  1. Oh good! So the 6A > 5C > 6BB > 236C > RESET! trick still works. That was one of my favorite gimmicks in Extend and for some reason I thought it didn't work in CP. For 236D stuff, I mostly just do Stuff > 236D > 5B(B) > 6A/3C/Bait (Depending on my meter and how my opponent likes to block/mash) Unfortunately, it's harder to tag 236D into a combo now depending on spacing, but it DOES work off of 5A as long as you didn't dink around doing 2BB or something. I mostly only go for this if A) I think I can kill them off the reset or B) I want the sideswitch anyway. Case B means it's way less obvious that you are trying for a reset since you want to put them in the corner anyway. Still not sure what Zaeris is talking about with regard to barrier blocking though. Doesn't seem relevant to the discussion at all.
  2. Yeah; Learning a character's combos doesn't make you any good with them. Only playing as them can do that.
  3. I'll do my best! My first opponent is Some Guy I've Never Heard Of, so there are at least reasonable odds that it'll be an even match.
  4. I think you are confused; The "fan tier list" to which I think you are referring was basically a list of "How hard is this character to use" not "How good is this character". And yes, Carl is going to be near the bottom if not at the bottom of that list, along with Rachel, Valk, and several other very good characters. I think you are confused.
  5. I think the rule of thumb is "As long as the person is familiar with the game, don't feel bad." These people are expected to know how the game works and how to figure out how to beat things, even if that means "Go to training mode later and figured it out." On the other hand, if it's someone who's all "I've never played a fighting game before!" or even "Yeah, I've played some Marvel and whatever - this looks cool but I've never played it" then IMHO this is the LAST thing you want to do, because you want them to leave feeling good about the game, even if you beat them, and just doing the same thing over and over to someone like that is going to make them unhappy and not want to play in the future.
  6. Puppy is super sad and miserable and we're not even sure what's wrong with her yet. Prayers are welcome. Evo, my only goal is to win my first match so I can get curbstomped by Dogura, who will be my 2nd match if I stay in Winners.
  7. I don't think I'm going to be able to make it this week; My dog is in the hospital, and I have to pack for travel to Evo on Thursday.
  8. 22D unblockable back plz. :P Actually, there's a lot of 'old' stuff I want back, but A/B/C specials aren't really one of them, unless they go back to CS1 style and do it right. (All B versions have projectile invulnerability!) But Daedron is right - plot has nothing to do with balance changes.
  9. Yeah, you should probably buffer it, but be wary of mashing 5C - you might cause the game to buffer the 5C instead of the dash.
  10. You'll need to wait until the end of the 4B animation - or very close to it. BB keeps a buffer of a few frames (see the Advanced Input section HERE) so you can do it a tiny bit early. But mostly, I'm afraid it's going to take a lot of practice. Rachel is not easy, execution-wise, IIRC.
  11. Which general area are you in, so folks know if they're likely to have a decent connection to you?
  12. Well, there are a few characters whose reversals you can 'bait' with a meaty 5A/2A (depending on your character); The classic example is Jin's 623C - it starts up slowly enough that if you do a meaty 2A, and he blocks on wakeup, he'll block your 2A and you can do pressure, and if he does 623C, you'll recover from your 2A in time to block the DP and punish. This works on a few other reversals (it works on Litchi's DP, but the timing is tricky depending on the exact stats of your jabs). Also, it's important to remember that in general you'll lose less getting hit by a reversal than your opponent will for you baiting one, so get up there and attack them on their wakeup to force them to use that DP!
  13. Thanks for the pointers; I'd been thinking along the lines of 'It's super negative, I'll just do 6C...no, that got me hit, how about 3C, no, that got me hit, WTF?" Seems like you can pretty reliably just punish with 5C>6C (5C may clash though, which could theoretically let him do something else?) and the 22D FC definitely works. I need so much more time with this game.
  14. WTF do I do to punish his stupid ground laser if I bait it? It seems like everything I try just hits the stupid laser since it's still going for 90% of the duration of the move, and I'm terrible at figuring out when it's going to end so I can actually attack.
  15. Spending lots of time airborne can be a good way to survive the cat hammer. Thanks for the tip on how to beat her stupid counter. I had serious problems with it the other day, and couldn't figure out how to get more than a basic midscreen throw off baiting it. The 2A trick (seems like 5A should work equally well) is priceless since it seems like you should be able to do 2A > Block > 6C >STUFFFFF. Not sure how you'd time a 22D to hit her during recovery though. x.x
  16. I will be at Evo; My ONE goal is to win my first match against some nameless dude so that I can go on to get curbstomped by Dogura. It's not quite a Woolie moment, but it's pretty close.
  17. Comcast, actually, but it's getting increasingly likely that I'm going to call them and complain anyway.
  18. NAT type 2 confirmed, no system updates available. =/
  19. My life is still sad; Go practice. Do practice stuff. Get kicked off PSN halfway through because ????. Reconnect when done practicing. Find a player match room. Join. Wait for the current match to end...get kicked off PSN. Turn off PS3. Seriously, anyone got any advice here? I've tried port forwarding and static IP, and it made zero difference. Restarted router and cablemodem, no difference. It didn't used to do this, but lately, I get kicked off PSN like every 15 minutes.
  20. Yeah, that whole list seems super sketchy to me. Carl S? Mu and Hakumen not A? Makoto B? Divorced from reality S+!
  21. You are making my rage at PSN seem mild by comparison.
  22. "Cool" is not the same as "not salty" Like Tsubaki, we are crying on the inside.
  23. Well, unless someone else is providing a setup, I guess I won't be showing. =/
  24. So all Tsubaki players ever, really?
  25. Being forced to move to PSN has made me realize how much of a lie it is when people say the two services are equivalent. :P
