[AC] May Tactical Discussion/Questions/Help
Frank The Tank replied to RisingStars's topic in Archive
This is kinda random, I know, but I feel like we need to get at least a little bit of discussion goin on here, so here's my opinions on the matchups for our adorable little sky pirate. May's number is listed first. ABA- 4.5-5.5 Anji- 6-4 Axl- 5-5 Baiken- 5-5 Bridget- 6-4 Chipp- 5.5-4.5 Dizzy- 6-4 Eddie- 5-5 Faust- 5.5-4.5 I-no- 6.5-3.5 Jam- 4-6 Johnny- 5-5 Ky- 4-6 Millia- 4.5-5.5 HOS- 5-5 Pot- 4.5-5.5 Robo- 4-6 Slayer- 5-5 Sol- 5.5-4.5 Testament- 4-6 Venom- 5-5 Zappa- 4-6 What does everyone think? Let's talk about GG for fuck's sake. -
Well then you've got options, because as long as you can block, nobody fits this description. If you CAN'T block, then everyone fits this description. Just watch high-level vids of the characters you're interested in so you can see what the characters do when played at their best. Whichever one you like watching the most should be the one that you choose. Also, know that it's gonna be a while before whoever you play looks like they do in vids, and be patient.

I'm fairly sure that without a yoyo in play your fastest TK starship is something like 632963P or 6321473P. It looks wierd, but it works. That's right, May players all up in yo thredz!!!!1111

Guilty Gear FAQ Thread - Ask your questions here!

Robo's gatling is 5K-5P, iirc. Pretty important. -
Everyone talking about how FRCs aren't "interactive" or aren't affected by both players is displaying a huge lack of understanding as to how they impact the way that the game works. That and what qwerty said. Man the fuck up or go play BB.
-
For such a potentially powerful technique to exist, it needs to be somewhat difficult to do. The stuff that FRCs let you get away with make it necessary for them to be hard to do. You start making things that are that powerful easy to accomplish and you end up with SF4. I practice FRCs by replicating the situations in which I want to do them; this compensates for the differences in timing you get sometimes. It depends on the FRC tho. The fact is that you have to practice to get good at FRCs, combos, pressure, etc...but once you learn how to do them initially, you don't need to practice them nearly as often. Practice isn't for fun; it's for making the game more fun.

Another thing people need to know is that it's necessary to pressure ABA with jump cancelable shit. If you do this, then you can jc and FD when you see that she's swingin her key through your moves. If you're icy you can still SB the 2nd hit and get a good punish regardless of who you play.
-
Just got around to watching these. A few things; -Fighting Millia flat out sucks; that's one of my least favorite matchups right now, but the fact that you hit her and she dies gives you a rather large amount of hope. Be more patient, and try to avoid jumping on her at random as she has awesome AA for you that leads to the worst situation in the game; you in the corner on the ground vs. Millia. -you did random whales sometimes; plz don't do that. That move is for reactionary punishes in certain situations against certain moves (like slidehead). May is far too dependent on meter to be wasting it on stuff like that, especially when FBHSVD is one of your only good approaches in that match. It's for that reason that I don't like to Dead Angle without full tension vs. her even though it's sooooooo tempting; you can see most of her mixup as long as you pay attention. -Your ground game is really important, and even moreso vs. characters that can AA you easily. Millia has a hard time with properly spaced 5K/5H poking. Abuse it, and nab that 5H CH for a bunch of damage.

Sup Anji players, I'm snowed in and bored so I'm inexplicably on your forum. Hooray internets. One simple, yet effective followup to shitsu that I didn't see listed was simply runup, 2P>2K>further mixup. Zidane uses this one quite a bit. It's especially good for people that reflexively burst once they block a butterfly, as the string is burst safe. If they block it, then all the better; the +6 from the 2K combined with the butterfly blockstun assures you will be able to do basically whatever you want while they're forced to stare at it, whether that's stomp shenanigans, IAD j.D which-way stuff, or 3S cancel guard crank.

EVO 2010 Caesar's Palace, July 9-11th VEGAS BABY!
Frank The Tank replied to 10stars's topic in Archive
Agreed. Just thinking about learning how to play Marvel makes my hands and eyes hurt. I don't know for sure if I'm going to EVO this year, but I've flown to Vegas for a side tournament once already; may as well make it twice. -

This does not apply to EX Slayer. -
I have so many problems with the posts in this thread that I don't even know where to begin addressing them. TL;DR- Those articles are gold, especially for new players in any game, even GG. Footsies aren't restricted to the ground game, but they still exist on both the ground (think Jam 2S CH fishing) and in the air (You know that air move I do that all of you HATE? It's 100% your fault when you get killed by it, and that's footsies in action). Footsies are how you get counter hits, period. Take a good SF player, give him Potemkin and show him some shit, and he'll beat well over 50% of the people on this forum. Don't believe me? Justin Wong placed 3rd in GGAC at NEC in 2008. Why? Cause he knows how to play fighting games.

If you look at the various opinions of top players(which, in case it hasn't been said enough, are all matchup charts/tier lists are made up of anyways), they generally differ quite a bit. This makes a comprehensive matchup chart pretty impossible to make without causing an assortment of arguments. Just as an example, I personally think that Robo is a horrible matchup for May, but I only know of one Robo player in this country that agrees with me (JackG, coincidentally the best Robo in this country). Hell, the vast majority of the players in this country think that May is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than she actually is. EDIT FOR MSONG: Two Robos.

You're better off learning how to play your crappy matchups with your main. It will make you a better player in the long run, along with making you much less vulnerable to counter-picking.
-
How many times are you gonna be around an AC cabinet for it to matter? It didn't take me long to adjust the one time I was around the arcade version.
-
It really isn't.

guilty gear, not loved by critics?

When you have good games, and are given shitty games, and everyone drops all the good games to play the garbage, then there isn't really much to be thankful for. -

As he said already, the only reason Flash entered teams is because I asked him to. Same with Marn, although it appears he isn't getting any shit, prolly cuz he didn't beat anybody. -
AC because there are no useless characters. I don't think you guys remember just how BAD Slash RoboKy was. I think he just exploded cuz I was talking about him.
-
Doren gets 9th at tourneys he doesn't go to. Amazing.
-
It's not going to grow quickly, no. But be assured that there are new players out there that know that there's something more to the trash that is BB/SF4, and if they see it then they'll try it. We just have to keep playing so that GG is there to see.
