  1. I guess I wasn't specific enough, I'll remedy that in future posts. My original post was a question, and I'll admit that what followed it was critical of perceived errors in their play-style, but I intended for that criticism to in turn be picked apart for its own errors. I was aware of the fallings of theory-craft throughout, I was just attempting to promote discussion. If I was told I was wrong through a complete break down of my posts, I would not mind at all, as it was the main reason I made them in the first place.
  2. I MEANT GOOD PLAYERS, JACKIE. (<3) Because I was pointing out that I want to know why they don't. Is there some sort of house rule where they just don't utilize certain tactics? Are they unaware of those tactics? Are those tactics even fully applicable? I came in pointing out my point of view and then questioning the things I perceived so that I could check my information against someone else who might have some insight. I figured it would go without saying that this tactic was the stuff of theory-craft and should be treated as such.
  3. I understand that coming from a spectator's perspective my input isn't solid, but my purpose is not to judge; it's to learn their thought process and/or possible limits to my character, and there seems to be little in the way of me understanding the factors at play here. I've already thought out a few possibilities, and they don't seem like plausible reasons to reject a potentially valid tactic. I'm not going to jump into theory-craft here, since it's rather irrelevant without more information, but from what is available to me I'm not seeing any drawbacks. Even if it is punishable, there's still going to be various ways to use it to enhance your mind games and get your opponent sweating. I'm also going to be discussing this with people who actually can get their hands on Elizabeth, and in three days plan on figuring all of this out for myself. I was originally questioning why Japanese players seemed to gimp themselves, because I'm certain this isn't the only time it's appeared to happen. I've heard of players outright refusing to use certain valid tactics simply because that's how they play, and it seems to be an oddly prevalent mindset.
  4. Yes, Kurushii showed us it was possible in the challenge mode videos. So now I just scratch my head every time I watch an Elizabeth throw their Thanatos away for nothing, again and again.
  5. Well, take Elizebeth. She can apply some serious pressure or move around for whatever kind of spacing she desires while Thanatos locks the opponent down. Instead, I see Japanese Elizabeth's just stand there while they throw Thanatos out constantly and sacrifice hits for conditioning, but then never take advantage of that conditioning. I've yet to see an Elizabeth set up Thanatos to get hit then punish their opponent for it, even though it's easily possible.
  6. Why does Japan respect so much stuff? It seems to me that some options characters have are being neglected for no apparent reason. Do they have some kind of aversion to pushing the meta in a certain direction?
  7. I'm getting the Fire Emblem 3DS bundle when it comes out, shit looks sexy. That, OoT, and MM are the main reasons I need one. I could've gone without the Zelda remakes, but once I heard about Awakening it was destined. And yeah, P4U is still Atlus's IP story-wise. Makes sense that it'd have a solid plot. And seeing as P4U's launch reportedly left SSIV, AE, Tekken 6, and MvC3's first week sales in the dust, I'd say it's safe to get hype.
  8. If anyone deserves to take my money like that, it's IS.
  9. OMFG, FIRE EMBLEM AWAKENING. WHY HAVE I NOT LEARNED OF THIS UNTIL TODAY? Badass DLC Roy? Check. Badass DLC Lyn? Check. Badass DLC Ephraim? Check! Derp DLC Ike? Ohfuckingwellcheck. MY BODY IS READY. OH GOD HECTOR IS FREE DLC FROM SPOTPASS FAFMSGFDHDFKSGJKFGAMGFDSGJKDFSJGKSHMFGFSH
  10. I can't wait to see how it does. Yeah, it's an animu fighter, but it's probably got the best shot out of any of them. As for the people assuming it's going to be piss-easy, you can't forget that this is still an ASW game. Japan is looked at in awe for a reason; they make EVERYTHING look easy. ONE MO' WEEK.
  11. Oh snap. Does your insurance cover that?
  12. That's funny. I hear the same thing about Dustloop, SRK, and practically every other fighter oriented domain.
  13. Mayonaka Midnight is setting up a netplay P4U tournament for both consoles. It's the weekend after release, and the organizer is setting up 1st-3rd place prizes out of his own pocket. Get to it! http://mayonakamidnight.com/showthread.php?1006-Mayonaka-Midnight-Opening-Grand-Prix
  14. Milln and Jackie, apparently. Speaking of which, I still need to finish watching the KoF Grand Finals. Shit's been too hectic to sit through 48 minutes of KoF lately.
  15. He edited his post. EDIT: And I edited yours, because I fucking can.
  16. How is Batman's face so manly yet beardless?
  17. Yeah, I know. That's why I added that disclaimer; obviously the dust hasn't completely settled. But I've also read first-hand accounts of this second man leaving a wedge in the door or otherwise finding some way of keeping it open. Supposedly he either was an accomplice who then left, or one man who opened the door, left, and came back in through the door he left open in all his riot gear. This situation is a lot different, though. I'd put more stock into the police calling in their reports of evidence than random panicking reporters covering a natural disaster.
  18. The accounts differ on its status as red/orange, but honestly that's irrelevant. What matters is that he's emulating a sociopathic villain, was working with someone even worse than himself, and from what I'm reading was on his way to getting a PHD in neuroscience. This man was obviously intelligent, yet even he ended up becoming this "Joker's" chump. It could easily be a simple matter of two college kids emulating their fucked up hero and making plans to do some damage. I'm not denying that. I'm just saying there's a lot of dark cesspools where people with sick interests can gather - I wouldn't be surprised if this accomplice ended up manipulating others into continuing his symbolic rampage.
  19. No one's debating his mental problems, but it doesn't necessarily make him retarded -- he's clearly drawing inspiration from the Joker. If you'd paid attention to my post, you'd realize that there are multiple established personas of The Joker with orange hair, and though it's not an uncommon tactic, Joker having someone specifically make use of his identity and commit crimes so that he could spread chaos while still remaining free was one of his standbys. By most accounts the crime was intelligently planned and executed, and I'm guessing the man in custody was likely an easily manipulated person with mental issues. The events were broken down from police scanner transmissions, and the whole thing is on reddit. 1:49: Car, Tennesee plates, Hyundai, license [redacted]. third to west, in front of doors. Possible bomb. Main entrances of mall covered. Bomb squad moving in. 1:53: Canine units coordinating at SE entrance between JC Penney's and the food court. May be a bomb in there. Theory that bombs may be in front of theater. 1:55: New evidence for shooters. That's plural. Theater 8, the shooter was seated. One more was outside, went into Theater 9. Coordinated attack. Two shooters. Open door discovered at mall. Suspicion of bomb in there. 1:56: One shooter at large, one in custody. From Facebook: Someone set off some little party poppers in our theatre, next thing I know someone runs in and said there was a shooting. We huddled down into the seats because people were outside the exit. I was fortunate enough to get home safely with my sister but a few friends are still stuck there. 1:57: Due to bombs, police relocating all units to S of Dillard's. Open door was in Macy's. EDIT: Found the link. http://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/wv4q2/someone_came_into_our_theater_at_the_midnight/c5gq9c0 As this is a recent event, the particulars will likely be muddled for some time, but it shouldn't take the hive-mind too long to sort out the facts.
  20. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_JrMAg7gZ5FQ/TMBu6NTMLUI/AAAAAAAAAVE/FViUzerocEY/s320/66L0001_lg_6_Cesar-Romero-as-The-Joker.jpg He either got it from the one with orange hair in the comics, or the 1960s version. If one were to obsessively follow the Joker and study his various incarnations, who knows what kind of shit they'd want to achieve in his name. That's all I'm sayin'. Edit: There were apparently two shooters, and it seems like the armored vehicle was just a rumor. One's in custody and one's at large.
  21. That's the thing. He apparently had a massive armored vehicle that could carry a lot of people, and used it just to drive himself. Who says he's the only one on a Joker trip? When the end goal is to emulate a psychopath, I doubt any sort of plan made would revolve around the perpetrator going free.
  22. I just hope he's a regular copycat and doesn't actually have Joker level plans.
