an aerial combo. Wall-splats in the corner. Also seems to go through bursts. B Sledge: worse combo proration. Now easier to combo from thanks to the new blowback. This one seems to go through bursts, too. Hammer: hyper-armor against high and mid attacks. No longer ground-bounces, but simply knocks down. Can be followed up with 5B on counter-hit. This one goes through bursts, too. Collider: worse combo proration, the new blowback doesn't let you follow up with 6C or 2D. Can be followed up with 5D, Gadget or Spark Bolt. Gadget: better combo proration, easier to combo after Gadget RC. Spark Bolt: starter level decreased? MTW: no longer locks on? (As in, doesn't land the last hit if the opponent ends up behind Tager). Also, the opponent drops down to the ground much faster. Terra Break: now more difficult to land because of the MTW change. Wall-bounces in mid-screen. Wall-splats in the corner.

Well, again, there's j.D, though you can't follow it up with anything without meter. Good thing 2.0 changed that.
-
Yeah, you can simply press 4 (back) to cancel the stance (though you can't do it right after entering it). You can even use that to hover right over the opponent with Drive and buffer 720 into it (you press 4 during the spin, land, and throw them).

I feel that he has less English lines than most of the cast, actually. Just compare him to someone like Zato or Ky: GMW is pretty much his only English phrase. -
I couldn't even login around this Thursday, so I just downloaded the patch with no problems the next day.

EDIT: Just noticed that I didn't save some of the videos in my notes for some reason, but I don't remember which ones are missing, and it drives me nuts A-at least no one cares about 1.10 anymore, right? EDIT 2: I think I got it, though the video glitches out on me, so I might've missed the time stamps a little.

Rie is mostly pigeon-holed into tsunderes, she shows off some surprising range here and there. Check her out in Wixoss, Kyousougiga, or hell, even FMA. Her Koto voice might fit May, but there are probably better fits, yeah.
-
It's later than I expected, but at least we have a date now, even if no one is guaranteed to take part in that beta. At least I'll have Xrd to play until then.

Who? If you want people to understand what you're talking about, don't self-censor.

Oh bother. Now I gotta find someone to buy a Japanese copy for as a gift, taking all the bonuses for my troubles. -
Or rather, too little.

Wouldn't that trigger SMP? That's the first thing that came to my mind, but it feels like there are many more optimized ways to reach the same result.

[Xrd] News & (Theoretical) Gameplay Discussion
SoWL replied to Shinjin's topic in Guilty Gear General
Oh man, that's crazy fast. Now, am I impatient enough to buy the game twice in two weeks just so I can play it sooner? Probably not, so hey, money-saving! -
I'm not worried about that match-up, like, at all. Her gameplan is mostly the same as ours, except we're better at all aspects of it and even have some added perks in terms of zoning. [4]6A and Fragments should be more than enough to make her careful about throwing out random Thrusts, her mix-ups are very basic (and we can even Flash Kick her overhead on reaction easily), and her DP doesn't seem like it helps much against Fragment oki. Dunno, maybe I should play more scary Ories.

Six exclamation marks? Well jeez, even Pratchett didn't go that far. Gotta love gauntlet characters, though the rest of the design is a bit, uhh... The contrast between herself and her Arcana is pretty intriguing, at least.
-
Switching voice actors this late just so the cast has more well-known ones doesn't sound logical to me. It's not like the current cast does that bad of a job, not to mention that people are used to associating these characters with these voices. Even switching Eddie and Sol's voices still feels unnatural to me, but those at least have solid justifications. Now, what is there to gain from spending more money on more popular actors? Promotion? I think the fact that the game is goddamn Guilty Gear is the best promotion it can get. Better quality? Like I said, the current quality is good enough, there are better ways to make the game itself better. Nerd satisfaction that THIS character is voiced by THAT voice actor who's well-known from such and such? I already get that each time I see a GG actor in a different project. The fact that Venom voiced Space Dandy still blows my mind. So yeah, there's nothing wrong about mental exercises, but they're usually a waste of everyone's time, and this one is no exception.

[Xrd] News & (Theoretical) Gameplay Discussion
SoWL replied to Shinjin's topic in Guilty Gear General
It has been said multiple times that the only difference between PS3 and PS4 is the resolution (720p and 1080p, respectively). The people who played the PS3 version at TGS noticed no other differences. -
I mean, does it really take just one question to do that? If so, I feel like asking someone about the titles of Xrd songs, but there are too many of them, and I'm not sure who to ask (Ishiwatari? Pachi? Someone else?).
