Tangentially, how do you use training mode to get used to using frame traps to call out mashing? I mean, I can record the training dummy doing a bunch of 5As, but it's not easy for me to push the 'playback' button in the middle of my blockstring to make him start without screwing up the timing of the string itself. Am I stuck just recording some "whitespace" at the beginning and hoping I time it right where he starts to mash before I get to my frame trap? How do other people do this?
-
Sure; You have to play me first, and then my slow cogitating processes have to identify what we're even talking about. I don't think it's impossible for you to cover an entire -26 frames with stein fire without leaving a 7 frame gap somewhere, but WTF do I know, since Mu is one of those characters where frame data is necessarily incomplete. ("How long is a stein shot active for? Who the F knows!") But it seems like it would require a bizarre amount of setup, making this less of a "LoLz, you can't punish my DP!" and more of an "in this precise circumstance, I can use a DP as part of my pressure" - which is really not all THAT different from say, Relius, doing stuff like Id Lauger and in the hopes that you'll try to punish and get punched in the face by Ignis. Anyway, I suspect very strongly that some characters can beat the setup using specific and possibly unlikely to be "natural" options, because that's how these games work. I mean, people figured out punish combos for Kokonoe's stupid super ball reversal.

It's easy enough for me to bring an extra fightstick, but someone needs to have a setup first. :P -

Okay; Let's see if we can head this one off at the pass here. Is anyone going to be there, this Tuesday, 8/5/2014, with a setup for Blazblue? -
There's even a specific canned message for "go easy on me." if I remember right, even ignoring "Let's take it easy and have some fun."

Most people don't even know that Tao HAS random items.
-
Yes, yes I did. He was my FIRST MATCH. (It was supposed to be some nameless dude who didn't even have a handle, but he was so nameless that he didn't show up so I got a bye and went straight to Dogura. Ooof. Though actually I think I did better against him than anyone else I saw butt heads with him in pools.) There's not much reason to be afraid of Tsubaki because her options at neutral are such garbage. =/ Chzchan - I think the 4D and 6D idea is pretty cool and interesting. I could totally get behind that.
-
You can't do that on wakeup or pressure situations though, because you'd get hit out of the stein placement. That's more of a 'respect me at neutral, you punk!' maneuver. Also, the solution to this is to throw as your punish, because you can't get hit out of a throw.
-
Random proposal for discussion: What would the effect on balance be if we started the match with two charges? With five?
-
Exactly; I don't think there even WAS anything wrong with Mu's DP even prior to the change ("Oh no! I can't safejump one character's DP for free! Hlep, Arc Sys, plz remove this character differentiation!"). The problem still IS the fact that she has some stein placements that are extremely difficult to thread through. THAT needs to be addressed. The DP is fine.

I don't charge very much, overall, but sometimes I get greedy and get punished for it. The big problem with the charge system is that Arc Sys doesn't seem able to decide if charging should be hard or easy and adjust the reward accordingly. They seem to have this confused "Well, you NEED to have charge to do real damage...but charging should be hard... but we're going to give you new ways to do it... but your charge specials can't be too good!" attitude where we get the short straw in several areas. As far as I am concerned, right now, charge is basically a handicap - "You need charge to do real damage and have decent neutral tools!"; The small handful of other cast members who have a finite resource A) Get that resource "for free" over time and B) Get a bigger payoff than we do for using it. At least one of three things needs to happen: Charging needs to get significantly easier. (Faster rates from charge cancel, less/no recovery on charge moves, command grab less awful, whatever.) Our functionality with no charge needs to improve (better chargeless damage. I don't really favor this choice because it reduces the uniqueness of the character) Charging needs to have a bigger payoff (Better damage from multiple charge combos, charge moves more effective in neutral) Honestly, I prefer choice #3. People should be thinking "Oh crap, I can't let her get too many charges or I'm in trouble!" - I'm not interested in going to some generic "Oh, well, you do a combo and then your next combo is better because you got some charge." model - that's basically what Bullet and Azrael already do. And similarly, if you just buff up our chargeless game, you're reducing the uniqueness of the mechanic. If you're going to build a character with a meter that needs to be manually charged up, it should be a sort of "Not especially scary until they've managed to build up some power, at which point they become VERY SCARY" mechanic. They sortof did this with Izayoi, but both the mechanics of getting "charge" and the way it changes her game are both so radically different from Tsubaki that the "overlap" here is actually good, since it's basically just thematic.

Huzzah! I shall honor my healthy puppy with the return of Hype Dog. -
The only "zoning" character in this game with a DP is Mu though, and I don't think she's SUPPOSED to be a 'zoning' character. The fact that she has some super annoying stein cycles is probably more of a mistake than giving her a DP.

My pet peeve: Fighting gamers who don't know how to communicate. And no, believe me: Most people can barely do A>B>C(>D)>Special with most of the cast. Not everyone HAS subs. So all your complaint comes down to is 'I wish my opponents would get better faster'. I'm sure people have only been holding back on getting better to annoy you.
-
Usually the rule of thumb for combos is "If the move comes out but didn't combo, do it sooner, if the move doesn't come out at all, you did it too early."
-
Amen! And yah. The reason Extend was so poorly received is that it was the OPPOSITE of a discount. It was $40, and even if you had bought all of the new characters at $7 a pop, including Relius, who was never for sale that way, you'd still only have spent $28. And every character you'd already shown your support for Ark Sys by buying reduced the value of Extend. It was a terrible, terrible way to sell a game. Edit: It's not a terrible way to get NEW people to buy the game, because $40 for everything is better than $30 or whatever plus $7*X DLC characters, but this has to be an OPTION, not a requirement.

So... someone should stop trying to get experience on their main so they can "counter pick" you with a character they barely know how to use? Hello, some people don't have time to try to learn the entire cast; If they're losing with their main, they'd REALLY LOSE if they picked someone else. We're sorry you're bored and feeling unchallenged, maybe you should go hang out with your pink square friends or something. :P

I wouldn't get your hopes up too much about Mugen/Install; They already "benefit" from Overdrive in that they last longer while in it, so I'd be a little surprised to discover they do anything more there. If they do though, Tsubaki OD+Install Combos are going to be epic.

Which pack do I need to buy to get Hype Dog stage? x.x -
Yeah; And something I'm discovering is that breaks don't necessarily need to be super long; 30 minutes seems to be enough to break up my mental deadlocks and let me get going again.

Soooo is anyone bringing a setup? -
Short answer: Yes, training mode. Longer answer: one of the things about DPing out of blockstrings is that it's not JUST doing the motion correctly. It's doing the motion correctly at exactly the right time. You can't just DP whenever and expect results, because if you're still in blockstun when you mash it out, you'll get nothing and then you'll probably get hit because you probably won't get the stick back to 'block' before the next attack lands. So it's best to train not only doing DPs, but WHEN to do DPs against specific strings. All that said, I have the same issue with my DPs. Sometimes I can get them reliably under pressure, other times it's like "LOLz, I just did wakeup 6C!"

Welcome! There are a number of people on this forum from various parts of Europe, so hopefully you can find a couple with decent connections to you! In fact, I summon Daedron. Daedron. Daedron. Daedron. For lo, he too is somewhere in the Netherlands. :P

Pretty much all of it can be disrespected if you have a DP. :P
