Middle Tennessee Needs Gaming! Monthly Versus Tourneys - Antioch, TN

@Jackie: ??? @Klein: I don't know about safe pressure, seeing as I did notice a lot of the holes in people's pressure getting punished properly. Plus, wouldn't having full-screen normals mean your neutral game would have to be even stronger? -

I don't think long combos are anything to worry about in Under-Night. From watching that Linne video, it was kind of implied that the combo itself wasn't optimal at all. From what i've seen, everyone does really good amounts of damage and it all seems to be scaled appropriately. The system mechanics themselves also seem pretty well balanced too. I like how you're rewarded for being agressive, but it isn't like Gear where if you don't get that offensive set up, you die in like two combos (That little red meter thing). This game just looks amazing altogether. Definitely dropping everything for this game (if, and i'm praying really hard on this, that it gets a console release). I'm hoping that they're saving Hilda as a console-exclusive boss that they'll patch into the arcade builds later. -

Sorry Midnight. I tried to get the best Aegis in America to join, but he's dodging me for Tales of Vesperia. I feel so slighted. -

I can't even comment on this anymore. It's not even worth it. -

If you know the counter-assault is coming, why not simply All-Out Attack? It eats counter-assaults, most DPs, throws, and pokes. If they roll they aren't in a position where they can punish your All-Out Attack for much (depending on what character you are). As for Aki's mix-up game, I can't say much about it without meter, but he does have really strong DP and roll-safe pressure, if you're fundamentally sound. He easily is able to lock someone down just as effectively as Chie. Edit: Leaving this little bit here and then i'm done with this conversation. On reaction to Chie's Meteors, you can run up and roll through them. No matter where she is on screen. On reaction to Aki's Zio, you have to block, no matter what. -

Again, you aren't getting what i'm saying. You aren't using the moves to establish "safe mix-up". You're using the moves to get next to your opponent. In that regard, Akihiko's Zio works better. If a chie throws out meteors, you have the option to jump them, roll them, or get hit by them. If you jump block them, you negate her mix-up. If you roll them, depending on where you are when they come out, you can get out of the situation safe. With Aki's Zio, no matter where you are on screen, you get hit. If you roll, you get hit (no matter where you are on screen and now you're paralyzed), if you try to jump, Aki gets in for free and now you're forced to block him. -

I'm not talking about wether the move is good or not, i'm talking about the fact THAT HE HAS THE MOVE!! HE HAS THE MOVE!!! Yes, it does carry risk, like a proper rushdown character should, as you've stated Naimat. What i'm trying to point out is that, in terms of tools to get in, Akihiko has what Chie lacks and they both have about the same tools once they're in. My god people are making this hard. -

But Chie doesn't have Kill rush, that's what i'm getting at. She has to rely on running and jumping to get in, as to where Akihiko has A MOVE that throws him at the opponent swinging his fists! You can sweep someone who's running in the same way you can sweep someone mis-using Kill rush. She has no moves that cover space in such a quick amount of time. Yeah, he has to spend more meter, but the fact of the matter is, if he uses it with 100 meter, he gets in for free. Which is the purpose. Not to get a hit, or to gain anything other than favorable positioning. There are ways to work around Chie's meteors because they don't cover the entire screen. With Akihiko's full-screen super, you HAVE to block and let him get in. -

Akihiko has a fullscreen super as well even though they both have to be in awakening. She has normals with slightly better reach but nothing that puts her too far ahead of Akihiko. What she doesn't have is a command move that can shoot her full-screen like Akihiko's kill-rush. Honestly, i'd say Akihiko is more of a rush-down character than Chie. His pressure if you ask me is on par with Chie's minus Chie's retarded oki. Edit: I see what you mean. I just feel that we shouldn't establish teams based on characters now that i'm starting to process and break things down. -

Actually, thinking about it now, what we need is people based on their player skill, not the characters themselves. Top 5 anyone? -

Surpised the list wasn't: Me/Mitsuru - Neutral game w/anti-zoning tools character (Little to no bad match-ups) Bishop/Chie - Rushdown character with amazing Oki ???/Yosuke (we have like 3 of them?) - Neutral game character with Anti-zoning tools and strong mix-up Woz/Shadow Labrys - Rushdown/puppet character with strong mix-up (Not many people know how to fight her) Volpe/Elizabeth (because we have no Naoto or Yukihoe players) - Zoning/grappler with scary mind-games and damage Edit: Yup, because the reason Akihiko has anti-zoning tools that don't work that well and no range is because he's not a rushdown character. I'd leave Teddie as a neutral game character due to his various items and spacing tools. Edit again: Okay, before we try to put these characters into classes, can we first establish what all of these classes are? I swear there's like a dozen of them. -

Been searching all over the web for some kind of confirmation for a release day stream for Under-Night, or at least some footage, no luck though. Probably going to hear something by tomorrow since the tourney takes place Saturday...GAH! MY HYPE! -

I never responded to the combo video idea due to the fact that i'm not all that interested in combo videos in P4U. I'd much rather make a tutorial video than a combo one or something. I do have some combos I can contribute, but again, i'm not all that interested. Plus, since Woz has come up with a few Mitsuru combos already, i'm sure he'd have that covered. I'd really like to make a tutorial video one day though. -

My house is always open for people to get matches. Just let me know how many people are showing up ahead of time so I can get ample amounts of space ready for people. I felt bad for trying to cramp everyone into my small room. Using the living room from now on. Throwing a possible Thanksgiving event if interest is generated. Bunch of home-made soul food and video games. Let me know how this sounds to everyone. -

Shout-outs: Jackie- Good job making it to grand Finals. I'm glad I was the one to knock you out of the money though and I hope to do so again at King of Bling XD. I definitely need those vids to watch again so I can analyze and download where I made mistakes and improve on them. Your style, while unorthodox, turned out to be very effective. Chris Brown- My new-found Mitsuru brother. I look forward to getting to fight you and help your Mitsuru along in getting better. Volpe- Should've gotten more sleep boy. Can't play mind games if your mind isn't present, now can ya? Really surprised I wasn't up against you in grand Finals, but I suppose you'll be on the ball next time around. I find it funny how in this tournament's case there was complete role reversal. I wasn't feeling confident the few days before tournament and was expecting to get second or third, but ended up winning it all. Boomcube- Had a very fun set against you man. Looking forward to fighting you more and glad a few of my tips ended up helping you in the match-up. Naimat- At least you made it out to watch grand Finals, though having you in tournament would've been much better. Hopefully your schedule will clear up allowing you to participate in King of Bling, it'd be sad not to see you there. Wish we could've gotten some matches in back at my place but watching you fight Volpe and Tad was enough I guess. Tad- Dude, screw weddings. No matter how many e-mail invitations they sent you you should've been at this tournament throwing chairs at people. The mirror matches we had were fun and we definitely need to have more in the future. Midnight- GO DAI! Papstr- It was fun commentating with you man. With our disdain for Chandler combined, our hatred shall know no bounds! Dax- It was cool meeting you man. Glad you came out and I hope you continue to do so. I'm sorry to hear about the fact that you didn't know about an existing BlazBlue scene in Middle Tennessee all this time. Really would've liked to play you in that. Bishop and your crew- WHY YOU NO SHOW UP?!?!! KingofBling- Going to be mad hype and I look forward to competing in both Singles and the State v. State matches. If I missed anyone, look to the stars. P.S. Glad I was much more solid than I was giving myself credit for, or something. -

Still don't know how I feel about myself and this game yet. So much I find fraudulent, yet there's so much potential for growth if the fraudulence wasn't there. Idk, hopefully something will change. In other news, fighting this really strong Labrys player (who didn't just roll their face on the controller) has gotten me kind of hype for this tournament. Even got some technology to show off so look forward to that. @TTT2: Saw Jun, saw Feng (or whatever his name is), i'm picking TTT2 up. -

@Volpe: Actually, most of the BB players who are playing haven't called the game "trash" as you're making it out as. They do have a few issues with the game though. I myself have only run into a few players who call it that, but they aern't really the most fundamentally-sound players so you have to take them with a grain of salt. As for me, I think I mentioned it day 1 but there is a LOT of character-specific stuff that annoys me in the game. That backed with the fact that I can't tell if i'm improving or not gets frustrating to deal with most of the time. Idk, the game is weird. I think I just need to mash 5A more or something. -

@Milln: Oh god, don't do this to me Milln. I just wrote that because this instrumental I was listening to made me feel all poetic-like. I don't really see and hear too many people up and leaving their games often though, but I haven't really been exposed to other scenes that much so you may be seeing something i'm not. Either ways, P4A is big enough as to where even if a few players leave it'll still be afloat. It's not like like BB where losing one player means losing 1/17 of the game itself. So if people leave, just let them go. Idk, that's all I could come up with as a solution. Talk to you guys tomorrow. Off to sleep so I can get up early to job hunt and possibly try to come to terms with my feelings for fighting games right now. -

That moment when you get completely and utterly destroyed by a much better Mitsuru player than yourself...AND ENJOYED EVERY GOD DAMNED SECOND OF IT! Ah, this warm and fuzzy feeling. Edit: Are my thoughts the Katrina of my soul? Is this ship I sail doomed to never hit shore? These questions are all meaningless if I refuse to look into the water's surface and ackowledge what is reflected there. So now, what will I do? Will I deny me? Will I shun me? Or will I embrace that which is both veiled in light and darkness? Am I at war with myself? If so, how much longer am I going to keep attacking? If I can answer these questions, i'll be fine. I'll have the answers I sought for so long then. -

I wish, I got nowhere near completing it. It saddens me to this day Volpe has been trying so hard, lol. I invited him to a room and he replied "Fuck playing this 7-3 match-up, off to make some PSR off people". That grinding man. I like how I can't get anything more than 721 PSR because everyone with high PSR doesn't play ranked anymore
